Hustlin and not losing focus are qualities of good sportsmanship. In this inspirational essay, we see a coach shifting the focus on how it is good to have a lot of sportsmanship. I agree with Mike Matheny that if you want to be a good baseball player, you need good sportsmanship.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is an organization that is responsible for the health and long-term success of their collegiate athletes. The NCAA is comprised of 1,121 colleges and 99 voting athletic conferences. Although the NCAA is very big and has the attention of a ton of people, this does not stop the organization of committing unethical practices. People have influences and role models in life, typically a family member. On occasion, for athletes, coaches are a major influence. Throughout my career as an athlete, many coaches have come and gone and have been loved and hated, but none has had a greater impact than Jarica Martarano, my softball coach since sophomore year. She was born on August 24, 1992, she grew up on sports, including basketball, volleyball, softball, and soccer. She only played soccer for a year because she got in trouble for pushing a girl so she did not want to play again.

Coaches are not simply caretakers of players, but of people, and therefore hold a moral and legal duty to create a safe environment of play, in order to prevent, and protect their athletes from serious head trauma, or other sports related injuries. This organization mandates each coach not incorporate personal values, beliefs, religion into sessions. The organization have every coach who joins pledge to uphold their ethical principles and code of ethics. I thought this was an “attention getter” ethics and morals play a significant role in coaching. They provide blogs for coaches and webinars to enhance skills and techniques.

It is technically the parents job to teach their kids what is right and wrong. It’s their job to keep them on the right path in life. Athletes are good for setting an example to the kids. Kids should look to their parents as role models, but the problem is that some children may have absent parents in their lives. This is why they look up to athletes, because they are all they have to look to (Steinberg).

In conclusion, ethics in sport adversely affects a sport managers career. Some prominent ethical issues that sport management professionals deal with in the 21st century include discrimination, athletes in the public eye and drug use. The treatment of every individual should be appropriate. Their race and gender should not be a factor in the determination of a role on a specific team. Also, athletes must uphold a professional reputation, in and away from their respective sport.
