Though PETA may hold the idea that shechita is inhumane, most relevant points of Jewish law regarding this process would staunchly disagree. To quote a rabbinical commentary, The Torah elevates the status of humans above animals. According to Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Krasilschikov, “The Torah regards human life as more important than that of animals (Genesis 1:26) and therefore commands us to be careful not to cause unnecessary suffering to animals, even those that are classified as tamei (ritually impure).” (Krasilschikov, 2018). This view of man’s elevated status is reflected in the commandment of shechita, which requires that animals be slaughtered humanely, with a single cut of the knife. This commandment reflects the Torah’s view that animals …show more content…
According to Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Borenstein, “The Talmud teaches that humans have a higher status than animals and are therefore obligated to ensure that animals are not unnecessarily harmed, even when they are tamei (ritually impure).” (Borenstein, 2015). This commandment emphasizes the Talmud’s view that animals should be treated humanely, reinforcing the perpetuated ideal in jewish culture of compassionate treatment towards animals. According to Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon (Maimonides), “The act of slaughtering must be done quickly, and with one stroke of a sharp knife, so as to minimize the pain and suffering of the animal.” (Maimonides, 2006). This commandment, corresponding with the ones above, makes it clear that the foremost priority of humane slaughter is painlessness. The concept of Tzar Baalei Chaim, which literally translates to “the suffering of living creatures”, is a Jewish concept which requires that animals be treated with compassion and mercy. According to Rabbi Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg, “The Torah commands us to be kind and compassionate to animals, and not to cause them any unnecessary suffering.” (Weinberg, …show more content…
The Jewish people have a long history of advocating for the humane treatment of animals. According to the Jewish World Watch, “The Jewish tradition teaches that humans must never forget their responsibility to be stewards of the earth and its inhabitants. The Jewish people are charged with protecting and preserving the environment, which includes animals and their habitats.” (Jewish World Watch, 2019). To counter PETA's accusations, it is clear that the Jewish people have a deep respect for animals and have a long history of treating them with compassion and mercy. The sources discussed above demonstrate that man is of a higher status than animals, and that he is responsible for using his power and authority in a moral and ethical way. They also show that animals should be treated with kindness and respect, and that their feelings should be taken into account. Additionally, they show that shechita is meant to be a humane process, and that there is a prohibition against causing unnecessary pain to animals. Finally, they show that compassion towards animals is an important part of Jewish law, and that cruelty towards animals should be
According to Jeremy Rifkin’s article, “A Change of Heart About Animals,” research has shown that animals are more similar to humans than originally believed. Through the many studies provided, Rifkin claims the need to provide better treatment towards animals. While animals deserve and could benefit from a more humane treatment than what is currently provided, they may not necessarily require a human-like lifestyle simply because of their similarities to humans.
“The Seven Commandments: 1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy. 2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend. 3. No animal shall wear clothes.
Throughout history, personal feelings, ethics, persuasion, and judgement is what lead the masses of countries. Such actions can be considered horrendous and uncivilized acts, which are unbefitting for our generation. There is no reason that we should be killing any animal inhumanely, just for pure succulent pleasure.
He asserts that it is wrong to treat animals as mere means to an end, just as it is wrong to treat humans in this way.
The animals made seven commandments that were; “1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy. 2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend. 3.
The same applies to animals. It is immoral and cruel to kill an animal for no reason, but alright to kill them for food. In John Steinbeck’s Novel Of Mice and Men, the topic of death is brought up quite often, whether it is mercy or murder. Taking life can be merciful depending on the situation at hand.

To begin, when talking about animals it can be a very sensitive subject mainly because the way animals are treated on farms, and how no one feels the need to question these actions. This is because many people feel this issue doesn’t concern them. In this essay Matthew Scully discusses the issue on how animals are treated and how they should be given more respect, and attention. Matthew Scully argues that animals in these factory farms are wrongfully treated, he uses biblical references and addresses the morals of humans to get conservatives to act on this matter.
Is it right to kill those innocent creatures painfully? No. It’s not right to harm them for our own benefits. Every living soul have rights, this includes animals, and just because they can’t speak up for themselves doesn’t mean we can take that away from them. The fact that they can’t speak is a disadvantage, and it’s unethical for us to use their disadvantage against them for our own benefits.
1) The Seven Commandments was propaganda for animalism, which was based on equality and not being humanlike in any way. First, No animal shall wear clothes. This is because by the time the pigs adopt clothes they are so powerful, and the other animals are so fearful, that it is unnecessary; second, whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend. Because once they have achieved victory, animals must not emulate Man.
First, even a marginally better death is still death. The life we give these animals by breeding them does not give us the right to nonchalantly take it away for our own pleasure. As Ashley Byrne, a PETA campaign specialist, says, “Slaughter can be less cruel, but not humane.” Additionally, in an interview with the General Managers of one of the most progressive slaughterhouses, it is revealed that the owners ‘sometimes get attached to the cattle and occasionally spare one they become close to, keeping it as a pet’
Animal Cruelty Have you ever wondered how much atrocious animal treatments are occurring around the world? The average number of animal abuse cases reported in the media each year is 1,920 according to a study conducted this year by Statistic Brain Research Institute. Moreover, a lot of animals struggle around the globe because they are often beaten, neglected and hunted, which forces them to fight for survival. Helpless animals continue to be exploited by humans and are still constantly being robbed of their lives. Thus, animal cruelty is the killing, exploiting and neglecting the needs of animals that are causing extinction and nonessential suffering.
So we look at the animal world a realistic view of its importance in the life and usefulness of the human person, and to cooperate with him in the architecture of the universe and the continuation of life. Thus, Islam was denied torture the animal, as well as Islam forbids the imprisonment of the animal or crush it, and ordered it to use in what created it, and not overwork, or can not afford loaded from weightlifting. Quran states to honor the animal, and the statement of its position and its importance, and to locate the human side, he says Almighty: (And cattle He has created for you (men): from them ye derive warmth, and numerous benefits, and of their (meat) ye eat.(5)And ye have a sense of pride and beauty in them as ye drive them home in the evening, and as ye lead them forth to pasture in the morning.(6)And they carry your heavy loads to lands that ye could not (otherwise) reach except with souls distressed: for your Lord is indeed Most Kind, Most Merciful,(7)And
On the one hand, some people are favorable for killing animals. It has many opinions why they have accepted. Their reasons with cruelty make them get many benefits such as nutrient, knowledge, safety, prevention, and money. The first reason for killing animals is humans killed them for consuming such as pork made from pigs, beef made from cows, and lamp made from sheep. Human’s life exists to cause by plants and animals.
Most importantly, the Halal concept highlights on safety, hygiene, and wholesomeness of food that provides a good platform for healthy eating. The major focus of what Halal meat is all about the condition of these animals would not endanger the health of consumers while they are considerate with the place and process of the animals being slaughtered. The system of slaughter in the Islamic technique involves a Muslim to slaughter the animal by putting that animal like cow or goat down on the ground or by holding it if it is small size and it throats are slitting by a very sharp knife to ensure that the three main blood vessels are cut. A person who cutting the animal’s throat needs to recite “Bismillah Allahu Akbar” without torturing that animal and the animal respiratory tract, esophagus, and jugular vein must be
