DBQ European Exploration From 1400 to 1700 C.E. the Europeans began explorations into the new world and made settlements in the Americas. The explorers included Columbus, Magellan, and Cortez, and they are known in this era also known as the Age of Exploration. One of the European countries to first explore was Spain; however, the Spanish were not, one would say, good house guests. The Spanish saw the natives as inferior and In need of Christianity. The settlers mistreated the natives even though the laws back in Spain declared justice in dealing with the natives.
Christopher Columbus determination to find a water route west from Europe to Asia influenced the Age of Exploration greatly. Especially King Henry VII who was eager to increase wealth for Europe. King Henry VII sent Columbus to discover a water route west from Europe to Asia. He also in 1496, issued letters patent to Cabot and his son, which authorized them to make a voyage of discovery and to return with goods for sale on the English market. He also encouraged Cabot’s second voyage.
The age from 1450 – 1750 are categorized as the age of exploration where several European countries embarked on expeditions to create colonies in the New World. Portugal and Spain were the first countries to establish colonies in the New World, while England was the latest in obtaining colonies because of religious disunity and lack of financial capital. However, due to joint-stock companies, English citizens had a chance of settling in the New World or in the Americas for the reason of getting wealthy or the reason of escaping religious persecution. Salutary neglect left joint-stock companies to finance the trips of these new colonists.
Why you Don’t Need to be Smart to Get Good Grades Sophomore year, AP U.S. History. My class was writing a Document Based Question (DBQ) over Christopher Columbus and the Age of Exploration. (A document based question is an essay where you use factual evidence given in the form of documents to write an essay). I knew nothing! My mind was blanker than the vacuum of space itself.
Benjamin Franklin said, “No nation was ever ruined by trade.” During the early modern era, technological advancements in shipbuilding and increased knowledge on wind and current patterns made global trading possible. The increased flow of trade in the 1300s through 1800s created important social relations and economic opportunities due to the increased integration of foreign people and desire to be wealthiest and most powerful, while improving government, culture, and ideas in the modern world. Global trading increased the spread of people, which also increased the spread of religion and culture.
Within the context of the period 1474-1598 to what extent did Ferdinand and Isabella lay the foundations for a Spanish ‘golden age’ in the 16th Century? Within the period of 1474 and 1598, it can be argued that Ferdinand and Isabella did lay significant foundations for a Spanish ‘golden age’ in the 16th Century, through their political, religious and economic policies, such as the sponsorship of the voyages of discovery. These may have in turn created stability and security, which could have formed the foundations for a golden age. A golden age is considered to be a flourishing period in the history of a nation and whether a time like this actually occurred in Spain in the 16th Century has been widely speculated. This is because whether the
The Age of Exploration occurred from 1400 to 1700 C.E. It is famously known as the Age of Exploration because it was a time when explorers from Europe travelled by sea to explore west of them, and make many geographical advances. Exploration was motivated by gold, glory, and God. Along with their motivation, the Europeans also wanted to find trading partners, new goods, new trade routes, and simply find new land. With exploration, there were many good effects and many bad ones.
Fourteenth Centaury Europe was a terrible place to live. The foundations of European Civilization were undermined because of the Black Death, the peasant revolts across Europe, and the Hundred Years War. The Black Death was caused by a multitude of different reasons. The Black Death spread to Europe through trade in the Mediterranean, the Huns, and a more centralized Europe. The Black Death spread so quickly overpopulation of cities.
During the Dark Ages, the European continent was in ruins. There were multiple wars going around the continent by different tribes who were trying to take total control of the land. The people living in that time period did not have a chance to obtain knowledge or live in a peaceful society. Things were about to change very soon because the light was going to shine onto Europe. The Frankish kingdom was going to be ruled by the 1st powerful king of all of European history.
The Age of Exploration, starting from the 15th century and lasting until the beginning of the 17th century, was a period of time in which the Europeans explored the Americas and Africa while searching for a more efficient trade route with Asia. However, the Europeans did not just discover this lands, but also made use of them and the native population. The first cause of the Age of Exploration was “God” which resulted in an expansion of Christianity.
During the Age of Exploration many countries started to explore more and expand. The Maritime Revolution changed countries in identical and different ways. Countries had their similarities and differences. In 1492, Spanish crown assigned Christopher Columbus to set sail and search for the New World. It was a major success for Spain during the time; however, it was not an easy success because Columbus thought that the path to asia is a short path, It was not though. Luckily, the trade went well with the New World, which later brings a major change to European lives. But to think back, why Europeans did not cross the Atlantic Ocean until the year of 1492? There is an answer to that.
The late middle ages was a time of both crisis and recovery. In the 1300s, the Europeans had faced both black death and famine. The mass starvation had caused many deaths, especially for peasants. However, not only were peasants going through a crisis during that time, when the black death occurred, no one was safe. The rich were affected as much as the poor with the black death.
The culture in Western Europe was affected negatively by The Dark Ages. Education was not a priority and the the church worried that people would begin to question their beliefs the more people were educated. So, the rulers took away all education in belief that it would help, but “It was not until the end of the Middle Ages that the rulers began to realize that without education they would just continue to make the same mistakes over and over again and would never reach peace for their society” (Newman, Culture). People suffered from lack of education all throughout the Middle Ages, until it was finally brought back towards the end of this time period. Culture and society were controlled greatly by the church.
The chapter in history from which I have derived my 3D project’s subject is the Age of Exploration. The Age of Exploration began during the fifteenth century and faded into the Scientific Revolution in the seventeenth century. During this time, many countries began exploring the world in search of wealth and the finer things in life, such as: silk, perfume, spices, precious minerals (or gold), furs, and land. Other reasons for exploration were fame and to spread Christianity to indigenous people. While trying to do the right thing and save other’s souls, Europeans attempted to save the souls of various indigenous tribes, and by save I mean they enslaved, raped, and slaughtered many of them in the name of their Christian God.
