Since Artificial Intelligence (AI) has positive effects on society and has improved greatly throughout the years, its improvement and positive effects benefit society greatly. AI Agents provide aid and help in many different societal fields such as communications, jobs and health. The aim to create non-biological intelligence has been with us for many years and has improved with the improvement of science and technology in the community. AI is computer systems that are able to perform and think almost like a human being. So they are robots that can act like a human being by showing emotions and thinking. Before machines were invented, scientists were experimenting and trying to find ways to create an intelligent human life. After the invention of machines, it was reasonable to think of it as designing intelligence instead of creating it. Some AI texts show that their authors view AI and it improvement as a set of design problems that human designers are expected to fix. Lee Spector uses Darwin’s theory of evolution to argue that Artificial Agents could have an impact on their improvement in the future, since the idea that AI will improve by itself was discussed in the past. He argues that agents that learn, grow or “redesign themselves to some limited extent”[3] best achieve intelligent behavior. Since Intelligent Agents are most likely to know what could improve their performance and just like humans they can detect where their flaws are and where to go to fix them. However, Elizabeth Wilson discusses the need of emotions in AI. She mentions a research in the mid 1990s that argued the importance of Emotional Intelligence (EI) in AI, “cohabitation of affect and artificially has been evident in AI from the very beginning”[4]. People use AI in their daily life, whether it is by using their smart phone or Laptop. Each device contains a program or codes that make our lives easier. The IPhone created by Apple© is a great example of AI in our phones. The IPhone contains Siri, a responsive program that can understand what humans are saying and takes action based on their words. The keyboard in an IPhone is designed to predict what you want to type and give word suggestions to complete the sentence you are typing based on its prediction. The camera in an IPhone can detect faces and recognize them to focus the picture on humans easily. All these technology improvements can all be combined in one agent and result in an improved and great Artificial Intelligent machine. Beyond the influences in our daily life, Artificial Intelligence is playing a major role in science and medicine; it is used to help doctors understand which patient is at more risk and to make surgeries easier and more successful by helping doctors. In David Brooks’ argument in “The New Romantics,” he explains the new romanticism that will come to our world in the near future. He thinks that computers are going to be able to do a lot of cognitive task that no human can compete with the computer. Even though humans are improving our cognitive skills, it will no longer good enough because the computer can be doing most of all things that human can not do well in coming future economy. Mayer and Salovey 's (1997) model of emotional intelligence consists of four different branches including; perception of emotion, emotional facilitation, understanding emotions, and management of emotions. Perception of emotion is the capability to become self-aware of the feelings and to convey the feelings and emotional necessities appropriately to others. Emotional facilitation is the capability to differentiate between the several feelings people are experiencing and recognize those which are affecting their thinking processes. Defining intelligence is a very difficult proposition and one which Alan Turing attempted to avoid answering as regards machine intelligence in the Imitation Game which has become known as the Turing Test (Turing, 1950). He posed the question “Can machines think?” which is he developed to ask if machines are able to converse in a way that can persuade humans they too are human. A machine is declared to have passed the test if human judges are unable to tell the difference between a human and a computer through a typed conversation. Rise of Artificial Intelligence and Ethics: Literature Review The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, authored by Nick Bostrom and Eliezer Yudkowsky, as a draft for the Cambridge Handbook of Artificial Intelligence, introduces five (5) topics of discussion in the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ethics, including, short term AI ethical issues, AI safety challenges, moral status of AI, how to conduct ethical assessment of AI, and super-intelligent Artificial Intelligence issues or, what happens when AI becomes much more intelligent than humans, but without ethical constraints? This topic of ethics and morality within AI is of particular interest for me as I will be working with machine learning, mathematical modeling, and computer simulations for my upcoming summer internship at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) in Norco, California. After I complete my Master Degree in 2020 at Northeastern University, I will become a full time research engineer working at this navy laboratory. At the suggestion of my NSWC mentor, I have opted to concentrate my master’s degree in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Algorithm Development, technologies which are all strongly associated with AI. I do not believe the field has been developed to its potential in any regard, and feel that considerable progress can be made to improve the interactive experience that users have with an artificial intelligence application. This genuine intrigue combined with my curiosity for the subject matter and the limitless potential of the field are the reason why I wish to pursue a greater depth of knowledge in artificial
