My experience in English 1010 was great. My writing skills were very poor at the beginning of the semester. I did not know how to write correct sentence structure. I had great difficulties making my sentences flow smoothly and clearly. I was not able to edit a paragraph for mistakes in grammar, punctuation, and spelling. I also had a problem in balancing the words in a pair, so that they have the same kind of structure, this will make a sentence clearly and easy to read. Parallel sentences that follow read more smoothly than the nonparallel ones. I have a great problem putting matching words and ideas into matching structures. Some of my sentences were fragments with incomplete phrases. English 1010 class helped to improve and change my level of writing. The grade that I think to earn in Eng 1010 is an A. I practiced writing more frequently by keeping a daily journal. The journal helped to make writing a familiar part of my life and served as a continuing source of ideas for papers. I also wrote many helpful and important essays in …show more content…
I learned how to formulate a restricted, unified, and precise thesis statement. I am now able to organize essay content into introduction, body and conclusion paragraphs. I also learned how to construct and organize unified, coherent, and well-developed paragraphs. I am able to apply grammar and usage rules correctly and develop clear, concise sentences. I learned about parallelism, run-on, comma splices and sentences. I also learned about the end punctuation, the comma, parentheses and quotation marks. I am able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of plagiarism by correctly summarizing, quoting, paraphrasing, citing, and acknowledging the sources through MLA/APA documentation. I was able to organize my thoughts effectively, and pose thoughtful arguments and effectively support my argument with a strong introduction and well-rounded
So far, the biggest thing that I have learned in English 1101 is the small things that I can do to improve my writing. Fixing small grammatical errors, such as a misplaced comma, can really improve the way that my writing looks and improve it. When it comes to learning about myself and what works best for me when writing, I’ve found that I do my best writing when I have facts and examples I can use to back up what I am saying. While I did well on the Literacy Narrative, I felt like my writing was actually better on the Evaluation Essay that we did. For the Literacy Narrative I was trying to think of exact quotes and paraphrase a situation that happened to me years ago, so the details may have been fuzzy to me.
I was able to use and apply those skills when it came time to write my research paper for my Psychology class. Recognizing
I began WRTG 101 this semester with minimal writing skills, and after numerous writing assignments and exercises I believe that I am now on my way to
I as a writer would keep on working by going back and analyzing writing assignments. The semester in English 1101 I have had the privilege to learn the main points of the writing processes. Furthermore what helped me get through the
Since my early days of learning, I used to enjoy the writing of all kinds from creative, essay, information among others although I often struggled to do it. I took English in my first semester of college and it made me feel very excited. However, at the back of my mind, I knew the assignments will be tough but they were generally interesting and the topics were engaging. The semester had been quite busy and it was characterized with a lot of assignments such as, essays, discussions as well as research project among others. Generally, all experience of learning was beneficial despite the challenges that I faced along the way.
I have improved vastly in certain areas of the class, such as constructing drafts, learning MLA documentation, and becoming familiar with my audience. I deserve to pass English 1121 because I have fulfilled all of the learning outcomes required for the course. My writing skills have improved enormously in this class. I have learned the importance of writing several drafts. Creating a rough draft and then simply changing a few things would then produce a poorly written paper.
ENC 1102 was a challenging course I had to overcome. As I was walking into class day by day, I learned and picked up something new each day. I considered myself a low-skilled writer, but after this class I can say I’ve improved my writing techniques tremendously. Although this class didn’t teach me everything I wished, this course did teach me how to research, how to write a thesis statement, and open/closed form essays, which I would carry throughout my career.
I never thought I could handle you being away from me. It has been exactly 11 months and two days since you have left me on this Earth. I am doing well with my life right now. I’m finally a senior and I have a job. I have been doing fine in school, but I know for sure what you would say, “You can always do better”.
Before coming into VU Composition, I was in AP Language/Composition. At the end of AP Language, I felt that I had strayed away from who I was as a writer because of the timed writing atmosphere. I was often worried about finishing the essay rather than the details and the overall content. After completing this semester of VU Composition, I definitely feel that I have returned to my writing abilities prior to AP Language and have been able to better understand the grammar concepts that go in to writing a well-rounded essay. Overall, I have definitely seen improvement from my Literary Narrative Essay to my argument essay.
Writing in my high school English classes never really came to tough to me. There was always a ton of time to work on each essay or prompt. I also had some very good teachers, which I am sure helped out tremendously. As for what the writing was actually about, we had many different options. Sure they were had specific length and grammar requirements on each paper, but we always had many different routes to take when it came to how we wrote.
I was never confident in my academic writing, in fact I only knew so little. I didn’t know where I stood or how I could progress but now I do. I certainly feel a significant improvement in my growth as a writer because of this course, even in such a brief period of time. I have been able to graze the surface of a few of the course goals, but I am aware that there is still a massive amount of room to grow and learn.
Other than that, the class has not greatly affected my english. I write for fun in my spare time, so I already knew what I was doing. The major problem I have with my writing is swapping back and forth between past and present tense. Since this semester focused mainly on the more basic grammar points, it has helped me
Learning new skills in writing has assisted in so many over ways than just writing for school, it has helped in my career. Writing is such a beneficial trait to hold. I plan to improve day by day. I have so many opportunities available and plan to use to my full
There are other areas in my writing that I have improved on. I have improved on my grammar, verb constructions, use of verb tenses and organizational skills to make my writing flow better when reading. My overall progress in completing this ten weeks course was wonderful. Every steps and skills I learned in this English class will help me to improve on my writing skills in my other classes and will also help me in my future
We spent a lot of time doing personal reflections or questions that were open-ended, so instead of feeling like my writing had to be what was expected of me, I was able to just write freely. Thus, I learned how to use sources to support my opinions. Even grade wise, English class went from one of my more frustrating classes where I had no idea what I was doing, to being one of my
