Dental Hygienist Experience

Leslie has taken the children away from home without informing them or anyone else. Leslie suddenly relocated to Terry, MS in order to live in a trailer on her friend’s family land. Leslie states this is permanent. Leslie has a mental disorder (bipolar). Lauren, her daughter stated Leslie takes kolonopins, adderall and some other pill.

Though each patient is different, a hygienists typically cleans teeth all day. Another con would be the occasional unpleasant patients. As expected, much of a dental hygienist’s job requires working with people’s mouths. Dental Hygienist come into contact with the occasional patient who has bad breath, swollen gums or tooth decay. Another pro would be flexibility in their schedules.

Imagine the whole world having perfect, clean shiny teeth. Imagine being the one to make this happen. This would not be able to occur if it weren’t for dental hygienists. Dental hygienists are the reason why people have the confidence to smile. Dental hygiene is a great career choice for anyone willing to help people’s physical appearance and health.

During my placement I worked alongside the dental hygienist, this gave me insight on the daily role of a dental hygienist and therapist. Before dental nursing I studied BTEC Applied Science Level 3. The course involved extensive study of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

The majority of the CE I focused on this semester has been either paying off my student loans or the financial matters regarding myself and a future practice I would like to own. I had an experience this winter break that peaked my interest in practice design and management. I didn’t write about it because I forgot about the ‘critical incident” I reffed a hockey game with a Fargo dentist, Dr. Jeremy Wehrman, and we discussed practice management, school loans, and finances in general. He invited me to tour his office after the game and we ended up talking for hours. He designed the practice entirely by himself with the sole goal to make patients comfortable.

For instance, it was interesting to be able to see and work within the different dynamics of the nursing profession. In the OR and endoscopy unit I noticed that the nurses seemed much more relaxed than those on the medical or surgical floor. I felt as though they had copious amounts of time to educate on the different procedures and different pieces of the specialty areas, while allowing me plenty of time to ask questions to broaden my knowledge. Background Statement: In this particular case, Dr. Rose is going to her usual 6-month cleaning appointment with her dentist. She is a 65-year-old nurse. She gives the receptionist her insurance card and an intake form which contain lengthy allergy information, including her previously discovered allergy to chlorhexidine. This allergy was discovered during her appointment the past summer.

I was the first to arrive at the Residency program. The first person to greet and welcome me was Dr. Burkhart. After meeting Dr. Burkhart I knew that I knew, my experience was going to be amazing! Like many, I was anxious and excited both, simultaneously. As the room began to fill up, I noticed friendly smiles from my class of 2019 classmates.

The statement, "Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life,“ has such an impact on my thought process that it has convinced me to pursue dentistry as my career. I cannot imagine waking up every morning unmotivated and unenergetic about my job, as well going to bed dissatisfied and unfulfilled. As a dentist, there is a whole lot I can do - relieve people of their pain, give them a beautiful smile and the teeth they have always wanted, and can detect cancer at an early stage. For me, dentistry is not just a job, but also a wonderful way to live my life, which I cannot imagine otherwise. It was at the age of 14 when I had my first encounter with a dentist that changed my entire perspective about this field.

I would be lying if I say the high income wasn’t one of my reasons why did I choose dentistry, but on top of that, I get to satisfy the needs of every patient, help people ‘hands-on’,

They allowed me to come into their workplace and give me more than I could ever imagine--completely changing, along with adding, to my life values. My responsibilities at my internship included; cleaning the rooms after patient visits- which involved cleaning equipment and tools, setting the rooms back up for the next visit, learning their software program so I could help log patients oral information, paperwork at the front desk, and even hands on procedures. My dentist allowed me to perform my very own amalgam filling on a patient which demonstrated to me how devoted and determined he is to teach younger students about the profession, and how I need to be that devoted and determined to get to where he is. My internship has confirmed for me that dentistry is the route I want to go, which changes my life forever. I have welcomed values into my life that shape me into a professionally mature, hard-working and loving person all thanks to twelve weeks at a dentist
