Elzer's Relationship With His Father In Night By Elie Wiesel

In ww2 there were many deaths and fights between families within the concentration camps for food. Elie is a jewish boy from transylvania that faces many hardships after him and his father are separated from the rest of their family at auschwitz. In the book night by Elie Wiesel there are many father/son relationships throughout the novel. This quote is one of many throughout the book.

When Elie was separated from his mother and sister at the beginning of the book Elie was only left with his father. When things got tough, they continued pushing for each other. They made sacrifices for each other and always made sure the other was ok. Elie had lost the rest of his family so his father meant the world to him. At the end of the book this is also taken away from him.

In the book Night there are a number of father and sons that Elie and his father meet during their time in the concentration camps. Wisel focuses on these father-son relationships throughout the entire book. These relationships show the inward meaning of Elie and his father’s relationship. Wisel gives many of these scenarios and is very detailed in explaining them. Elie and his father’s relationship may have been strong, but everything comes to an end at night.

In Night, Elie and his family were one of the many families forced to live in multiple ghettos and make the long journey to Auschwitz. Once Elie and his father made it through selection they found out that Elie’s mother and sister didn’t, forcing their last encounter to be when they were ripped apart from each other. Elie and his father ate the small portions of bread and soup they were given while forced to work. Everyday was the same.

In the book Night I believe that family is the highest priority to Elie. His father is very important to him and a great motivator to stay alive and keep trying. The book Night is set in a small town in WW2 the main characters are Elie and his father. They are both jews and are soon taken to a concentration camp and the book is about them surviving the camps they go to. Elie’s father is a big motivator for Elie, but in the end of the book Elie’s father dies.

In the midst of their average lives, Elie and his fellow Jews find their lives being turned upside down. Separated from his mother and sisters, Elie is left with only his father, along with many strangers. In this unfamiliar place, Elie faces both physical and emotional abuse each day. Just a slight drop in his determination could cost Eliezer his life. On the verge of giving up, Eliezer reminds himself that he is all that his father really has, his only support.

Family is always there to help us and to get us through rough times. Night by Elie Wiesel took place in 1944 and is an autobiography telling us about Elie 's time in the concentration camps. In the novel, they went to four different camps. Those camps were, Birkenau, which is the reception center for Auschwitz, then to Buna, Gleiwitz, and finally to Buchenwald where they were saved by American troops. By examining the novel Night, we can see that family is the key to survival, which is important because those who do not have family often aren 't able to survive because they don 't have someone pushing them forward and helping them in life.

Elie was beloved by his father: “… I understood that he did not wish to see what they would do to me. He did not wish to see his only son go up in flames…” (#33). As father loved his son, Elie showed the same feelings to his father: “As for me, I was thinking about death but about not wanting to be separated from my father. We had alredy duffered so much, endured so much.

Elie’s relationship with his dad over the course of the story changed drastically. The quote, “My father was running left to right exhausted, consoling friends,” (pg 15) shows the reader that Elie 's father tried to keep everyone calm, which means he always did the same for Elie. In the book Night Elie and his father, Shlomo, have a very strong relationship, they are able to keep each other going by motivating one another in many different ways. One way that shows how they keep each other motivated is Shlomo telling him to keep going even though he’s unbelievably tired. For example, Elie is having trouble keeping up and continuing to run, so his father is telling him to wait a little longer and to keep going. His father says, ‘“Not here…Get up…A little farther down. There is a shed over there…Come…” I had no desire nor the resolve to get up.

“I realized that he did not want to see what they were going to do to me. He did not want to see the burning of his only son”(42). When Eliezer arrives at Auschwitz, the separation of his family puts an emotional toll on his father since he realizes that only him and Eliezer are still alive. This will be a catalyst to their relationship becoming stronger as they endure more together.
