Prologue The Holocaust was a tragedy that happened in the 1940’s . It took around 11 million lives, 6 million of them being Jews. The victims of the Holocaust went through hell. They were starved, beat, and separated from their families. It is very important that we don’t forget about the atrocities of the Holocaust because if we forget about them we are opening a pathway for another tragic event to take place. We also can’t forget the Holocaust because we should honor all the victims for their perseverance and bravery. While reading this book I had some epiphanies go through my mind as I was reading. One of the being as I was reading through chapter 3. AKiba Drumer stated “God is testing us” (Wiesel pg.45) Akiba’s statement was 100% true he was testing the Jews to see how much faith they had in him and who would give up on him and who …show more content…
This made me realize in my own life that God has been testing my faith lately, and I need to keep my faith in him and have a stronger relationship with him instead of giving up and not believing in him. Another epiphany that occured to me as I was reading was the father and son relationship that Elie and his father had. This made me realize that I need to take time to spend with my family and never leave without saying I love you and hug because we never know what could happen. All books have a theme or themes. In the book Night there are 3 main themes that sticks out to me one of them being faith. Faith is a big theme in this book the main character Elie had all the faith in the world at the beginning of the story but by the end he had lost it all. Elie’s friend AKiba drumer also had faith but when he lost it he gave up and died. Without faith it's harder to live. Another theme would be the father - son bond . The bond that Elie and his father had was unbreakable. If they wouldn’t have had each other they both probably would have died early during their experience in the
My symbol was the block. I thought this represented the ghettos and living spaces in the camps. My first detail is that Elie stayed in a ghetto when he first got involved in the war. “Two ghettos were created in Sighet.” (Wiesel 11)
Throughout the book night, you see many examples of the will of the human being whether it is weak or strong, Such as Juliek's strong will to play his violin and raise the spirits of his fellow men, or Akiba Drumer's weak will, as he slowly loses his grip on his faith. Through all the examples of these people's wills, I think that the theme of this book is that through hardships, the will of a person is truly revealed. Some examples of hardships for Elie were the ghetto and the horrors of the concentration camps. He had gone through beatings and malnourishment.
“‘I wanted to return to Sighet to describe to you my death so that you might ready yourselves while there is still time. Life? I no longer care to live…but I wanted to come back to warn you. Only no one is listening to me’” (Wiesel 7).
The first piece of advice about how to survive, given to Wiesel, was from a young Pole, a prisoner in charge of one of the prison blocks. After Eliezer, his father, and the rest of the selected prisoners, made the short march from Birkenau to Auschwitz. Upon arrival they were forced to shower. After the showers, they were left outside cold and wet, naked and never given the clothes they were promised. Guards came and told the prisoners they had to run, “The faster you run, the sooner you can go to bed” (page 38).
During all of the struggles Elie gains a bit of life knowledge, and learns more emotions about himself. If this journey never happened Elie would still be focussing about his studies and not about his family. A fact Elie acquires during the holocaust is always to stay positive in hard times. An example of this is when Elie is running for miles and notices men giving up just makes Elie think about when he can sleep and eat at the next camp. When news comes that the Russians will save the prisoners, Elie keeps this as a positive and keeps thinking this horrifying journey will be over.
Grace Trost Night by Elie Wiesel March 30, 2015 Book 1. I would've said to him,"If there really is a God then he would send mercy as it is necessary, but if there isn't then what is the point of wanting to die to escape this place because if you see death as a relief because you would be going to heaven, but if there is no God then there is no heaven to go to. You just have to hang on and believe that God will save you when the time is right. God is just testing our faith and we need to stay strong so that he will have the joy of going to heaven and being with him once this is all over.
Night Essay Night has many themes, but when reading the book the main themes were, religion, violence and imprisonment. These themes all have there opposites also. Imprisonment played a big roll in the book because they book is telling you what it was like to be held hostage during the holocaust, what it felt like, what they did to survive. While being imprisoned for being jewish, they were also separated from their families, well Elie stayed with his dad but he got separated from his mother and sister, and couldn't do anything about it because if he tried he would most likely be thrown in a pit of fire. Being imprisoned comes with more than just being taken, Elie was starved, and just hated by everyone.
When Wiesel said that he had ceased to feel human, he mean that he prefer to give up, to die not to feel pain anymore. Also, he means that death might be better than living at that moment, hat it would be so easy to just fall off to the side and die then there would be no more pain or misery. He wouldn’t be cold, his foot would be not hurt, he wouldn’t be hungry, tired or anything. He has seen over and over other people just… not really give up. But more… give in to death, and if it wasn’t for his dad he probably would have done it.
My theme for night was the preservation of self over others. Throughout the book many people become selfish and start to care only of themselves including Elie. The reason why I chose this as my theme is because I find it very interesting how under certain situations people change very rapidly. Elie soon comes to realize this , but does little to change it. Mostly ,because he needs to be this way in order to survive.
The Holocaust, which occurred during the Second World War, is one of the most devastating and catastrophic events in human history. It is a tragic event that left an everlasting scar on the face of history. This major historical event resulted in the mass murder of millions of people, primarily Jews, by the Nazi regime. The historical relevance of the Holocaust cannot be overstated. It is a reminder of the dangers of authoritarianism, fascism, and anti semitism.
To find a man who has not experienced suffering is impossible; to have man without hardship is equally unfeasible. Such trials are a part of life and assert that one is alive by shaping one’s character. In the autobiographical memoir Night by Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, this molding is depicted through Elie’s transformation concerning his identity, faith, and perspective. As a young boy, Elie and his fellow neighbors of Sighet, Romania were sent to Auschwitz, a macabre concentration camp with the sole motive of torturing and killing Jews like himself. There, Elie experiences unimaginable suffering, and upon liberation a year later, leaves as a transformed person.

Family “Father! Father! Wake up. They’re going to throw you outside… No!
It's amazing to realize how much the human body can endure and still think of others. This man took hundreds of beatings and separated from his family yet still put others in front of him. He would steal bread from the bakery he worked at before he was selected and give it to his friends in the ghettos. He, like Eliezer, was put in ghettos.
