Elie Wiesel Experience In The Book Night

The story begins with the narrator, Death, talking about his first encounter with Liesel Meminger only 9 years old at the time in Molching, Germany. He meets Liesel traveling on a train mid-winter with her mother and brother. She sees her brother who was coughing harshly take his last breath in front of her. Liesel and her mother then exited the train as soon as it stopped and had her brother buried in that town. Present at the burial was Liesel, her mother, and two gravediggers.

In today's age we have been through hardships and tough times but compared to what Elie Wiesel went through we would look weak. Elie Wiesel, a holocaust survivor, wrote the book Night that showed his experience through World War ll by recounting his time he spent in concentration camps. He records his family being kicked out of their own home and being brought to hard labor by the Germans. With his father and him losing his mother and sisters Elie Wiesel undergoes changes in his faith and how he has matured.

Night #4 Elie Wiesel lost a lot throughout the WWII and the Holocaust. Elie a normal teen from Hungary gets sent to ghettos and concentration camps. But throughout the story Night, Elie loses a lot but the one thing he clings on to is hope. Elie's father was one of the biggest motivators that Elie had during at any point in any concentration camp.

In the book Night, we the readers witness the hardships and struggles in Elie’s life during the traumatic holocaust. The events that take place in this story are unbearable and are thought to be demented in modern times. In the beginning Elie is shown as a normal teenage Jewish boy, but the events are so drastic that we the readers forget how he was like in the beginning. Changes were made to Elie during the book, whether they were minor or major. The changes generated from himself, the journey, and other people.

I do not know much about my ancestors; I can only assume they come from Germany and they came a long time ago because my great-great grandparents were from America. The only home I have ever known is America. America is a country that takes the good and the bad and rolls with it, especially in the little circle of America that I live in. Bonfires, county picnics, fried-chicken, and farms associate themselves with the “American Way”; however, American culture and life go far beyond what many may at first perceive. What else could you expect from a “free” nation other than a place of freedom to express and believe whatever you want.

In the novel, “Night” Elie Wiesel communicates with the readers his thoughts and experiences during the Holocaust. Wiesel describes his fight for survival and journey questioning god’s justice, wanting an answer to why he would allow all these deaths to occur. His first time subjected into the concentration camp he felt fear, and was warned about the chimneys where the bodies were burned and turned into ashes. Despite being warned by an inmate about Auschwitz he stayed optimistic telling himself a human can’t possibly be that cruel to another human.

In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, Eliezer Wiesel narrates the legendary tale of what happened to him and his father during the Holocaust. In the introduction, Wiesel talks about how his village in Seghet was never worried about the war until it was too late. Wiesel’s village received advanced notice of the Germans, but the whole village ignored it. Throughout the entire account, Wiesel has many traits that are key to his survival in the concertation camps.

The main character is the author because this is an autobiographical novel. Eliezer was a Jew during Hitler’s reign in which Jews were persecuted. The book starts out with the author describing his faith.

“I realized that he did not want to see what they were going to do to me. He did not want to see the burning of his only son”(42). When Eliezer arrives at Auschwitz, the separation of his family puts an emotional toll on his father since he realizes that only him and Eliezer are still alive. This will be a catalyst to their relationship becoming stronger as they endure more together. Keep fighting until you cannot fight any longer. Elie Wiesel has demonstrated these characteristics in his novel, “Night.” He has fought through many tough times and experiences when he was in the Holocaust.

Imagine believing so strongly in something and then being let down, or thinking that you were wrong even to believe. In Night by Elie Wiesel, Elie felt as though he had lost his religion and belief in God. We learned how strong his beliefs were when he says,“I believed profoundly. During the day I studied the Talmud, and at night I ran to the synagogue to weep of the destruction of the Temple,” (Wiesel, 14).
