Position on Topic: (1) Points ________________ Yes, I feel that as long as the nurse participates in a program that includes requirements of regular attendance at support group meetings, personal and active involvement with a 12-step sponsor, and close contact with a case manager or monitor of an alternative program, she should be allowed to return to work.

In studying Registered Nursing one will find that they have to be compassionate and want to care for others. Registered Nurses assist physicians with suffering patients of any medical condition. They help to decide the patient’s medicine, treatment, recovery, and educate the them and their families on post-medical treatment. They need to have bedside manner, and be able to prepare patients for surgery. Registered Nursing careers range anywhere from critical care, oncology, mental health, to an everyday school nurse.

Role of the Advanced Practice Nurse The role of the advanced practice nurse is very diverse. There are four roles that I am going to discuss in this paper and they are as follows, Nursing Informatics (NI), Nurse Educator, Nurse Administrator, and Nurse Practitioner (NP). According to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Nursing Informatics is defined as a specialty that combines nursing with multiple information management and analytical science.

Health care is a term that describes a broad range of services. Members of a health care team range from family members to neurosurgeons, but each member of a patient’s health care team plays a critical role in optimizing patient care. Therefore, it is important to recognize and appreciate all the players in the medical field and their contributions to health care. I was drawn to the medical field because of my love of science and endless curiosity. However, it was not until high school that I narrowed my science passion down to human science.

The Indiana State Board of Nursing (2011) defines advanced practice nursing as a registered nurse who has attained advanced knowledge and skills through an organized program of study. The three categories of study include nurse practitioner, certified nurse mid-wife, or clinical nurse specialist. National certification is not required for nurse practitioners completing an accredited graduate program. However, if the continuing education is part of a certificate program then a national certification is required. Although certification is not required in Indiana, Riley Hospital for Children nurse practitioners are required to certify within one year of employment.

As nurses, we continue to gain knowledge and skills within our area of practice. We use theories to help us build concepts or ideas in gathering information, explaining relationships and demonstrating experiences of development. Theories vary in their level of abstraction and scope. Nursing theories are beneficial in helping us to understand, organize our thoughts and influence practice and research. Nursing theory has three distinct types to describe the level of abstraction:

The term six research theory course, NURS 495, emphasized the importance of nurse leadership and how nurses can influence positive changes in health care delivery to patients with chronic illness. It also explored the contradictions that exist in nursing practice and encouraged the students to develop a critical and pragmatic approach to client care. The co-requisite clinical course, NURS 499, integrated nursing theory and current best practice on an acute care nursing unit at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. In this consolidated learning analysis, I will explore a nursing practice event that will illustrate the major issues surrounding the treatment of competing mental health comorbidities in a patient with hoarding behaviors.

‘’When person, and the interests of a person should be at the centre of all relationships. People and where appropriate their carers, must be recognized as partners in the planning of services which should be integrated and based on collaborative working across all sectors’’ (Health, Social Services and Public Safety) Multi-agency working involved a number of professionals from different medical services all working together to provide the best holistic care for the individuals using the health and social care services. Multi-agency working within the health and social care setting is very important for both the professionals and the patients because it can provide an overall quick and accurate procedure of care.

The goal is to improve the health and safety of patient while also providing care in a cost-effective manner to improve the outcome for both the patient and the health care system at large. According to Melyn and Fineout-overholt(2005)Evidence-based practice should be a problem-solving approach to clinical practice that integrates a systematic search for critical appraisal of the most relevant evidence to answer a burning clinical question.

What does nursing mean to me? Nursing means helping people heal, meeting their needs while they are in your care, listening to concerns, protecting them from harm, and educating them how to care for themselves while treating them with dignity, compassion and respect and giving of yourself to the care of people and community. It is having compassion for people and their health and being a humanitarian, making sure they receive the best care possible. Nurses must also treat families of patients with kindness, realizing they are going through a stressful situation also. Nursing is a responsibility to provide the best care regardless of the patient’s age, race, religion, sex, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or their past.

According to Patterson & Krouse (2015), It is important to transfer the message in a good way, for that the communication skills is one of the most important basic skills of nursing leadership. More than that, communication in nursing can make their job efficiently and help them to communicate with a wide range of people, including the patient, patient 's family, and healthcare providers. However, unlike bad communication, which increases nursing staff problem and can lead to worsening the patient health condition, a good communication saves time and reduces the problem of nursing staff in resaving and deliver the right information. Furthermore, communication is not only talking with the patient it’s also listening to what the patient 's family and healthcare providers are saying to collect more information that helps the nurses to save lives. In this paper, I will reflect my communication that goes well with one patient.

Nursing Theorists and their Theory 1.Florence Nightingale- Nightingale’s theory of the Environment is mainly focused on the environment, she believed that, the environment has a great importance that can be used to improve and encourage healing. With proper ventilation, clean air, lack of noise , proper lighting, and adequate elimination of waste. Are a few factors she believed and can be observed and maintained. 2.Sister Calista Roy- Roy’s Theory is based on, in which the individual views biopsychosocial being, in which a person adapt with the constant change of the environment.

When I think about nursing I think about what our actions and interventions as nurses, and how we utilize our nursing skills. Basically, the foundation of nursing simplified is what do nurses do? Nurses play a major role in health care. We must have an understanding that our idea of healthy and our patients are usually very different. Nurses must explore ways to address the idea of wellness with each patient, and that is done by education and assessments.
