In the early 1600’s British settlers colonized the east coast of North America forming a total of 13 colonies. These arising colonies began to grow and evolve into different societies despite being from the same region beforehand. One of the reasons that led to distinct separation among regions was social disjunctions. Others significant reasons include various economic incentives and political stance as well as religious motives. With varying social, economic, and religious disjunctions, the New England and Chesapeake regions both evolved into two distinct societies by the start of the 18’th century.

None of the colonies offered freedom of religion except for Rhode Island and Pennsylvania. The soil, water, and climate played a huge role in the colonies. The relationship between the 13 colonies before 1754, because of England’s ongoing war with France the Colonies were allowed to trade with little interference from British authorities.

Great Britain provided many basic constitutional principles to the colonies. These ideas founded our government and shaped our country. Some principles we adopted from England helped develop our representative government, one being republicanism. In all colonies except for Georgia, republicanism was a common practice.

“What is so special about Pennsylvania? Who would be willing to go get settle there?” In the seventeenth century German colonists started moving to Pennsylvania. In 1700 there was an agent by the name of Francis Pastorius, he wrote a description of Pennsylvania as he lived there. Nearly fifth years later in 1754 Gottlieb Mittelberger wrote about his time in Pennsylvania in his book titled “Journey to Pennsylvania.”

The “Great Awakening” is an agnomen placed on the erroneous perspectives relating to theology during colonial American times. Colonial settlers arrived to unfamiliar providences seeking theological opportunities. Prior to the “Great Awakening” puritanical ethnicity was the divinity that engulfed colonial ethicists. The Great Awakening was peculiar in severity and signalized an extraordinary transformation pertaining to religious sentiment. This Awakening scarred the psychological and philosophical kinship amidst colonists.

The thirteen colonies, which were divided into 3 regions, were all different and unique in many ways. However, the diversity among the New England Colonies, the Middle Colonies and the Southern Colonies is perhaps what made them so distinctive. The differences between these three regions affected the way they lived, but later, they gained knowledge by analyzing their mistakes and differences. Although these three regions only had a few things in common, it was the differences among them that helped them grow and learn from one another.

Although the Spanish, French, and English all had major impacts on their respective settlements, the English had a substantial influence on what became the American colonies. From the early founding of Jamestown in 1607 until the calls for American independence in 1776, the people who settled in New England had a direct impact on the nation’s future. American culture and values changed over the course of the next one-and-a-half centuries, leading to uniqueness only present in the New World. Spanning from religious groups to scientific thinkers, developments in New England led to independent viewpoints that differed from Great Britain’s. Ultimately, this was a contributing factor for the American War of Independence in 1776.

In New England their religion was mostly Puritans and they settled the area to practice their religion. Puritans believed a lot in hard work, which reflected in their economy. Puritans had self-government. They made rules for themselves, religion effected a very large part of the government for example only male church members could vote or be part of the government. In the middle colonies, it wasn’t only dominated by one religion which gave into more liberal attitudes and religious freedom.

Colonies were built in British North America, although most of the land was still unexplored in the seventeenth century. The Spanish, English, and French were the three powers at the time on this land. The winter of 1609-1610 was a harsh winter for the new settlers, they started out with 400 settlers and only 60 of them survived due to the starvation, diseases, and malnutrition. At this time the Natives and English were major rivals until the Peace Treaty of 1646, the Chesapeake Indians had to agree to staying outside of the English areas, as well as having hope that they could peacefully coexist. By 1669 roughly only 2,000 Chesapeake Indians remained.

This tolerance also emerges out of decreasing religions during the 18th century. According to Macmillan Learning, the decrease in religious importance helped to unify the country 's (129). As time progress more people were focusing on world events than previously in the 1700’s. Britain had lax control over the colonies at this point, the colonies tended to follow the same rules of governing even though the colonies were separate entities. This added to the sense of unity between nations.

The colonies of Massachusetts and Virginia were a start of the new world for England. These were founded by similar people but, with their strikingly differences, grew into separate political, economic and social structures. Both settlements arose from over-crowdedness in England: people wanted a better life. Virginia was settled by men who were single and looking for opportunities and wealth. They were part of the Anglican religion.

The Northern and Southern colonies in the seventeenth century had many differences and similarities. The differences go all the way back to the beginning as the United States was only separated into the Northern, middle and southern colonies. Each colony shared many differences mainly revolving around religion, politics, economics and social issues. The result of the way that they dealt with these issues in our country today. The Puritans established the Northern colonies and the southern colonies were ruled by The house of burgesses.

The 13 Colonies are broken down into 3 parts, Middle, Southern, and New England Colonies. There were many similarities and differences between all of the 13 Colonies. Many of them ranging from their climate and geography to the role women and African Americans played. A variety of people came from all around the world to the 13 Colonies for many different reasons. In the Middle Colonies, there was a very diverse population.

Colonial and contemporary America have many similarities and differences. Differences can be obvious because our country has advanced so drastically over the different generations, but the similarities should not go unnoticed. Although there are many, major comparisons to be made between these two eras are their music and modes of transportation. Music has evolved greatly in America over the years. Colonial America’s music was played with instruments like the harpsichord, violin, fiddle, hammered dulcimer, tabor pipe, drum, and recorder.
