Montana 1948 Analysis Everyone has made an important decision in their life time, and those decisions will always be for good or bad. After a decision is made, no one can change the results of it or even blame someone for anything, that’s why it's important to think before making any decision. By thinking before taking any action that can change the outcome of the decision being made. The novel Montana 1948 is a novel based on decisions. The main character in the novel is David Hayden. Decisions is one of the main topic in the novel. Wes Hayden had to make many decisions regarding his brother Frank. Making decisions is when oneself grows to become a better person in life. This world has made many changes , from the 90's up to this day everything is distinctive. I've seen many documentaries on people traveling around the world trying to make a change in the environment. That is part of making decisions. Deciding whether to stand up and go make a change or leaving the world the way it is. Wes stated the following quote "David , I believe that in this world people must pay for their crimes. It doesn’t matter who you are or who your relations are; if you do wrong, you pay. I believe that. I have to"(Watson, pg. 156). This quote is talking about how Wesley wanted to make a decision on the crime that frank made. …show more content…
Gail Hayden started saying the following words. "The reason, Wesley, the reason Marie didn’t want to be examined by Frank is that he- he has. . . is that your brother has molested Indian girls" ( Watson, pg. 45). We see how Gail was nervous because maybe Wesley wouldn’t believe her because he wouldn't want to believe his brother actually would do that, and he wouldn’t be able to do anything to his own
When a person sees another person suffering it may cause them pain. This constitutes their powerful system of empathy, which hints their thinking that they should do something to relieve the suffering of others. If they cannot help another, or fail in his/her efforts they might experience feelings of guilt. Humans make mistakes and many of them go down a path in their lives that can make them feel guilty later on when they finally recognize their mistake. This is evident in Paul D’Angelo’s self-narrative short story The Step Not Taken, when he the protagonist fails to help a man labeled as “typical junior executive” (D’Angelo) which leads to an epiphany of guilt and shows his true identity.
Wes was the sheriff, and he has a duty to apprehend the guilty even if it’s his only brother. His wife knew he was wrong. She fired back, “It can’t be undone” (85). She knew what Wes has to do, he has to arrest his brother because he is guilty. It was apparent that Wes knew Frank is guilty and was not going to make an arrest because they were family.
I'm sure Gail was terrified and knew she had to act fast or she could face some serious consequences. Montana 1948 Demonstrates that the actions of others can affect you indirectly. Family is suppose the love each other and support one another in the most difficult times. In the case of the Hayden family these conditions don’t apply and because of their decisions they were torn apart. The are certainly one of many who can be affected by a member of their family but in the end they must choose the option that will only protect their
Bowie's approach is based on a "moral point of view that requires an individual to do the right thing, even if it is not in one's perceived best interest". (Bowie 2013, 32)
“You are free to make whatever choice you want, but you are not free from the consequences of the choice.”-Ezra Taft Benson. This quote by Benson relates to the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor. The characters in the novel don’t make good life choices and in the end, they pay for the mistake. Paul Fisher’s parents make bad decisions with treating their two sons.
An Unfolding of Robert Hayden’s “Names” Throughout the history of Black culture in America, poet Robert Hayden represented Black history explaining and illustrating it through his poetic works. Although it is one of Hayden’s lesser known works, Names, is an extremely powerful poem that takes the reader on a journey of the trials and tribulations of slave life in America. “Once they were sticks and stones I feared I would break my bones,” provides a concise opening line as Hayden utilizes this idiom to relate the situation of the speaker to something that the reader can relate to. Hayden continues in the first stanza to explain a situation in which slaves feared “Four Eyes,” meaning a slave owner.

In a flawed society not telling the truth can influence an individual's responsibility
Honestly what is loyalty? One can’t even begin to define such a word. It’s one single seven letter word yet, it has a deep profound definition. Typically one does not use loyalty until they are put to the test. The test can be anything, like staying loyal to the patriots or staying loyal to your best friend.
In “The Moral Logic of Survivor Guilt” by Nancy Sherman, one has done no wrong, but still has guilt, even in situations that are unexpected, as this happens way too much, and that those who have done wrongdoing should be feeling guilty. She states, “We often take responsibility in a way that goes beyond what we can reasonably be held responsible for. And we feel the guilt that comes with that sense of responsibility. Nietzsche is the modern philosopher who well understood this phenomenon: “Das schlechte Gewissen,” (literally, “bad conscience”)-his term for the consciousness of guilt where one has done no wrong, doesn’t grow in the soil where we would most expect it, he argued, such as in prisons where there are actually “guilty” parties who should feel remorse for wrongdoing”(Sherman 154). Illustrating, this proves that we take the responsibility for actions that we did not do, and should not feel any remorse, but that the people who have done wrongdoing, should have this feeling of guilt.
