But his face set and his hand steadied, he pulled the trigger” (Steinbeck 106). The opposing side claim euthanasia is wrong and rather than mercy kill, take pain relievers and go to doctors. The opposing side is incorrect and euthanasia should be a legal option for a hospital patient to decide not the government. Taking medicine every day to relieve pain would be terrible due the fact that the person has to take the medicine multiple times a day and too much medicine can actually cause more health problems euthanasia is a great option and be a decision for the patient Goodman states in his article “We all have better chance of dying slowly while connected to half dozen tubes in the hospital ICU” (Goodman). Euthanasia prevents suffering something medical help can't completely stop also medical help stretches out the pain so you can live longer but it comes with so much pain and
One reason George should not have killed Lennie is because Lennie did not know what he was doing to Curley’s wife. Steinbeck writes, “… and he shook her; and her body flopped like a fish” (91). Lennie was trying to calm her down to make her stop
Once Curley finds out about his wife's death he angerly promises the guys that he's going to kill Lennie, saying, "I'm gonna get him. I'm going for my shotgun. I'll kill the big son-of-a-bitch myself. I'll shoot 'im in the guts"(Steinbeck 96). If George wouldn't have stepped in, Curley was going to make sure Lennie died as painfully as possible for the death of his wife.
The death of Curley’s wife and the death of Lennie. The death of Candy’s dog was very long and exaggerated. The killing of the old dog was brought up by Carlson because Carlson thought the dog smelled terrible. Carlson said to Candy, “Well, I can’t stand him [Candy’s dog] in here.” (Steinbeck 44).
The book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, is a tale set during the Great Depression, which is both heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time. It teaches lessons about the importance of dreams, friends, and the need for sacrifice. In doing so, it includes several examples of euthanasia or in other words, mercy killing. At one point in the story, George is forced to kill his good friend Lennie which has been a good companion to him for many years. Although George clearly loves the man, he should euthanize him so he doesn’t have to suffer through what Curley might do to him and so he doesn’t have to deal with the discrimination he gets from other men like Curley.
Sometimes the right thing to do is to kill another individual under proper circumstances. John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men is an excellent example of euthanasia. The story takes place in Soledad, California during the Great Depression and many people such as the characters in this book work as mobile farmers on different ranches. George, Lennie’s only friend and caretaker makes the right decision and shoots Lennie to prevent him from suffering, being harmed, and killed much more severely by Curley, the boss’ son and an evil character in Steinbeck’s novel. If George had not killed Lennie mercifully, Curley would have come through the brush a minute later and shot Lennie in the guts, which is one of the most tortuous, painful, and bloody deaths one can have.
In Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, there are two main characters George and Lennie. The problem in the book is that Lennie acts as a child inside a giant man's body which causes lots of problems throughout the story, and George acts as Lennie's caretaker and he tries to keep Lennie out of trouble. Euthanasia is the practice of intentionally ending a life to relieve pain and suffering. Euthanasia is used when a person cannot make a decision or cannot make their wishes known. For example a person who is in a coma or is too young (like a baby) cannot make a decision to end their life.
On page 43, George states his love and care for Lennie, though Lennie does not obey George after taking the dog out of the barn when it should be sleeping, “Awright. You get him back there quick, and don’ you take him out no more. ”Throughout all of this, George is patient with Lennie and sees Lennie “jes like a kid” that needs to be taken care of and rebuked. Later in the story, Lennie kills Curley’s Wife and George tells Curley not to kill Lennie because George believes Lennie did not know what he was doing through the phrases “Don’t shoot ‘im” and “He di’n’t know what he was doing. ”These phrases were used support two important ideas: George is willing to belittle his friend in order to save him from punishment, which reveals his love for Lennie, and they also establish the idea that George would not punish Lennie if he had found him after this event because of his profound love for his companion.
Humans are a genuinely perplexing and baffling species. Someone may glance at a person and think they may be incredible, but associate with them and one may discover the person is atrocious. In the book Of Mice and Men, Curley is approached as the calamity of the ranch. He is analyzed as a racist, mean, and sexist man.
Euthanasia has a strong presence in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, “also called mercy killing the act of putting to death painlessly or allowing to die, as by withholding extreme medical measures, a person or animal suffering from an incurable, especially a painful, disease or condition”(Dictionary.com). In the book there is a pattern of killing for selfish reasons, the people and animals are killed for the good of someone else which is almost the opposite of euthanasia. The euthanasia of Slim’s puppies was a sudden occurrence, most people do not usually drown their dog’s puppies. This killing was more for the benefit of his dog and himself than for the puppies.
Although many believe that mercy killing is wrong or unjust, Mercy killing, also knows as euthansiss is and a moral way to show empathy and compassion to a loved one in need. For example, In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. George, one of the main characters in the novel, killed his best friend Lennie because he thought that killing him was the best for him. Lennie is “a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, and pale eyes” who acts and thinks like a child who doesn't know right from wrong.

Curley insults Lennie without even knowing what Lennie was laughing about.
Many books possess an evil character, a villain, however the villain normally helps to improve the story and create a depth to the plot. In the work Of Mice and Men, the author John Steinbeck uses the character Curley to show that violence is never the answer. When introduced to anyone new, Curley has to threaten them, because he needs to showcase his role of leadership in the group. However if he showed them kindness instead, people wouldn’t see him as an angry person. For example, Candy warns George to distance himself from Curley, because he has a nasty temper and loves beating up big guys because he is not big.
