Curfews can help children or hurt them. From begining to end in The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is about two social classes that are battling over land and power. The main group, Greasers are always getting in trouble and are poor. Throughout the artical “Are Public Curfews Fair” two people who think getting curfews in communitys are nessasry and unnessisary are arguing over whos statement is better. In awarness to people thinking that there should not be a curfew in the outsiders community, Parents and Police think differnently. In many cases teens are motivated to commit crimes, but in others they dont have much of a choice. Some indevisuals belive that curfews wont stop teens from violating the law. "Yeah." His voice quavered slightly. "I had to. They were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you. And they had a blade... they were gonna beat me up....” In this case the curfew would have stopped the crime from even starting. All of the children would have been taken home by police so no one would have been hurt. “From 1995 to 1999, the number of minors arrested for violent crimes dropped 23%. Experts credit public curfews for the drop in crime.” Because of the pblic curfews around the …show more content…
“Its up to parents to choose a curfew.” Annually, some parents dont know when to make their childs curfew. They want to limit their kids time in the outside world, but dont want to limit them to much. Once a child hits the teen years they think their parents ae cluless and can not help them anymore. “Were you, Ponyboy?"--- his voice was rising--- "Where in the almighty universe were you?" Pony, like alot of other teens did not listen to his father when he set a time for him to get home. A public curfew can reasure the parents and authoritys that everone is home safe and

This source shows that the brain does not fully develop until the mid twenties, causing irrational decisions. It also shows how peer pressure plays a big part in teenagers decisions. It also states that teens tend to commit crimes in groups. It also states that if someone can’t make rational decisions, they should not be held to the law as a regular
Darry hits Ponyboy as a form of punishment, causing him to run away, shows this. According to the article, some activities such as drinking, fighting, and smoking may lead to juvenile delinquency. (page one, paragraph five) Similarly, S. E. Hinton states, “ ‘He [Dally] went hunting some action –booze or dames or a fight. I hope he doesn’t get jailed again.
In many towns, communities, countries, curfews could leave many teens without the right they deserve. Many communities think that curfews are a necessity, but there are more reasons why they should go. In the book Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, would curfews have helped the Outsiders along the pages, or not? According to many people state that curfews do not violate teens' rights.
By the age of 14, most teens are expected to know what they want to commit them selves to make a living. If kids are given that much responsibility and such a young age, then why can't they comprehend the consequences of violent crimes such as armed robbery and murder? The answer is that they can. While most teenagers won't be able to tell you the maximum sentence for aggravated assault, they will be able to tell you that you spend year’s prison. Most teenagers and kids know that the consequences of violent crimes are severe.”
The author’s of these sources have similar opinions on the subject of later start times for high schoolers. The author of source one, Michelle Trudeau, believes high schoolers should have later start times, and focuses on the benefits of this. The author of source two, Dan Weissman, also believes that high schoolers should have later start times, but chooses to focus on how changing school start times will be difficult in some school districts and communities. In source one, Michelle Trudeau writes about how changing school start times to later in the morning will benefit students.
It stated reasons of why school start times should be pushed back and it also stated reasons why it should not be pushed back. The reasons of why it should have outweighed the reasons of why it should not have. The main reason why it was said school start time should be later is because as teens they stay up later and while they are in school they are tired and sleep through class all year. More sleep could lessen depression, make grades become higher, makes the students have better focus, and prevent sleeping in class. In the article it was said that "Over time, sleep deprivation leads to serious consequences for academic achievement, social behavior, and the health and safety of our nation 's youth.
The alteration of the school schedule would also decrease productivity in students of all ages. It is exceedingly difficult for teenagers to focus for eight hours at a time, let alone ten. Dr. Iroise Dumontheil, author of research regarding the development of students, declared that it was not due to lack of motivation that students have trouble focusing in school. She stated, “it’s not the fault of teenagers that they can’t concentrate… Adolescents simply don’t have the same mental capacities as an adult” (A. Hill 2010). Accordingly, by asking students to remain in classes for an extra two hours a day, school systems are requesting more devotion from teenagers who cannot focus for lengthy periods of time due to their developing brains.
(Hinton 54.) This evidence shows that ponyboys are worried and uneasy about the thought of running away from the law. This is because they cannot see many people, will always be moving, and have police after them. This relates to the theme of violence having consequences because it shows one of the issues that it can create for your life. Another time, ponyboy was affected by violence when ponyboy wakes up and thinks about what his normal routine is like.
This doesn’t mean adolescents can’t make rational decisions, but it does mean that they are more likely to act impulsively. Juvenile offenders should not be tried as adults because they lack the ability to fully comprehend their actions, and this process of conviction does not encourage adolescents to become functional members of society.
Juvenile crime increased 13 percent nationwide, because of not having curfews. Multiple court cases have taken on the subject of teen curfews with varying results. In the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, the subject would curfews have helped or would not have helped the greasers. The Outsiders is a novel, that tells the story of the Curtis brother’s life. They are part of the Greaser Gang, and don’t have curfews.
So, they can improve the odds of adolescents getting sufficient sleep so they can thrive both physically and academically. I agree with this source, starting schools later could enhance student’s school performance academically and athletically. Starting school too early are preventing many teenagers from getting the sleep they need to start off their day. I aim to using this this source to support my claim as to why students need more sleep and how it would affect them throughout the school day. This will benefit my essay by forward explaining why school should start later in the morning and why doing this will be better for the students’
Similarly, trying teens as adults will hold them accountable for their actions which will reduce the crime
The idea of having a curfew is ridiculous because many teenagers have a set time they have to be from their parents. First of all, teens are most likely not going to follow all of the rules. There are also some things that certain teens will not do with or without a specific rule
