Kids these days. They go to school and do academic work plus they do extra things out of their day. These college athletes have a chance to be pro and all pro athletes get paid. Students who don’t get scholarships and have to pay their way into college, could be playing a college sport and earning their money back. If their good enough to be on a team they could have a chance to go big. Instead of going to college through the year, then going and working during summer, the athletes could enjoy the summer and have a little extra money to themselves. They would not have to get an additional job to work at. Despite all of this cash floating around, the players who make the organization work do not see any of this money. In fact, they are barred …show more content…
Players would fight for a starting spot and the starters are paid the most so it would increase the level of intensity. These players are also sacrificing their bodies in sports like football. If they get hurt they will have money to cover medical bills if they were to get injured. They would not be in debt when they grow older because they would have some money that the college pays them.
Student athletes should be paid because if you can fill a stadium with fans you can fill a University with paying students and star professors. These college athletes are bringing money to the university. Fans pay all around the world to come and watch them play. If these players weren’t here to play for the university, they would lose money because no players means no fans.
Another reason why they should be paid is because of apparel. If athletes were to be paid for only one reason, it is because the NCAA and universities capitalize on both the team’s success and the players’ status for its own financial gain through the sales of apparel and other merchandise. When universities sell jerseys and t-shirts with popular numbers on them, they are literally selling the personhood of the person whose number is on the
Paying College Athletes There are several reasons why college athletes should receive a form of payment. The athletes always seem to be practicing, which means that they are almost always busy, leaving little time for anything else. Additionally, they have to go to their classes and study in order to participate in that particular sport. In contrast, giving the athletes money could potentially be a bad idea. Some athletes might receive more because their sport may generate more money.
Are you a students-athlete in need of compensation from the sport you love? There is a possibility of getting this kind of money from playing certain levels in sports. Paying college athletes has been and always will be an ongoing argument. I divine that paying these athletes will help students financial futures, help the costs of abrasions to the students themselves, and bring in prodigious amounts of money. Initially, paying college athletes will help them create a sense of financial awareness.
But, on the other hand, people believe that college athletes have the right to be paid. They should get paid in some form, to help them financially, to pay their bills whether it be
Katie Hill Mrs. Gallos English 3 Honors 20 March, 2018 Should Athletes Be Paid? College athletes in the United States have been struggling with the fact that their job allows them to work just as many hours a week than a regular job does, but they do not receive any income from it. This conflict amongst athletes has been around since the 1980’s and continues to be of issue to most college athletes today. Supporters say that college athletes are the one’s out their making all the money for all the coaches and universities and it is unfair that the player’s do not receive any of the income; whereas, non-supporters say that college athletes get their stay at the colleges paid for along with many other privileges that normal college students do not receive, therefore, there is no unfairness.
Getting paid in college would help teach these players some responsibility before they are rewarded a big NFL/NBA contract. Players could make just enough money to be forced to make choices that can pave the way for more responsible decision making when the financial stakes become high. Many players will learn the value of money and the responsibility that comes from holding down a job. College football player’s should get paid to play because these players put themselves at risk for injury, college football is a job, not p.e, and it will help players adjust to college socially and economically. Colleges and the NCAA can make money selling jerseys and other souvenirs that might include the likeness of players, yet the actual players never receive a
“Turning collegiate sports into play for significant pay, however, is fraught with dangers for the student athlete and it is distracting to academics and the reasons to play sports for one’s school” (Scott Foulklard, Harrisburg University). This idea being approved would confuse anyone involved even the athletes. This will happen because everyone will forget the reason to play for a college team. Everyone will be focusing on the money aspect while forgetting what college sports really is. Compensating a student athlete would cause
Student athletes should not get paid because the full-ride scholarships that usually pay for you to go to the university pays for your entire education at the university. Jason Whitlock wrote about college athletes not being paid on Gale Opposing Viewpoints. “We need to stress to them that the educational opportunity they have been afforded is more valuable than the ‘pocket money’ an Ed Martin can provide.” Also, if the player is good enough they could be drafted or go professionally to a pro team in whatever sport that they are decent in. Then again, if we pay these collegiate athletes while receiving scholarship money, “the NCAA admits that a ‘full scholarship’ does not cover the basic necessities for a student-athlete.
College athletes need to be able to have a good paying job but if they're to busy with sports they might have to give something up. They shouldn't have to give up something they love after working so hard towards it. Even though it will cost more money for the school, In my opinion this could help the school because more people will want to go. If more and more people know that the athletes get paid more students will attend the school. This could help the school get more money for the school even though they are now paying their athletes.
College athletes deserve to be paid because they are the only ones not being paid in the college sports industry. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) generates eleven billion dollars annually, some of which could, and should go to college athletes. “USA Today reported last year just how much money the top 10 coaches in college football made. Nick Saban from Alabama topped the list earning roughly $5.5 million in 2013 alone” (Seibold). The coaches are making millions of dollars and the players aren’t.
College athletes take many risks and make personal sacrifices in order to bring in revenue for their school, for this reason, they should be paid employees. The first reason in why college athletes should be paid is that college athletes take many risks. Depending on the scholarship, if an athlete is injured and unable to play they can lose their
Taking a look at the average college student, should they be paid for what they are studying? Probably not. Then why should college athletes be paid? They shouldn 't get paid just because of their athletic ability. They shouldn 't be paid because they are students, not professionals.
Besides, it is too hard to find a fair way to pay these athletes and they are practically being paid through the scholarships they receive. Which gives them a great education for free while playing the sport they grew up loving. Not to mention, there is something about watching young people play a game and try their hardest to be the best they can be, without having the influence of money to drive them. With all of these things considered, college athletes should not be paid to play college
Why college athletes should be paid. College athletes should be getting paid because they are putting in so much time on their sport they spend an average of 43.3 hours per week dedicated to their sport. College athletes spend around 43.3 hours on just their sport, if they are spending that much time on sports how are they going to get money. A college student has to go to class and has to have some income of money if college athletes don't have time for a job it's going to be hard to get money for food and college. College athletes need to get paid so they can pay for college.
For example, if it wasn’t for basketball players, Gonzaga University would need to spend a lot more money on building a name recognition to students not located on the West. Everyone has their own opinion, but mine is that college athletes should be paid. The amount of time they put into their sport, the amount of money everyone else is making off of them, and their overall importance to the school are only three of a myriad of reasons why they should be paid. These athletes are not only students, but employees to their universities. They are a core member of many university’s marketing team.
Are they students or employees? They spend more time with the sport than in school. Student athletes should be acknowledged for their performances. College athletes should be paid to play because they bring money into the school, advertisement, and they perform the same tasks of pros. College kids bring in thousands of dollars every game day.
