Descriptive Essay: The Lake Country Playhouse

The actors’ portrayal of residents of Newtown as well as the use of the stage are what really engaged me as an audience member. I attended they play at The Human Race Theater Company on February 3rd. I had never been to this theater so I really had no expectations of it. The cast’s ability to really make the audience feel like he or she is actually in Newtown during the aftermath of the shooting is what really engages them.

I was exposed to a high-intensity of competitiveness and the attitudes that came along with it. My perspective on life and my personality were both changing quickly and I was beginning to like the person I was becoming. I was able to hold conversations and became much more social than I previously was too shy to accomplish. This newfound confidence solidified my feeling of separation between myself and the group of girls.

Savannah Live was a musical preformance held in one of the oldest continuing theater halls in the nation. The theater, appropiately named the Historic Savannah Theater, origionally opened in 1818, yet do to years of wear and tear and several fires, the modern theater was retrofitted to look like its 1940s, art-deco self. Although the stage was in the traditional Proscienim style, the play was anything but traditional. The stage hall itself seemed like something right out of the hay day of Broadway, with lights surrounding the procienian arch, red velvet chairs and carpet, the hall was like a time caplse bringing me back into the 20th centry. Mimicing the transformations of the hall throughout the years, the musical took the audience on a journey through musical, and theatrical history.

The Greeks were the first to introduce the concept of theater. As a matter of fact, one performer, Thespis, created the idea of a chorus, which was a group of people that expressed opinions, gave advice, and had the author’s point of view. The chorus would be the equivalent to the “score” in modern theater. The International Thespian Society, an organization formed to honor student’s success in the theater, was named after Thespis. In Greek theater, the place that the actors performed was called the “paraskene,” while in modern theater it is called the stage.

Hope’s class was. The hallway felt never-ending, seeing all the unfamiliar faces made me nervous, but excited at the same time. It was an unusual feeling, but I made it to the class, took my seat, and waited patiently for the teacher to begin. My first new friend was named Cameo, she came up to me and introduced herself, she appeared eager, but I could tell she was just as nervous as I was. I was reluctant to speak to a lot of people due to my speech impediment.

The fall of the federal theatre project was due to the motive of the project, which was misinterpreted. The government did not believe in spending tax money to pay performers and promote art. The closure of federal theatre made about “8,000 people lose their jobs” (Paula Becker

The productions of this play were successful through stage design, lighting crewing, and acting. Those three aspects made the quality of the play stand out to me, as an audience member. The production of the set design of the play was a good effort. The set design for the play staging aims for the sweet spot between feeding adult nostalgia and satisfying a new generation of children.

Throughout the series of time, the theatre has been an essential integral in human-being. It is through theatre that people gain a sense of understanding for different and relatable perspectives. For many individuals who are, or have been involved in theatre, it has nourished them with meaningful messages and morals. A well-known company called “ Bread and Puppet” is an old but prevalent theater in our society today. The Bread and Puppet Theater was founded in 1963 by Peter Schumann in Lower East Side of New York City (Bread and Puppet Theater).

From this day, I still remember how lonely I felt and how badly I wanted to be accepted. I dreaded to go to recess because I wasn't sure what type of crowd I would “ fit in” with. As I walked in class, I saw everyone divided into various cliques and eventually I found myself every week trying to fit in with a different one. I tried my best to act like those kids in order to fit in, I changed so many things such as my attitude, my clothing, my hairstyles and how I spoke in the span of one year. I was so desperate to feel like I was not alone and had real friends that I basically would’ve done anything for others to like me.

Rocking gently, the car of the Ferris Wheel stops at the very top. Below, the lights of the carousel glow yellow, green, and pink as the carousel turns, giggling children and parents riding its proud horses. We hear the screams of the riders on the Zipper as they spin through the night air. Mingled smells of funnel cakes and popcorn complement the banjo and harmonies of a bluegrass band. As we lean over the safety bar, we smile at the Bergton Fair below on this humid August night, and then we slowly look from the scene to face one another.

The Cabin In the middle of nowhere, clear back on a dead end road in a tiny town called Outing, there is a cabin. It is in Minnesota. When you picture a cabin in your head you think of a log cabin built entirely of wood that has a big fireplace in the living room and deer heads hanging on the walls. This cabin was different.

Most people never would consider Centre, Alabama, a small sleepy Southern town with a laid back atmosphere that could put an incurable insomniac to sleep, home to a thriving community theatre. Theatre Centre provides entertainment, wonder, dread, and happiness for all who witness it. I have loved and adored the theatre ever since I was a small child, performing in every play I could. Standing on stage fills me with a sense of pride and happiness that can be found nowhere else in the world. I love theatre, and even though the theatre I love more than any other thrives in a small town in Alabama, I still have a wonderful experience every time I go.

That is when in 1599 the Globe Theatre was created housing many of Shakespeare’s plays. Taking a deeper look into the history of the Globe, the plays presented there, and the overall effects of the theatre may give a person a deeper appreciation for Shakespeare’s work. In the twenty-first century, the plays of William Shakespeare may at first appear dated and irrelevant: they use archaic language, are set in the age of Kings and Queens, and the Kingdom of England. However, it would be plainly mistaken to construe that Shakespeare’s works do not still remain integral to a twenty-first century society. Shakespeare’s plays gave the words and expressions one uses every day, revolutionized the art of theater as it was known, and forewarned about issues that would unknowingly still apply centuries later. Therefore, Shakespeare has had a profound effect on our lives by enriching our language and culture, as well as providing ideas that would still apply five centuries later, and it would thus behoove us to learn from his works and life.
