Players could make just enough money to be forced to make choices that can pave the way for more responsible decision making when the financial stakes become high. College sports collect millions of dollars each year:Approximately around 40 million dollars a year, states and universities make. You would think that the amount of money that is made would get split between the franchises ,students and schools but unfortunately the students that play receive none of it. Theres many discussions on if college athletes should or should not get paid and because they already receive scholarships then they shouldn 't get paid. Scholarships in itself is “around 25,000-30,000 per year for example a student who 's division 1 thats over 100,000 for 4 years of college(Hartnett 1)”. So if college athletes would start getting paid then they shouldn 't get any scholarships and they would just have to pay for it with the money they are receiving.

There is a controversy of whether college athletes should get paid or not? Some say that many people make money off of them by selling jerseys, doing ads, and etc. So they should at least make some money for other people using them. On the other hand, people say that they already have a full ride scholarship why do they need to get paid or what if smaller schools can’t pay them? College athletes should get paid because people make money off them, some sport careers don 't last long, and getting payed large amount of money teaches financial responsibility.

College is a place for students to obtain a college degree and help them to get ahead on their “real world” careers. Athletic departments in college have become huge money incomes in the past ten years; college football and basketball are even shown on the television. This has resulted in many believing these athletes deserve to be paid for their contribution to the schools athletic income. However athletes in college are given the opportunity to play the sport that they love as well as receive a top education. For some players a $20,000+ per year tuition is not enough, they want to be paid with more than just a scholarship.

College athletes put in a lot of time, effort, and work into the sport they’ve played since they were young, but they aren’t getting paid for it. These student athletes deserve to be paid because they put in countless hours of hard work and balance sports with school work. The first reason athletes in college do deserve to be compensated is because they don 't have time to fit in work with a school and athletic schedule. The athletes don’t know how to handle all this money; so by having college athletes it helps them with handling their money. It teaches them money management at a young age. Others may say that college athletes shouldn’t get paid because they are given scholarships. This is not for kids who are going to community college or anything.

Division I Athletes Should Be Paid In college there can be a wide of activities to enjoy. Social and academic clubs, fraternities and sororities however, there is one activity very popular in universities that not only gives students a sense of unity and pride as they cheer for their home team but generates millions of dollars in revenue for the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association): college sport teams. With the popularity of college sports and the vast amount of revenue colleges are generating from these sports an argument about whether these college athletes should be given a salary has begun to surface. Tracey M DiLascio, a graduate of Boston University school of Law and a former judicial clerk in the New Jersey Superior Court, states “The NCAA estimated revenue in 2014 was nearly $1 billion, 80 to 90 percent which came from the Men’s division 1 basketball tournament” (3).

For example, if it wasn’t for basketball players, Gonzaga University would need to spend a lot more money on building a name recognition to students not located on the West. Everyone has their own opinion, but mine is that college athletes should be paid. The amount of time they put into their sport, the amount of money everyone else is making off of them, and their overall importance to the school are only three of a myriad of reasons why they should be paid. These athletes are not only students, but employees to their universities. They are a core member of many university’s marketing team.
