There are many questions evolving around epistemology. The more common questions ask: do we have any knowledge? If so, how? To this day there is no exact and certain answer. Everyone must have questioned at least once in their lives, that how has knowledge come to be? Many things are taught to children from a young age, schools have a curriculum to follow, but how do we know if it is right? There are over dozens of questions that can be asked. Epistemology is intriguing and very interesting because it is so controversial. His epistemology is a proper balance of both empiricism and rationalism. He agrees with empiricism that knowledge is originated from experience. On the other hand, he agrees with rationalism by stating that knowledge comes from reason. He found an issue believed the two theories separately, but when some parts are combined Kant produces a new theory. Kant altercates that two sorts of knowledge exist. Some knowledge is acquired from experience and the other is a priori. This is known as the Kantian compromise. The arguments for this theory are the following:

“The mind of the knower makes an active contribution to experience of objects before us” (McCormick). There cannot be knowledge beyond the empirical. Kant believes it is possible because every cause has an effect and the knowledge gathered by reasoning. P2 is correct because math and science give general knowledge about the world because it has been taught and instilled in individuals how it all works, for the most part. It shapes the view of a person and gives a deeper insight about the world. Science and math are a priori. The research’s conducted on these from before, help shape the future. P3 is correct because empiricists see the mind as an absorber of information, Kant disagrees and says that the mind shapes experiences into objects that an individual knows a priori. Scientists take the unknown and make it known. The audience will better understand the scientific method if it seems logical. Including examples of Einstein, accepting scientific theories, and designing experiments show that the basis of Barry’s argument is factual. “Einstein refused to accept his own theory until his predictions were tested,” showing even the best of the best scientists study with uncertainty. Barry’s appeal to logos helps characterize the intellectual side of science.
After all the reading and carefully thinking about what Mr. Lasken had requested from his physician it left me with the decision that Dr. Brody should not grant Mr. Lasken request to help end his life. In my discussion, I spoke about the Kantian Ethics and how it applies to the dilemma Dr. Brody was up against. To help end someone’s life purposely, regardless of their involvement, should not be done in the hands of someone else nor should anyone be placed in that situation. I considered both views, and found no favor into helping Mr. Lasken end his life and would be wrong on Dr. Brody behalf. Another contention in defence of capital punishment is that the administration spares money by executing killers as opposed to supporting them in jail to the detriment of the group. So while the criminal is clearly not upbeat being detained forever, the satisfaction of the group is additionally reduced on the grounds that funds that could some way or another be allotted to education or public health are utilized for lodging the criminal. All in all, the utilitarian would advocate for capital punishment if the sacrifice of one criminal would produce more prominent bliss to the society as a whole. As Barry analysis the scientific process, he says that the unknown must be made into a tool, even against one’s own ideas and beliefs. When it comes to the second epistemological question, rationalist believe that reason alone is the only way to find true knowledge. Lawhead uses the example of mathematics and logic to describe that we come to conclusions by means of reason.(192).
Immanuel Kant’s moral theory differs greatly from the other theories we have learned about, especially Mill’s view of utilitarianism. Utilitarianism is based on the consequences of actions, while Kantian Ethics focuses on the intentions a person has before they act, and if they are fulfilling their duty as a person when acting. Kant explains his theory by providing examples of different people who are all doing the same action, but for different reasons. He discusses a store owner who charges everyone equal prices and explains that this only has moral worth if he is acting from duty, meaning he does this because it is what is right. The act is not moral if he acts in accordance with duty, or because he is worried about his reputation or business.
In mathematics the knowledge we obtain is justified with reason that have straightforward theories and laws. In natural science on the other hand the information we collect is firstly obtained with observations which can be perceived in the wrong manner and then carried out wrong after that, in the natural world things are always changing therefore the results we get now won’t necessarily be correct one hundred years down the line therefore the knowledge we have now of the natural sciences is correct until proven wrong. Knowledge is trustworthy in most of our subjects at school but we can never know if the information we are receiving is 100% accurate or not because in the future we may learn that the information we have is
