Justin Barragan ERWC P. 5 Mrs. Scharf 11 April 2017 Integrity The foundation of the house is what will set the course for the piece that follows. The groundwork that my parents and ancestors have laid out for me to follow and guide me onto the right path. On both sides of my family, the major cornerstones are to serve and or give back to your country. Every male in my family in the past century has been involved in the military or served the country to assist those who serve. My dad’s father fought in the Korean War, while my father himself had fought in the Vietnam War. After the military, my father continued his service to his country in a different form. He became a California Highway Patrol Officer. My mother’s grandfather had volunteered …show more content…
To me it represents sports. My life has always and will always be surrounded by sports. Ever since I could walk, I have been on a field, in a court, or in a gym. I have played multiple sports throughout my life, but lacrosse and football have been the most influential. My family has always been huge advocates around the idea of playing sports. Once I was of the appropriate age to start playing, my family had put me in Pop Warner Football and I had instantly fallen in love with the sport. At the time, I had dreamed of becoming an NFL football player. That had all changed, when my brother came home from high school one day with a stick in his and a new sport called lacrosse. He told me it was basically football with a stick. The moment I heard that and I held the stick in my hand, I was hooked. I played with that stick everyday my brother came home with it. My family saw the passion in my eyes the day I was able to step on the field and play. The stick became a part of me. The sport had completely change my life. As I grew older, I came to the realization that sports were not just a game, they with life lessons. Without sports, I would not have been in the same place I am today. They have taught me the importance of teamwork, attitude, and perseverance. In almost every sport, a team is a family and with them you are nothing. You learn to rely on the person …show more content…
It is what has makes me who I am and what I am about. My family has always had religion. When I was young, one of the first lessons my father had taught us was that, “if someone has no faith or nothing to believe in then what is the point of continuing your journey.” I was born and raised in a Catholic household. As a child, attending a Catholic private school, St. Jeanne de Lestonnac School, was somewhat confusing. I did not understand at first what or whom we were praying for or to, but all I knew was that it made me feel good in the end. As time went on, I finally had found the purpose behind all of this. That faith is an aid to help shape and heal someone’s life. Through my time at St. Jeanne’s, my faith only grew stronger as I had learned more and more, but it had never closed my way of thinking. Instead, it had expanded my views of the world. Although I am a Catholic, I am very open to other beliefs and in a way, I have shaped it into my own beliefs. For instance, I believe that all religions are tied together in a way. I also believe that no matter who you are or where you come from, God has a plan for you and will try to guide you down the path of righteousness. However, some may ignore and fall away from the path. I think that without my faith and its teachings I would be lost and have failed to continue on with my journey. No matter what happens, I will always that God and try to do what’s best. It is through this that faith has given me
The role of faith in people’s personal journey can be seen as multifaceted. Ultimately, it depends on what one chooses to put faith into. If we are being honest, growing up, faith was not a big part of my home life. My family is Catholic, and I was baptized Catholic- but outside of that, we never practiced our faith.
My Dad would toss it to me in the living room and try to teach his one-to-two-year-old child to hit. But I wasn’t really put into the game till I was four years old. Baseball has impacted my life more than anything I have lived through. I believe baseball is more than a sport; it is a teacher. I am now nineteen years old playing most boys dream.
Why did you pick the one sport that takes 4 hours to play and makes you wake up to play super early”. It was a rough summer, full of frustration, because I had no idea why I was trying so hard, knowing there was no way on earth I was even going to make the JV team. Beside my thoughts, I kept going and trying my hardest all the way until the day of
As you run down the field cradling the lacrosse ball in your stick, it feels like every other girl is barreling toward you at full speed. There is no better feeling, though, than to shoot the ball and watch it sail past the goalie into the net. Growing up in Baltimore, lacrosse is practically a religion. However, I never really felt any interest in lacrosse. In the Spring of my junior year, one of my friends begged me to try out for my high school’s lacrosse team.
