In Brutus' speech he uses logos to try to reason with the crowd whilst Antony uses pathos to control their emotions. Brutus explains that for the betterment of Rome Caesar had to die or else he would ruin the country and destroy the great empire. He at first has everyone on his side, that is of course until Antony speaks. When Antony speaks he gives examples of how Caesar wasn't going to ruin Rome and in fact how he was the best leader they had ever had. He says that Brutus and Cassius are murderers and that's all they are.

Power has a negative effect on those who are in power. It has a negative effect, because it causes unnecessary harm. For example, many leaders throughout history have used their power to demonstrate absolute control. In Antigone, Creon used his power in a negative way.

One of his closest friends goes by the name of Marc Antony who was not only the lover of Cleopatra, but another Roman general that worked under Caesar. As history states, Brutus, a senator of Rome, was frightened that Caesar would become too powerful and become King of Rome. In order to prevent this from happening, 60 conspirators, all led by Brutus, stabbed Caesar to death.

However, like Caesar, Antony is extremely manipulative and powerful. Leadership is a key part in Julius Caesar because without it, many of the significant events in the play would not have occurred. Caesar, Brutus, Cassius, and Antony all play the role of a leader in the middle of all the confusion in Rome, however, some characters are careless and would not be good leaders. It is often seen that great leaders have great qualities that allow them to lead well, but also are able to fight through obstacles, while there are some leaders who lack those qualities and lead poorly. A poor leader would be Caesar because he is hungry for more power and only thinks of himself and not of others.

Brutus delivers his speech in a laudatory manner by conveying Caesar’s deeds and claiming he was ambitious, although Antony contradicts Brutus’ claims and says Caesar spurned the crown with the intent to merely rule as a de facto dictator. Brutus’ speech reveals his motives were truly for the benefit of Rome given his nationalistic tone and Antony’s speech was merely used to obscure his true motives, which was to embroil Rome in a series of civil wars to attain power. Brutus and Antony’s speeches consisted predominantly of Pathos and Ethos, but it is Antony who ultimately it is Antony who prevails because of his almost disingenuous attitude and even use of Logos which is seen when claims that reading Caesar’s will would dishonor his compeers and even Caesar

This thirst is a driving factor for most actions, but it is not always for the best. Nowhere else are the dangers of wanting more prevalent than in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar.
