Many of the books we read today always contain some backstory to it. Whether it was just for fun or informational about an important topic or event. Many of these stories somehow or someway tie into an author 's life. Edgar Allan Poe is just one of these authors who have written works like The Cask of Amontillado, and “The Tell-Tale Heart.” Another author is S.E. Hinton which wrote the book The Outsiders and a Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel who wrote Night. The moods of these books are like a roller coaster. Some of Poe’s works may be sad a one point then exciting at another point. The Outsiders go the same way while everything will be great until a life threatening event which may make it sad. Wiesel’s book Night is mostly sad because …show more content…
Just like Poe and Hinton another author uses his writing and novels to express his life to readers. Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor, expresses his experience and sacrifices throughout the Jewish way of life during the Nazi takeover and World War II. Wiesel didn 't just write the book for his own fame though. He brought many interesting reasons to make such a horrible event in history more clear in others eyes. Wiesel explains that one of the reasons for writing about his experience is to leave behind a legacy of words that will influence people and prevent history from repeating itself (Wiesel vii). What Wiesel was referring too is not having a second holocaust and that if people learned about the way of life inside a camp, they would not want that same way of life again. Another reason for writing was to preserve the memories of a kid inside a camp (Wiesel vii). During the time of the camps Wiesel is a young adolescent put to work for the Nazis. He explains what he saw like death and gore which he says that a kid like him shouldn 't have to see that other than in a form of literature. The next reason for Wiesel’s writing is so that he may fight against people who would forget about such a crucial event (Wiesel Acceptance Speech). He mentions that if we forget, we are all guilty from what might happen next, and that we are the accomplices to see that it may happen again. Lastly, Wiesel lighty mentions two goals that he is trying to achieve. These goals happen to be understanding for those who never got the experience of concentration camps, and not keeping silent about what happened inside the walls of the camps (Wiesel ix). Through the good and the bad many should consider the actions and words spoken in the camps and act upon this so we may not repeat the actions of the Nazis during those
Nothing Throughout the book, Night the Nazis tortured and dehumanized their victims through several methods. During the first night in camp Elie Wiesel said “A truck drew close and unloaded its hold: small children. Babies!
“Granted, our task is to inform. But information must be transformed into knowledge, knowledge into sensitivity and sensitivity into commitment”. This quote was written and told by Elie Wiesel to show the transformation of which Elie Wiesel went through as being a jew and during the holocaust. The quote states that “information must be transformed into knowledge knowledge into sensitivity and sensitivity into commitment all the words have something in common. Elie Wiesel was a survivor of the holocaust which back then was the worst experience in life.
Whereas others choose to suppress their memories, this is their way of finding peace and moving on with their life. The difference in individuals ways of coping with the trauma of the holocaust is justified in the opposition of opinions that Harry Weinberg and Elie Wiesel possess. Ellie Wiesel believes that the sharing of stories and memories from the Holocaust is crucial as it was "the last wish of the dead", therefore he holds himself as responsible to "devote [his] life to testify on behalf" of the people who did not make it out of World War II or the concentration camps alive. Wiesel writes "to remain faithful" to everyone who suffered the most appalling genocide in history; and to develop an understanding amongst all people of the ghastly events that took place under the Nazi's reign. Harry Weinberg portrays survivors that choose to let their stories and memories be forgotten and swept along as they find peace in their new life away from the horrific events that plague their memory.
Wiesel informed people of what happened in the holocaust, yet his true purpose was to persuade and inspire change in the mindsets of powerful people. The speech was given in front of the president, his staff, and members of Congress. His purpose was to stop indifference when it comes to injustice, whether or not it is in America. “Indifference elicits no response. Indifference is not a response.
Elie Wiesel is a Holocaust survivor who strongly believes that people need to share their stories about the Holocaust with others. Elie Wiesel was in concentration camps for about half of his teen years along with his father. After being the only member of his family to survive the Holocaust he resolved to make what really happened more well-known. Elie Wiesel wrote dozens of books and submitted an essay titled “A God Who Remembers” to the book This I Believe. The essay focused on Elie Wiesel’s belief that those who have survived the Holocaust should not suppress their experiences but must share them so history will not repeat itself.
