In Tangled Routes, Deborah Barndt analyzes not only the physical routes food takes, in this case tomatoes, but the affects that the globalization of the food industry has had on the global economy, consumers, workers, and the crops themselves. Change is happening all over the food industry–the nature of crops, the way in which consumers view food, the gender division in workers–so much so that the fundamental way we view and discuss food has to change as well.
