I want to join the profession of dentistry because it allows me to aesthetically and creatively use my hands to fix a patients problem instantly. I have always wanted to join a profession that would allow me to make a difference in one's life and take care of people. My experience during Gateway to Dentistry and interning at dental offices gave me a better understanding about the interactive and hands on qualities of dentistry, as well as the relationships that develop between the dentist and patient. I believe that a dentist is a caregiver to the overall health of a person. By giving patients a better smile, a dentist is providing the patient with the self-confidence to speak up, smile, and become an active participant in their own life. The
My ambition to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy at University commenced in my teenage years, when I first came to London and visited the dentist. The professional approach coupled with a kind and compassionate nature and all of the different instruments and scientific technology the Dental Hygienist and Therapist used fascinated me. I am currently studying Dental Nursing at Teesside University. This course involves providing correct support to the dentist at the chair side, reassuring and supporting patients, maintaining a gold standard clinical environment, charting, dental anatomy and physiology. Studying this course has enhanced my knowledge of dental terminology and procedures as well as the anatomy of the oral cavity.
Not only do crooked or gapped teeth contribute to anxiety also yellowing and visible cavities make people hesitant to do simple things. Things that dental assistants do to help people be more confident in their smiles are whitening and cleaning teeth. I would be able to give people a whiter, fresher, and more healthy smile without them having to go under anesthesia unless they needed something like a root canal. I love to help people, by being an assistant versus an actual dentist, I would be the person who knows the patient the best and would be with them from the time they are to the time they leave. Essentially, I would be the person to do everything but perform a procedure on the patient, including, taking pictures of their teeth, x-rays, cleaning, whitening, and asking the questions about their oral health.

Ever since I was young, dentistry had sparked my interest for my career. Dentistry appeals to me chiefly because I had always wanted to be involved in a profession where I can help people. My love towards human biology especially human teeth also contributes to my career choice. Most importantly, I find human teeth interesting, often fascinating. Due to my compassionate nature, I have since long known that I would want to pursue dentistry as my career because I get to form relationships with my patients, work hand in hand with many people on a face to face basis.
