Simi Gupta Carrington 7B Writing 8 March 2023 How Native Americans Suffered DBQ To start off, the Spanish conquistadors such as Hernan Cortes and Francisco Pizzaro conquered the Aztec Empire, while the Europeans took over the Native Americans land. The Europeans tortured the Native Americans in many different ways such as bring sickness into their country, starving them to death by taking their food and eating it, and lastly human torture and abuse.

The relationships between the three major settlers and the Native Americans differed in many ways. All the evidence needed is in the seven documents shown. Each of the documents provides insight to one of the three nationalities. It is fair to assume that the English were focused more on friendship, the Spanish set their eyes on the gold, and the French were insistent on converting the Native Americans to Christianity. Though they may have been cruel to their enemies, the natives were very kind and friendly towards the English colonizers, as stated in Document One.

The Declaration of Independence During the 1760s, the relationship between the United Kingdom American colonizers showed some serious problems. In 1775, the battle of Lexington and Concord had become the flash point for this conflict. The independent War of the United States happened. At first, most population of the colonizers supported to negotiate with the British Government.

Americans decided to fight for their independence in 1776 because they were being treated unjustly by Great Britain. To begin, the British passed hefty taxes in the thirteen colonies to help pay off their war debt. First, colonists were brought into British conflicts. After

“Give me liberty or give me death!” This well-known slash from Patrick Henry against British taxation forced upon American colonies is a great example of one of many reasons that sparked the passion to write the declaration. British rule diminished American colonist’s political, economic, and religious freedoms. Many hesitated to support independence because they feared the power of Britain but were soon convinced that something had to give. The colonists were convinced through the words of the famous Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson.

However, this was not evident to most at the time, as a very large British military and naval force remained in North America. Few American historical accounts place the Yorktown Campaign in context of the larger war for American independence. The war was not confined to the American continent. The impact of the Yorktown victory is best understood in the context of the broader war between the English and the French. The concurrent global aspects of the military confrontations facing England must be recognized to place the implications of the Yorktown defeat in context of why American independence was officially won with the Peace Treaty of 1783.

I thought it was interesting how far the diseases had spread and how greatly it impacted the native Americans as a society. It was interesting how the diseases spread farther then the Europeans had even gone, through being spread from native to native. Personally, the illustrations used in the video to demonstrate the spread of the diseases was quite informative and entertaining, and helped clearly show how they spread. I also thought it was fascinating that when they landed at Plymouth, they used the ghost towns left by civilizations who had died out from the diseases; and that many civilizations that shared the same fate were lost to

In 1775, right after the battles, the colonies were at war with Britain. Some Americans thought that King George Ⅲshould still be their rulers, but most thought that they it was worth fighting for independence. Many people gave speeches and wrote documents or pamphlets to express their thinking. For example, Patrick Henry, from Virginia, gave a speech and said, “Give me liberty or give me death!”

It,s obvious that they were fighting for their personal intentions. Separating from Great Britain meant, not selling imported good any more from England and the colonists would have to continue to obtain their smuggled goods. In other words their motto was “Let sleeping dogs lie”. Those men that accepted to fight against the british empire, were convinced by lies and prejudice.

In 1492 a man named Christopher Columbus was given the opportunity to find a new way to the kingdom of spice, India. He was given three boats by the Spanish king to sail west instead of east to get to India. Once he arrived although he thought he was in India he had actually arrived in the Caribbean. After this discovery of a new world to the west, many European countries set out to conquer this new land. This new world was inhabited by natives, and once the natives met the Europeans it was downhill.

I’d like to start off with the question “What explains cultural differences among Native American groups before the European Conquest?” Of course there could be many different cultural differences among the Native American groups, I would like to talk about a few I have learned from this course so far. To begin, the people of America began somewhere between 15,000-20,000 years ago. For example, as stated on page three of the American Stories, the Paleo-Indians were the first migrants from Asia to reach the North American continent around 20,000 years ago.

However, due to the population increase in Europe, the European migrated to America in seek of land for farming, settlement, and spread their religion (Desai, n.p). The end of the fifteenth century is attributed as the time period in which Christopher Colombus “discovered” the Americas. Although he was allegedly the first European to have reached these unknown lands at the time, many sought to reach the new world, for a variety of reasons. Most of those people could be divided in two: the settlers and the conquerors. In North America, there were more of the former, people looking for a new home where they could rebuild their families and lives. In Meso-America, however, the goal was to exploit the lands in order to produce and extract new goods which they could trade.
