I don’t really know why I was invited into National Honors Society, for I know I do well with grades but, my grades aren’t what define me. My actions are what define me. Who I am is someone who is always trying to be someone better morally. Someone who is trying to be smarter than they were the day before, even if it 's just a little.

Over the past three decades’ educational leadership has been in search of ways to increase student literacy in urban middle schools in the southeast sections of the District of Columbia. At Lampasas High School I show leadership in many ways, like volunteering to answer questions or be the example in class, being part of the National Honor Society, and being a student athlete. I am also in the Gear Up Leadership program at Lampasas High School, where I am pushed to set the best example for others, I am challenged to promote a college and career oriented future. I believe being a good role model is one of the best ways to show leadership. This past year I was chosen by staff at my school for demonstrating leadership, citizenship, and character in my school and my community, to attend American Legion Auxiliary Bluebonnet Girls State. Throughout my life, I have always felt a call to serve others. Whether in an athletic setting, academic classroom, or one of my many other pursuits, I often find myself taking on a leadership role. No matter what setting might be, I call upon certain leadership traits that have helped me be successful thus far in life. As a leader, I set goals that benefit the group in the long run while insuring that each individual reaches their full potential in best serving the group. I do this by making sure each person knows that they can contribute something beneficial to the group and that all of these persons can help in a way that utilizes their own talents.

That changed, however, when I joined my school’s theatre program as a set painter. I began there as a follower, too. 1. My philosophy of leadership is about collaboration and teamwork. Respecting and treating everyone the same, is key to supporting a good team atmosphere. I believe when a leader puts effort and care into assisting others, then their peers and followers will naturally want to support them. It is also important for a leader to recognize, that advocacy must never become so important that the critical elements of leadership are neglected (e.g. policy enforcement, command support, etc...).

Competencies Competency is the ability to accomplish efficiently certain tasks. In Prince Mohammad University, there are six basic core competencies: communication, critical thinking, leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and technology. I have developed these competencies which have been improved in class work. I chose two artifacts from my class work for every competency. Communication Competency Communication competence is the ability to interact with others by understanding information as well as being able to send accurate, clear, comprehensive, coherent, expert, effective, and appropriate information.
