According to Master class one dystopian motif is corrupt government. An example is when in the book Doon says “Yes. The mayor has a secret treasure room in the Pipeworks.” While talking to Lina then he also says “Tell the whole city the mayor is robbing us!”. This shows how the mayor is taking all the food for himself proving government is corrupt. This is bad because Ember city is having a food shortages showing the environmental ruin. Similarly in the movie Doon says The mayor- He's got a bunker in the Pipeworks. It's filled with food. And then Lina adds on and says You mean the mayor is stealing? Also proving the great use of government corruption in City of Ember. These quotes show the dystopian motifs in the book in the motion picture City of …show more content…
According to Master class one dystopian motif is Loss of individualism. An example is when in the book the narrator says “On the last day of their final year, which was called Assignment Day, they were given jobs to do” and the mayor the main antagonist, says the Job you draw today is for three years. This shows that they don't get to choose what jobs they have they pull it from a bag which takes there individualism. This is because they don't have the choice to choose what they want purse. Similarly in the movie Doon father says “You can't control what job you get on Assignment Day.” proving the great use of loss individualism in City of Ember because your job defines you and it also shows what your good at. These quotes show some of the dystopian motifs in the book and the film City of
The city is short on food so the people of Ember are skinny, but not for the major. Its suspicious, because the major is more heavier set that everyone else. Doon and Lina find out that he is hording food for himself and causing the people to starve. He is the first major to not discover the secrets of Ember. He abuses his power as mayor and is very mean.
In my opinion there are a lot of comparisons between the film and the book, but there are also differences between them too, but also they have impacted the audience in both the film and the
Jeanne DuPrau’s novel, The City Of Ember, tells the story of two good friends who work together to try and escape, their home town, Ember. They face many challenges and problems that try to slow them down and make them fail their goal. For example Lina’s younger sister Poppy has no one to watch her and Lina is smart and thinks about that and solves another problem. Determination and intelligence make escape possible for Doon and Lina.
Harrison Bergeron and Anthem are good examples of a dystopia because they show how communism has a positive and negative affect. Harrison Bergeron is based upon a teenager that is killed because he had different beliefs on society. He got put away because he was smarter, prettier, and more intelligent than others. In that society they would
The aspects of a dystopia world is that in a world like that nothing very is perfect. There isn’t any happy about a dystopian world, many things go wrong in a world like that. In the short story “ Harrison Bergeron” it warns us about negative aspects of society. The author gave us a good example of a dystopian world, in this stories it really makes you think what the author is trying to warn us about the way we live our lives.

Dystopia is a popular genre in which authors write about a fictional society that is perceived to be perfect and ideal by the vast majority of the people in it. Authors must intrigue the reader, and this is difficult because they have to somehow illustrate a future that is vaguely similar to ours. However, it has to be completely fictional, which makes it tough to formulate realistic storylines. Nevertheless, these authors use literary elements to counter these difficulties and produce realistic characters and you can see this when Ray Bradbury, Ayn Rand, and James Dashner use symbolism in their respected novels, Fahrenheit 451, Anthem, and The Maze Runner. This literary technique gives Dystopian Literature the uniqueness and adds the key elements to make the story flow.
There are many simularities and differences in the book and movie " The
Some examples of this is in Harrison Bergeron and in the short film called The Lottery. One major characteristic of a dystopian society are through different types of control that a government takes. This could be making the people of a ruled locations lives miserable. They could take away basic human rights that all people rightfully deserve. Another major characteristic of dystopias is people losing their individuality.
The book Anthem by Ayn Rand is an example of a dystopian society. The definition of a dystopian society, is a society that is in the illusion of a perfect society, but in reality they are living a horrible life, but they don’t know any better. In Anthem the main character equality broke that illusion and figured out what was happening. Another example of a dystopian is the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. In the Hunger Games people lived and districts and had their lives chosen for them before they were born.
You can see how this is a dystopia because of the way the characters have to dress, act,
“The City of Ember” has many similarities and differences between film however, the movie was a more entertaining experience. The two brave and strong main characters, Lina and Doon, are assigned each other’s wished jobs on assignment day. After the assembly, Lina and Doon secretly switch their jobs as the next day they go off to each other’s new jobs, Lina as a messenger and Doon as a pipeworks worker. Together, they explore Ember and eventually find a way out in the pipeworks where Doon works. They take Poppy, Lina’s younger sister, and get into a boat made from one of the lockers.
Dystopian Society- nothing is churning. In the book The City of Ember by Jeanne Duprau she indicates that the City of Ember is a dystopian society. The job structure in Ember is a really uncommon way to work, and the lack of knowledge is gruesome, they know nothing! The resources are so low that people find it painstakingly hard to live. Mostly everyone is the same except Doon and Lina.
They slightly differ from one another. The novel is set way into the future with many types of new technology and obviously very new laws on censorship. The film is set in a contemporary futuristic setting, but it lacks some major features from the book. Three big ones are the wall-sized televisions, jet-powered cars and most importantly, the mechanical hounds. The main reason I say the most important is the mechanical hound is because it has a large roll in the government trying to capture Montag.
Dystopian stories are usually set in an unfavorable society in which to live, where the antagonist is the society itself, and the protagonist is the person who is looking towards changing this society and fixing its flaws, who believes that they can make a difference by overthrowing the government or escaping from it. The conflict is often not solved, or the hero fails to solve it, and the dystopian society continues as it was before. Harrison Bergeron is an example of a dystopian story where society has intensely controlled the population’s unique qualities to make everyone exactly equal. People’s talent, beauty, intelligence, and any other quality that makes them different is brought down and destroyed by forcing them to wear handicaps, masks, and weights. Harrison Bergeron is the protagonist of the story.