Did the Holocaust really happen? How are the Nazi’s let alone anyone else capable of this amount of this amount of trouble? A lot of people don 't think that the holocaust even really happened, personally I believe that it did. There are many different reasons on why the holocaust supposedly never happened but the most consistent, well believed one is that no human being is capable of causing this much torture and pain onto another person. You have probably learnt about The Holocaust from either books or in your history classes in school, but what they probably didn 't tell you that some people believe that The Holocaust never even happen.
In the novel, “Night” Elie Wiesel communicates with the readers his thoughts and experiences during the Holocaust. Wiesel describes his fight for survival and journey questioning god’s justice, wanting an answer to why he would allow all these deaths to occur. His first time subjected into the concentration camp he felt fear, and was warned about the chimneys where the bodies were burned and turned into ashes. Despite being warned by an inmate about Auschwitz he stayed optimistic telling himself a human can’t possibly be that cruel to another human.
Wiesel’s speech shows how he worked to keep the memory of those people alive because he knows that people will continue to be guilty, to be accomplices if they forget. Furthermore, Wiesel knows that keeping the memory of those poor, innocent will avoid the repetition of the atrocity done in the future. The stories and experiences of Wiesel allowed for people to see the true horrors of what occurs when people who keep silence become “accomplices” of those who inflict pain towards humans. To conclude, Wiesel chose to use parallelism in his speech to emphasize the fault people had for keeping silence and allowing the torture of innocent
When Wiesel makes it clear that he has suffered personal loss, he is evoking an emotional response from his audience. By stating that he senses their presence “The presence of my parents, that of my little sister.” the audience empathizes with him and the horror of the Holocaust is made more clear for them. They cannot only understand his feelings; they can connect to them which strengthens their understanding of the need to act whenever they witness inhumanity.
To begin with, Wiesel could not believe what was happening. He didn’t believe how cruel the Germans were. Wiesel was living a nightmare and couldn’t escape it. For instance, Wiesel stated, “I pinched myself; was I still alive? Was I awake?
Edgar Allen Poe is best known for writing suspenseful stories with very dark themes. After reading most of his stories, the climax takes place whenever it is night outside and usually gloomy. Poe is an amazing writer when it comes to deep, dark, and suspenseful stories. He can turn any story into a nightmare for the characters and even readers.
Wiesel uses a lot of very detailed descriptions and expresses his feelings in a way that we easily start to trust him. He knows that this is one of the most terrible periods in the history and he tries “to help prevent history from repeating itself” (Wiesel VII). “He does not want his past to become [the children’s] future” and that is why he writes his book to be seen by the people who do not realize how poorly people were treated (Wiesel XV). These two quotes from Night show that the holocaust shouldn’t be repeated. The author shows this with all of the feelings, facts and descriptions he uses.
Chapter One Summary: In chapter one of Night by Elie Wiesel, the some of the characters of the story are introduced and the conflict begins. The main character is the author because this is an autobiographical novel. Eliezer was a Jew during Hitler’s reign in which Jews were persecuted. The book starts out with the author describing his faith.
He uses memory as a method of protecting the future from the past. Wiesel explains that memory is “mystical” and that memory “will save humanity” (Wiesel 3) because the “memory of evil will serve as a shield against evil” and the “memory of death will serve as a shield against death” He says this because to prevent another event similar to the Holocaust; we must remember the evil to protect us from evil and remember those that died so that way we may protect ourselves from death. The logos he uses by telling us the uses of memory allows the reader to understand how to protect the future and how to prevent another Holocaust by remembering. Logically, there is a connection between memory and protection that was used allowed the reader to understand the importance of
Elie Wiesel chose not to stay silent. He chose to educate the world of his experiences. He chose to do this, for he believed that events similar to the Holocaust may occur again if people do not know what happened in the Holocaust. In Elie Wiesel’s Memoir, Night, it shows people the struggle of the Jews, how emaciated they were, and the attempt of Hitler to eradicate the entire Jewish
