Dragonwings Summary

Dragonwings, by Laurence Yep is an amazing book about a family overcoming obstacles, and fulfilling dreams. Moon Shadow is the son of Windrider. They were separated when he was born, but when the family’s cousin comes for a visit, Moon Shadow’s whole life will change. Although it is very dangerous, Moon Shadow wants to move to the demon land where his father works so they can be together. When he arrives to the demon land, he moves into his Uncle’s laundry mat so they can live and work together.

In the Time of the Butterflies is a book about 4 sisters, Patria, Dedé, Minerva, and María Teresa. The book is about the three girls growing up and their experiences during the time of the underground movement to overthrow Trujillo. The book was written in memory of Dedé’s 3 sisters who had been ambushed and murdered, which we are aware of since the beginning of the novel. The beginning chapter of the book is describing Dedé as she waits for a woman who is going to interview her about her three sisters, she then goes into a flashback she has of her family talking at the dinner table and her father mentions someone named Trujillo, which then gives a hint at who this book might be formed around. Through the book, we read stories about times in the girls’ lives when they were going to school at Inmaculada Concepcion and being at home and falling in love, as well as there run ins with Trujillo himself.

In the novel, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter Sweet, by Jamie Ford, Ford clearly depicts the strife of Asian Americans during the 1940s. The 1940s was a treacherous time for Asian Americans as a result of the recent Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Chinese American Henry Lee lived in Seattle’s Chinatown, during the 1940s. Henry frequently had exposure to prejudiced people for looking similar to the Japanese. The novel often flashes forward to the 1980s when Henry is older.

The author Amy Tan, in her text she deals with living in the American society more than the other author because she gives the reader a clear idea of what she is going through at the moment. In the story “Fish Cheeks” by Amy Tan, it says “What would Robert think of our shabby Chinese Christmas? What would he think of our noisy Chinese relatives who lacked poor proper American manners?” Tan

In all three stories of American Born Chinese the main character is not the biggest fan of himself and because of it they try to change. Despite both stories being from different time periods in both stories characters change to fit into what people want them to be but realize being

Dragonwings is a book about a boy named Moon Shadow and his dad, Windrider. It’s a historical book written by Laurence Yep. The main characters are Moon Shadow and his dad,who push through many obstacles using knowledge, to survive and accomplish Windrider’s dream. Moon Shadow’s father taught Moon Shadow many things, like the english language. Windrider teaches Moon Shadow how knowledge is power through language, practical skills and dreams.

In the novel “American Born Chinese” by Gene Luen Yang (2006), it talks about three different people’s stories. The author starts off with telling a story about a monkey called the Monkey King, who lives in the jungle, seeking for higher power to become considered a god in the book. The author also tells a story about an American born Chinese boy named Jin Wang, who moves from San Francisco and struggles with fitting in at a new school. The last story the author tells is about a boy named Danny who has his cousin Chin-Kee from China visit every year. Danny ends up struggling to keep his reputation in adequate shape at school after his cousin visits causing him to switch schools often.

The book Dragon keeper written by author Carole Wilkinson is set in Ancient China. The story entails a young girls sojourn throughout China. During the journey, the girl changes from believing that she is unworthy of a name to somebody who has encountered everything from almost dying to damaging endless laws deserving of death. The story begins in Ancient China with a slave girl who in the first place makes herself unworthy of even a name.

Contrast to the regular Hollywood movies, in The Wedding Banquet,the Asian parents are well educated, know English and open to accept that their son is gay; the Asian American, Wai Tung, is muscular who always goes to gym and enjoys a high social status as he is the boss of a real-estate agent company; the White is gentle, nice and gay who knows to cook Chinese dish. In addition, E Marino commented that the movie’s set of characters do not abide to the stereotypical image an American audience would

If a man could dream about something mythical it would be dragons. Dragons are one of the famous mythical creatures that people have dreamed about, they have tried to prove their existence, came up with theories but it was nothing but just a hoax. However there is a dragon that lives in the ocean, it does not breath fire, nor lives in a cave. But rather swims in the ocean with it’s dangerous venom for its protection against other species and humans. The Blue Dragon has an extraordinary shape, with a specific domain and an incredible diet.

They all face discrimination and it makes a hard task, achieving their American Dream, almost impossible. Curley’s Wife, Candy, and Crooks all have an American Dream, but they never achieve it. They all want a simple life where they are treated with respect and allowed to support themselves. None of them get what they want. Curley’s wife ends up dead and Candy and Crooks end up with nowhere to go but back to the ranch and a life where they are hated and shunned.

Throughout the entire novel, the mothers and daughters face inner struggles, family conflict, and societal collision. The divergence of cultures produces tension and miscommunication, which effectively causes the collision of American morals, beliefs, and priorities with Chinese culture which

In the story of Hyakujo’s Fox, Hyakujo talked to a monk who was forced to be reborn as a fox five hundred times because when asked the question “does a man of enlightenment fall under the yoke of causation or not” he answered with “no, he does not.” When the fox asked Hyakujo what the answer was, Hyakujo responded with “he does not ignore causation .” After this the monk reached enlightenment (Sekida, 31). This story may seem illogical but it expresses the important concepts in Buddhism that there are more than yes or no answers and that one can not ignore nen-thoughts. The monk has only thought of the question as a yes or no question but Hyakujo shows that answers are not just yes or no.

John Gardner wrote a humorous story with serious conflicts, problems, and themes. It makes you laugh while hope while reading this suspenseful tale. If someone likes silly and old tales they will be interested and maybe in his other books too. The book is “Dragon Dragon”. John Gardner was a literary critic and a university professor .

The story of Pinocchio has formed an integral part of the canon of bedtime stories for a large part of the world’s children. However, like any fairy tale, this story is also found in different forms, mediums and versions all across the world. Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio of the 1880’s for the Italian audience, and Disney’s Pinocchio of 1940 for the American audience, are two forms of the Pinocchio textual network. Poverty is significant to the fulfilment of some of the purposes and aims of the Collodi story of Pinocchio. Aimed at the young boys of Italy, Collodi’s work presents Pinocchio with the same struggles as these Italian boys so that they could connect with his character easily.
