Donald Trump uses logos in his speech by providing various information about growing economy, successful businesses, and improved lives of American citizens. “The stock market …has added more than seven trillion in new wealth; we've created 2.4 million jobs and that number is going up very, very substantially; new unemployment claims are near the lowest we've seen in almost half a century; African-American unemployment reached the lowest rate ever recorded in the United States and so has unemployment among Hispanic-Americans.” After providing these facts he states that it is a perfect time to work with our country. He also talks about tax decrease for middle class and small businesses. He notes that corporate taxes were reduced by fourteen …show more content…
The pathos can be noticed along the speech from the beginning to the end. He starts the speech by saying that it is a privilege to be there among other world leaders to discuss many important issues. This affects other people’ emotions by making them feel that he values his presence and is glad to communicate and work with everyone else. He states how important it is for our country among many others to ensure a bright future for new generations. He expresses his concerns about the trading system between countries and how it was abused by adding that “these and other predatory behaviors are distorting the global markets and harming businesses and workers not just in the U.S. but around the globe.” This way of using strong negative words generates a feeling of anger at those who abused the system. He notices that a new system will work not only for US, but for all other countries. This makes the listeners think that their interests are taken into consideration and it gives them a chance to improve the system that will benefit everyone. He makes sure that listeners understand how important is to build stronger military forces and fight against terrorists by using words that describe terrorists as killers who have wicked ideology. He notices that by fighting terrorism, the countries provide security for their citizens and save millions of lives. The audience feel respected, powerful and influential when Trump says: “Represented in this room are some of the remarkable citizens from all over the worlds. You are national leaders, business titans, industry giants and many of the brightest mind in many fields. Each of you has the power to change hearts, transform lives and shape your country's
The Editorial Board of The New York Times article Trump Kills Immigration Compromise is an ineffective and unsound argument. The article is centered around the Senate's debate on immigration and the Democrats and Republicans proposals for immigration laws. This creates kairos because this is a current debate and makes the argument relevant, but there is a lack of conciliatory language which is paired with the absence of evidence. This makes it so there is no warrant to support their claim that Donald Trump does not care about fixing our immigration problem as longs as he can use it for his political gain. Also, this impacts the logos and ethos and generates an ineffective and unsound argument.
Another instance of pathos involves the father persona that Obama exhibits in his speech. He connects with the audience on an emotional level as he talks about parenthood and all of the duties that parents have in caring for their children. He also talks about the duty that parents have to protect and care for their children. This is intending to draw emotion from the parents in the audience as they imagine their own child. Obama then states that we cannot keep them safe without the help of others.
The Civil Rights Address is one of the best speeches that President John F. Kennedy ever gave to the American people. It was a big-time accomplishment during his presidency. This speech put JFK on the billboards of the top presidents of the United States. The United States was falling apart, Americans forgot about the word United in the United States. There was and unfortunately still is so much hate, pain, and disliking of other races in America.
Given that he spoke for the American people, he implies that as a nation, we have had to make some difficult choices, but, yet we make those decisions with courage and determination that keeps us united. This is one of the many points that highlights his speech. Giving positive and strong statements adds strength to his speech which keeps his audience occupied with his words. Hence, it is very important that audience is listening and comprehending what is being
How we think and feel during a speech is often the result of the words a speaker uses and the tone they take. Clinton’s speech had a very specific goal of showing the audience that he was humble and sorrowful, and garner sympathy and forgiveness so that the president could continue holding his status. Clinton used many techniques and his own charisma and personality to drive the speech to be as influential, and be as memorable, as it is. Its masterful use of language and the careful presentation created a lasting impression that Americans today can reference when discerning what is really being said when a politicians
From the very beginning of his campaigning days, President Trump vowed to bring the United States more jobs, strong borders, greater wealth, and to “benefit American worker and family with his decisions on trade, taxes, immigration and foreign affairs.” (Michele,
The speech he made was effective in only one way, which is that we should not forget history and that it can repeat if we forget the events. He talks about a boy that says “What have you done with my future? What have you done for your life?” which makes the listener think about what they have done for the future of children and that makes you wonder what you're gonna do for your life. This example shows pathos.
George W Bush’s Address to the Nation Rhetorical Analysis on September 11, 2001. Our nation was attacked by a terrorist group marking the first attack on our soil since Pearl Harbor in 1941. The President at the time George W Bush gave an address to the nation regarding the attack this is the speech that I am going to give a rhetorical analysis on President Bush was successful in all of his appeals in the speech. The President used ethos, pathos, and logos to come across to the people.
Also, by saying ‘we’ this unites Trump with the crowd. This establishes Trump as a typical American who shares the same fears as the audience does. However, he keeps his macho businessman persona on by not being restrained by political correctness. He promises to put a stop to immigrants and to fight
Ethos is a rhetorical device authors use to establish their credibility to speak authoritatively on a topic. To strengthen their arguments, they also use logos, or logical arguments and scientific data, and pathos to create an emotional reaction in the audience. In the ERWC Juvenile Justice unit, four different authors, with four different levels of ethos, discuss whether or not juveniles who have been charged with murder should be tried as an adult in the adult court system. Most argue that minors should be tried in the juvenile court system, while one demands that adolescents who massacre innocent victims spend the rest of their lives in prison. After closely reading each author’s opinion, it is clear that Jennifer Jenkins has the most
The term pathos can be defined as, “by appealing to the emotions of the listener (Excelsior College, n.d., para 2).Finally, in his speech he easily accomplish the third part known as pathos because he use well-chosen words and gave images that appeal to the audience (Excelsior College, n.d). For the most part, in accomplishing this task he inform the crowd how their march prepared the way for him by stating, “It is because they marched that I got the kind of education I got, a law degree, a seat in the Illinois senate and ultimately in the United States
On an important day in 1961, John F. Kennedy delivered a speech to the people all over the US and around the world that still gets quoted today. He made this speech to unite and make everyone come together. In his speech he used various examples of ethos, pathos and logos that really helped the speech and people come together. He as president would write the speeches himself and wouldn’t let others write it for him and is praised by many people because of that. John F. Kennedy didn’t use a lot of ethos but the ones he used were very good because it got the point across clearly.
The President quoted the bible by saying “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;” This created Logos by quoting a historical document and demonstrates that this can be related to everyone in America regardless of race, religion or creed. By delivering the speech from the oval office sends a calming message to the people giving them the impression that he is speaking directly to them. It is designed to feel similar to a personal conversation. The family pictures on the stand that you see momentarily in the first few seconds of the speech add to the personal appeal. Typically, presidential speeches delivered from the Oval Office are not to give you unfortunate news, but to give you unfortunate news and a plan of action.
This is really the key. These are the people we were elected to serve." This quote proves how Trump outlines heroics based off of tragedy to help people more willing to listen to what he says about both political parties coming together in union. As Trump speech continues he maintains a use of pathos but also begins to move into the appeal of
It was important that Bush use rhetorical appeals such as ethos, pathos, and logos in his address to the nation. He also needed to use the hope and history on which America was built on to unite the