My thoughts about religion have changed over the years as it tends to do when you get older. I was indoctrinated into the Catholic Church when I was a child and stayed with the church until early adulthood. I then began reassessing organized religion and found that it was not what I was looking for. Today there is a religious movement that appears to be taking the world by storm and it’s called the prosperity gospel. People today want more wealth, love and better health and they want it now.
Lacrosse has always been a fascinating sport but it never has been one of the top sports like baseball, football, or basketball. I chose this topic because there is so many interesting facts about the sport, for example, why was this sport created and how has it changed the lives of many people. For example, lacrosse was created by the Native North Americans back in the 1630’s. Some topics that will be talked about in this essay are how do you play the game, how the game has changed overtime, and some general history about the game. Lacrosse originated as a tribal game and as a method for Native Americans to entertain themselves.
Religion can provide a sense of direction and purpose, offering a moral compass to those who may have lost their way. Additionally, religion can serve as a coping mechanism for
Throughout history, faith has played a tremendous amount of role in the formation of many societies and their way of life. For many years faith has been used as fuel, motivation and inspiration to many people, with eager and passion for pursuing and fighting for the happiness and freedom for their lives and their loved ones. American history is a great example, in which it is filled with memorable events where people fought for their lives and their freedom hoping for the revolutionary change in the nation. In this process many people have lost their lives or the lives of their loved ones, however, they never lost their faith in their religion because a loving relationship with god can be a normal part of life, and others who have the same
Beliefs seem to be the core of all the unfortunate things going on in the world today. Many extremists try to force their religion on others with violence, and it is becoming a problem. Many people tend to use religion to their advantage to gain power. On the other hand religion can be used to help individuals through hard times and to gain salvation. Overall, the positive aspects of religion outweigh the negative aspects.
Not soldiers but women and children, the old and the sick. Your father, he grew up this way. He saw this happen to his own family… Your father came here, as an orphan, but he never forgot who he was, where he came from. Never forgot about his home.”
Sports, in general, are very important for a number of reasons. Sports can keep you physically and mentally fit at all ages. It also builds relationships and teamwork skills. Lacrosse is an excellent
What I already know: Lacrosse has been around for decades, played by those who look for a real sport. It’s been said to be the fastest game on two feet, which is no understatement. It requires strength, endurance, and heart to be able to play the game of lacrosse. All these reasons are why I love to play lacrosse and why it has been my favorite sport for years. I can remember when I first started back in second grade, I didn’t think about why I was playing, it was just another sport to me.
I quickly finished tying my shoe and hopped onto my purple mountain bike and we were off. Logan my brother who I love sometimes,Cassie My best friend, Easton Cassie’s brother,Sawyer Cassie’s brother, Mr. Wychers and I were going to ride our bikes through a trail off in the woods and go to Whistle stop and then cut through town and head to Houseman's. The sky was cloudy and the daylight was being blocked by a thick dark cloud, which looked a lot like a rain cloud. We started to cut through a dead cornfield, lifeless tall brown and crusty plants sat in a single spot and as the soft wind blew the once luscious herbs. I felt the dead greens slap me in the leg and burrs got stuck to my pant leg.
Because I am Mexican and live in a predominately Hispanic town, nearly everybody I know is Catholic. My friends, my teachers, and even my loved ones. It was difficult to explain to them that I did not share their beliefs. I was labeled and judged by many of those around me (which I found ironic considering Matthew 7:1). I began to feel pretty low, until I realized that our Lord Jesus was too judged and labeled and even humiliated for everyone to see.
In my younger years, I already remember my parents teaching me basic Catholic prayers and telling me stories or parables from the Bible. In addition, I spent my grade school and high school years in a Catholic school in Pasig. For ten years, we would pray before and after every subject and break time. Catholic retreats, recollections, seminars, and outreach events became a part of our student life, apart from having religion classes three times a week. In short, I grew up actively practicing the Catholic faith, with Jesus as the center and the role model of my life.
