In the passage, the author claims that the Edmontosaurus migrated south in order to survive. However, the lecture refutes the view in the reading and argues that the arguments are not convincing. First of all, the passage establishes the view that Edmontosaurus diet drove them southward because there would have been no plants alive in the North Slope. By contrast, the professor in the lecture contends that Edmontosaur does not need to migrate to South to get food. Edmontosaur can get good quality of plants since it was 24 hours of sunshine during summer. Even during the winter, Edmontosaur can consume dead plants. This contradicts with the point made in the reading. Secondly, according to the reading material, since Edmontosaur lived in a herd, which indicate they have migration movement. However, lecturer asserts that another reason for Edmontosaur to live in herds may be extra protection, but not migration. For example, the Roosevelt elk, they live in a herd, however, they do not migrate. This is opposite to the point of the reading. …show more content…
Conversely, the speaker suggests there are juveniles in the herd, which cannot travel for long distance, they may slow down the migration speed. The herd cannot make a move with all the juveniles were left behind. They chose to survive on cold North Slope. This point is contrary to what is stated in the reading
So the 89 emigrants and 20 wagons left Ft. Bridger for Weber Canyon. They found a note on at the mouth of Weber Canyon saying the trail was harder than expected and they were told to wait because the trail was harder than
In Urban area many animals are adapting to walking/running on concrete. This means that in the event that world destruction was to occur and these animals were forced to run and catch food on their own in the wild it will be a great struggle for them. Animals have adapted to sponging off of the garbage put out by us humans to go to a waste land which is also very detrimental to the environment. Along with many animals adapting to different types of "land" there are also a handful of animals who were not able to adapt and sadly died
Although they do move homes and locations to follow buffalo herds. Their religion is very different you could say. Their main god was the sun. They also believed in a supernatural being named Napi which means old man. They were very skilled huntsman.
It builds this idea that the west is still the new frontier, still waiting for people to flock and discover whatever wonders await from them. The passage ends with “it is where you just go”, hinting that many people just leave for the west just simply because they want to. Many who move out west have no real motive, they just want to escape whatever problems lie in the east. There is no real objective that anyone wants to achieve when they escape to the west, they just want to start fresh. This contrasts the idea of the self-made man.
Manatees usually migrate seasonally. And manatees travel with the warm water. Manatees do not migrate far. Manatees mostly travel for food.
The reading passage argues that the sea cow extinct in 1768 and provides three possible theories for their extinction. However, the professor explains that true cause of extinction is still unknown and there are problems with the argument by the passage and he repudiates each of the author 's reasons. At first, the reading passage posits that over-hunting of native people for food in that period is the primary reason for the extinction of sea cow. In contrast, the lecturer refutes this ratiocination by imparting that sea cow was an enormous animal with 9-meter length and about 10 tons weight. A small sea cow would be sufficient for the survival of the natives for months and they did not need to hunt a lot of these animals for food.
This astonishing fact may really affect those who care about endangered animals. The last sentence in this essay is a big push to motivate the reader. By explaining that “the bald eagles and mountain lions depend on us” (par.23), this attempts to convince the reader to take bigger
He did not want to go and leave behind his whole life and everything he knew, especially his mother and Blueback. “He’d just have to count the weeks till the holidays” (Page 47). He belonged at Longboat Bay and believed he would “wither up and die away from this place” (Page 48). Abel did not like the big town and felt “hemmed in” (Page 48).
The discovery of this mammal was proof that mammals had lived alongside the dinosaurs. It gave scientist a small glimpse into ancient mammal species. Chapter 6– Questions
Have you ever gone deer hunting on a chilly morning and wondered why the deer are not as active? Or, on a warm morning why the deer are not moving as much? I am going to explain to you why the deer move more on warm mornings so that you know that if it is cold, it is not going to as good of a day out in the woods. The reason that deer move more when it is warm is because they bed down when it is cold and windy. This is because the wind blowing straight at them messes with their senses and they need their senses to survive in the wild.
Title Researchers and scientists have constructed extensive research on dinosaur’s extinction. Speculation instead of real evidence seems common in most theories about the dinosaurs’ extinction. However, Jay Gould’s essay “Sex, Drugs, and the Extinction of Dinosaurs” is the complete opposite of speculation over evidence. Rather, Gould uses the mix of persuasive techniques, such as rhetorical questions, logos, along with profound evidence to not only disapprove of other theories but convince readers of his place on the dinosaur’s extinction.
From a more ecological standpoint, grasslands and bison ecologies were being infringed upon which upset the smooth flow of the past forms of hunting and survival among the Sioux and Comanche tribes. The growing number of horse herds and the new large-scale trade greatly impacted the grassland ecology, which than caused a decrease in bison numbers. Horses required much of the resources available in the riverine which took away the resources available for the other hunted animals, most importantly, the Bison. Their lives in the winter were growing shorter and the herds of these Buffalo were not able to live as long as before due to the limited amount of resources. The Comanche Indians experienced an even worse impact from the depleting population
In some degree, also, they diverted my mind from the thoughts over which it had brooded for the last month. I retired to rest at night; my slumbers, as it were, waited on and ministered to by the assemblance of grand shapes which I had contemplated during the day. They congregated round me; the unstained snowy mountain-top, the glittering pinnacle, the pine woods, and ragged bare ravine; the eagle, soaring amidst the clouds--they all gathered round me, and bade me be at peace.”... (page 109-110)... I remembered the effect that the view of the tremendous and ever-moving glacier had produced upon my mind when I first saw it. It had then filled me with a sublime ecstasy that gave wings to the soul, and allowed it to soar from the obscure world to light and joy.
Migration is the long distance movement of individuals from one place to another. It carries an energy cost but there are energy savings in travelling as a group. Migrations are usually for the purpose of feeding, breeding or overwintering. True migrations involve a return Journey. Biological mechanism such as an internal biological clock in the Bar-tailed Godwit is the endogenous timing system that the organism uses to synchronise its activities with the environment.
He also explained that just as the deers are afraid of the wolves , so are the mountains afraid of the deer and the other species with the fear of losing its vegetation. For this he has phrased that “The wilderness we hunt is the salvation of the world” which means that that it must not be destroyed. His main point here is that only the land can understand the true significance of an individual who is playing its role in the ecosystem. This is story that tells us the importance of very living species in nature and our eco system. If anything or any specie is absent, then there is a high probability of imbalance in eco system.
