I think college athletes should get paid while they’re still in college.
College athletes should get paid because they play for that school, unheeding the dangers of getting hurt. Kevin Ware from Louisville broke his leg in a game. Luckily, he came back from the injury, but others might not be that lucky. Devon Walker, safety for Tulane University, was playing Tulsa University when he hit a player, causing him to be paralyzed. He knew he could get hurt, but he didn’t care because he trusted Tulane would help him out if he did get hurt, and they did. But if they paid him, he wouldn’t have to trust them that they would help. How is he gonna get a job now that he can’t move? His whole family has to help him throughout his life, which probably isn’t what Mr. Walker wants.
NCAA should pay college athletes because without the Athletics program at every university, the schools would lose millions of dollars. Alabama University makes $81,993,762 just from football. The University makes $77,010,500 from non-athletic students. The football program makes more money than the actual university! Without the

A bunch of celebrities aren’t good with money, so they get brokers to tell them how to invest their money. Shaquille O’Neal, former NBA player, future hall of famer, spent his first million dollars 30 minutes after getting it. 30 minutes! He got a banker and his banker told him to return almost every expensive thing that he can unless he wanted to be one of the greatest NBA players in history, only to retire being broke. So Shaquille went back to college, got his degree, and now is very wealthy. Point is, is that he almost went broke just after entering the NBA, like most players. 60% of NBA players go broke after 5 years of being in the NBA. Another example, Lawrence Taylor, one of the NFL’s greatest linebackers, filed for bankruptcy just 4 years after
When collegiate sports first started they made back then does not compare to how much they make The NCAA and Universities make so much money because of the athetlets that come to their programs. The NCAA and college sports is a multi-billion dollar industry thanks to college athletes. The NCAA makes roughly about 1 billion per year since 2006 (Kirshner. 2018). Most of their money comes from television coverage and marketing campaigns. The rest comes from ticket sales and student fees.
Most college players struggle with this problem. They feel the need to find a way to earn money but if they get paid or a receive a stipend then that would help prevent this problem. Many players rely on college football in the hopes of going to the NFL to help their families because they come from financially unstable background so they are trying to find a way to provide for their family. Think about it even though some players receive scholarship when they go back home they have no stable income, so they should at least receive something to help their families. In “Should College Athletes be paid?”
He only left because his family was “very poor” and knew he could make a lot of money in the NBA. Williams regards leaving college as a “business decision” for his family. Williams
Statistically showing, at least 100,000 college football players get hurt yearly. College football player’s should get paid to play because these players put themselves at risk for injury, college football is a job, not p.e, and it will help players adjust to college socially and economically. Colleges and the NCAA can make money selling jerseys and other souvenirs that might include the likeness of players, yet the actual players never receive a cent. Every time a football player steps onto the field, they’re risking themselves for injury.
“Turning collegiate sports into play for significant pay, however, is fraught with dangers for the student athlete and it is distracting to academics and the reasons to play sports for one’s school” (Scott Foulklard, Harrisburg University). This idea being approved would confuse anyone involved even the athletes. This will happen because everyone will forget the reason to play for a college team. Everyone will be focusing on the money aspect while forgetting what college sports really is. Compensating a student athlete would cause
Should College Football Players be Paid This question is a very controversial question in today's day and age. I personally believe that college players should not get payed. College is a privilege for most athletes and it's not required they stay there. I think that college should be looked up as educational first and sports second.
College athletes should be paid because they put in many hours of practicing, they have to pay for living, and they cannot get a job. College athletes should be paid because they put in many hours of practicing. Some articles have said that athletes spend up to 40 hours a week in the gym, or practicing. Since the athletes are constantly working out they don't have time to make money. Without any money they are unable to buy extra food.
There is a controversy of whether college athletes should get paid or not? Some say that many people make money off of them by selling jerseys, doing ads, and etc. So they should at least make some money for other people using them. On the other hand, people say that they already have a full ride scholarship why do they need to get paid or what if smaller schools can’t pay them? College athletes should get paid because people make money off them, some sport careers don 't last long, and getting payed large amount of money teaches financial responsibility.
Fan Rita from Stanly Columbia believes, “A stipend could work since a lot of kids don't have enough money. It doesn't go very far. I can't see how it would damage college sports if the university controlled the money. At some point the NCAA needs to revisit and re-evaluate this." (Whiteside, 2004).This player can barely afford college , how are they supposed to get money to eat or for other expansive they have to deal
The money comes from T.V. contracts, merch sales, season pass ticket sales, and sponsorships, however college students don't get anything from that. College athletes put a lot of hard work and time into their sports and bring in money to the school in the ESPN article on if college athletes should be paid, Deion Sanders said “College athletes are workers” (Page 1.) This is important because it shows that these sports are like jobs to these students and they are making money for a company just to not get a penny of it. In addition, this is unfair to athletes who are instrumental in generating revenue, and they should be entitled to a portion of it. According to a 2018 report by Forbes, “The University Of Alabama football team alone generated $111 million dollars in revenue for the University; however the athletes who helped generate their revenue did not receive any compensation beyond their scholarship.”
College athletes put in a lot of time, effort, and work into the sport they’ve played since they were young, but they aren’t getting paid for it. These student athletes deserve to be paid because they put in countless hours of hard work and balance sports with school work. The first reason athletes in college do deserve to be compensated is because they don 't have time to fit in work with a school and athletic schedule. College athletes don’t have time to get a real job. Student athletes have a very busy schedule, they don’t have time to fit in a job.
According to Cork Gaines, “there are now 20 schools that make at least $100 million in sports”. This fact is supported by Figure C (Revenue* of college football teams in 2014 (in million U.S.
Taking a look at the average college student, should they be paid for what they are studying? Probably not. Then why should college athletes be paid? They shouldn 't get paid just because of their athletic ability. They shouldn 't be paid because they are students, not professionals.
Although college athletes may be on a scholarship that is paying for their education, they also work countless hours on their craft and make millions for their
Should college athletes be paid? I think they should. I found three main reason why other people and myself think that college athletes deserve pay. One, you can just pay the sports that produce the most revenue. Two, these student athletes put in lots of work and even sometimes have to miss class to go to the sports event.
