When is the world really going to end? Will it be because of the people on planet earth or will it be because of a higher power or entity by the name of “God” or “Jesus”? According to people like Simon bar Giora and Anne Minard the world should have end ages ago. People have been saying the world was going to end since 66 CE.
“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place … Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him” (Revelation 1:1,7).
Let’s start with the ancient biblical version of The End of Time. The Book of Revelations/ The Apocalypse talk about how John described his vision

These seven signs will all occur before his return to plant earth, because at the point “Jesus” would be tired of everyone sinning and disobeying him . The first sign (Revelation 6:1-2) represents widespread deception by a false Christianity that began in the days of the apostles (Matthew 24:4 – 5). The second sign (Revelation 6:3-4) refers to the increasing devastation caused by war as the end approaches (Matthew 24:6-7). The third sign (Revelation 6:5-6) represents increasing hunger and famines (Matthew 24:7). Other consequences of war and famine are represented by the fourth sign (Revelation 6:7-8)—such things as disease, plagues and civil unrest that kill many people (Matthew 24:7). The fifth sign (Revelation 6:9-11) brings us directly to the time of the end. It acknowledges the past persecution and martyrdom of God’s servants and announces they will have to wait “a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed,” before God avenges their deaths. The six sign describes how “powers of the heavens will be shaken” (Matthew 24:29) after the end-time tribulation and martyrdom of the saints has begun but before God’s wrath is unleashed in “the day of the Lord” (Joel 2:31). Finally, the seventh sign is started (Revelation 8) and It describes seven other aspects of end-time events, each

We’ve seen this, what’s the word again?’ ‘Apocalypse.’ ‘Yes, apocalypse. We’ve had that over and over. But we always survived.
Rick Moody’s, The Apocalypse Commentary of Bob Paisner is hardly an academic paper. The narrator, here a forthcoming graduate, traces his own experiences in college in the order of the Revelation of St. John. By random inclusion of parenthetical documentation of biblical scripture; and allusion to key apocalyptic figures, concepts, and events throughout the plot; Moody created a parallel between his life and the prophecy of John recorded in the book of Revelation. He marks each instance as a new section, labeled by a significant component of Revelation, in chronological order. Moody does little to expand upon or explain the prophecies of John beyond how he perceived them to be happening in his own life.
Armageddon- Armageddon refers to either a location where the the end of the world will occur or simply the world ending in general. This ending of the world could be symbolic or literal. The terms originates from the Bible’s Book of
The book of Revelation primarily concerns the Second Coming of Christ and the last days. His Second Coming will be as judge of the world, unlike His first coming when He came to die for man's sin. Several hundred years before the Lord came to earth to die on the cross,
For all the sociopolitical impact that the Bible has had on humanity across the centuries, many aspects of the narratives included within the texts are inaccessible to the modern audience, who are disconnected from the context necessary for true understanding of the stories. There is an element of interpretation and hypothesis when attempting to comprehend the bible from a thousand-year distant perspective. What makes Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens so effective is that it takes the iconic imagery of Revelations and translates it into a modern perspective to properly convey the pathos and moral as it would have affected the reader at the time it was written. Both are powerful stories of the fall of humanity, the death of the
Their understanding of eschatology was no exception. Schmidt asserts that several Persian myths and believes had found their way into the understanding and thoughts of Israel’s view of God and His dealings with nations and the world as a whole. Among these, the idea that probably originated in Persia and spread around the Ancient Near Eastern region was “the conception of a coming destruction of the world by fire, preceded by an accumulation of plagues, and followed by a renewal of the world and the return of the terrestrial paradise, with its innocence and blessedness, ruled over by a semi-divine being, the first man.” The prophets then applied this myth locally to the cosmic catastrophe and made concessions to the popular eschatology. This ancient mythical material was utilized by the apocalyptic seers, and fresh accessions from abroad made it possible for them to rear a more elaborate

Written in a culture divergent and foreign to modern audiences, the Book of Revelation is a challenging text to interpret. With rich symbolism and visions, which were intrinsic to the first hearers, this book is classified under the label of an Apocalypse. Apocalyptic literature, often ornamented with intricate visions, symbolism and numerology, is a classification of cataclysmic Jewish writings which incorporate impressions of heaven. The term Apocalypse is translated into ‘revelation’ or ‘unveiling’ (Keener 31). Composed of numerous allusion to the Old Testament, the Book of Revelation was originally sent to the seven churches in Asia Minor to be read in the context of liturgy concerning the imminent future (Filho, 214).
To make sure that believers are in no doubt as to this most climactic day, John the Beloved declares this: “For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty” (John 16:14; emphasis added). We can be absolutely sure, then, that Armageddon is a place where armies of the world will gather to prepare for battle, coordinate strategy, regroup into the various commands, and possibly set up their communication and control headquarters. Like all modern warfare, the commanders like to hide away in bunkers, far from the field of battle, and send their minions to do the fighting and the dying, but this time God has a surprise
As stated above, apocalyptic literature is concerned with the heavenly realm and the past, as well as featuring a ’restlessness with the imperfections of the present and…quest for a new and total solution to the human problem’. Both the apocalyptic visions of Daniel 7-12, and in the preceding six paraenetical chapters deal particularly with the supernatural and the future. The overall focus is the judgement of God toward the enemy, and the hope of his future kingdom.
