Gamesmanship has been described as "Pushing the rules to the limit without getting caught, using whatever dubious methods possible to achieve the desired end" (Lumpkin, Stoll and Beller, 1994), to gain unfair advantage. In contrast deviance is summarised as “ not inherent in specific behaviour or attitudes but rather is a phenomenon of human interaction in a particular normative setting” ( Theodorson & Theodorson, 1969, p.111). Deviance is any behaviour which differs from the perceived social or legal norms. Both of these occur in the world of sport today in many different forms.
