HAITI Samuel chambers Introduction Haiti's main religion is Voodoo. When something happens in Haiti people go to there local Shaman(man) or Mambo (woman). Haiti may not look like much, but it is rich with history from voodoo shaman leading the slaves to revolution to the heat hot enough to kill. Haiti is interesting because of its Geography, weather, plants, animals, people and cultures. Landforms Haiti is a beautiful place with palm trees and beaches it is perfect for a holiday. Haiti has rivers running through it to all sides of Haiti and into the Caribbean and Atlantic sea. There are also mountains that separate Haiti. One of those is Massif De-la-nord an ancient mountain range with a city that has been around for a very long time. Arbonite and Pedernales are 2 of the biggest rivers in Haiti. Penderlas starts at runs along the border of Haiti and the Dominican republic and people from both sides go there to fish, drink and commute. Arbonite is the largest river with a discharge of 4,887 and creates the best rice growing place on Haiti. Each brought with them their native African traditional religion, what we have termed Voodoo. In the case of the Kongolese, they also had Catholic and French influences. Consequently Haiti was the home of a brand of Catholic-based Voodoo called “Haitian Voodoo” – which was practiced in the sugarcane fields of Haiti as the Dahomey and Kongolese people were melted together in a unique Creole setting. On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 earthquake hit the coast of Haiti along the capital of Port of Prince leaving the country in devastation and ruin, along with over 200,000 deaths. The country, already poverty ridden, faced many obstacles including families needing to provide the essential elements of food, water, and housing. Haiti, already known to be a poor nation, struggled further with economic issues along with the basic necessities of life. Haiti is known for its rich, wonderful coffee that is grown in the mountains and known to be its finest export. It has typically been sold or smuggled to the Dominican Republic, but with the devastation of the earthquake, Haiti is unable to export its product to other areas.
