When conducting research for a particular topic for an essay, it is imperative to select the proper resources to enhance a paper. After reading chapter six in Holdstein’s Who Says? The Writer’s Research, I became aware of my inadequate methods of finding, and subsequently utilizing resources. Tools that’s I have used in the past differed greatly than the methods presented in this chapter, and after carefully absorbing each page, I knew I needed to abandon some techniques and instead use more advanced, academic practices. “Different disciplines expect different kinds of sources and even expect certain types of conventions in writing that may differ from others’ expectations…As researchers make sense of the sources they have, categorize yours according to the conventions of your subject as primary or secondary sources” (Holdstein 87). Not only was this method of gathering sources entirely different from the methods I was familiar with, I never considered the demands of each discipline; that is, the way in which each type of resource varied by subject. Prior to discovering this method, the way in which I went about searching for and utilizing sources did not vary by discipline. I understand now by generalizing my sources by subject, I probably have created similar and monotonous papers, rather than essays that have exceeded the criteria and prompt for each
I had underestimated how time consuming research could take. I also struggled to find credible sources. It is also important to remember when conducting research one does not stray away from the main idea. Being a UC Merced student I am offered numerous resources and opportunities.
It was self-explanatory at first when determining what was needed, but initially I had issues in finding the articles due to the limited nature of the topic. What were more available were books, and with I looked at the author’s background and what validity they posed to the research being conducted. One of the biggest things I was looking for, was relevancy. It had to be relevant and fit my criteria in terms of what I needed for my research. What seemed to be the easiest part was the outline to help my assignment.
If we use many, then we have to explain how each of the sources are relevant or else it’s just an irrelevant source. They suggest we use sources we like, this way we are comfortable with it and are able to write upon
Being able to read text from those who devote their lives to changing and developing that field, makes it easier to trust. When a person reads an author’s work it is nice to know whether they take that article
For example, the history textbook, "HIST3" by Kevin M. Schultz would be considered a secondary source. There are many advantages to using secondary sources. The advantages for secondary sources are ease of access, low cost to acquire, helping the researcher to consider other perspectives, saving time, analyze the data and come up with new relevant conclusions or verify and confirm the results and can strengthen your own argument. According to Kevin M. Schultz in HIST3, "Some immigrant girls, driven by poverty and desperation, turned to prostitution" (316). In the West, majority of the women became prostitutes.

I will admit, this DQ question had me confused for quite some time before I started to grasp the basic concept of the three persuasive appeals of “Logos, Pathos, and Ethos”. I believe my problem was that I was over thinking it, which caused additional frustration and time to complete the assignment. In any event, here is my take of the three persuasive appeals: Ethos Ethos is one of the methods described by Aristotle to validate the author's creditability, charisma, and character. This is an important concept to use to verify that the material is written by a professional in a specifically designated field of their choice.

I learned that it is important to clearly state the points I plan to discuss in my thesis and use my sources to highlight my ideas or provide examples of counter arguments rather than focusing my essay around the sources. When integrating sources, I learned that it is important to clearly state your opinion and what the source does for my opinion. A good example of this is this excerpt from my Draft 2.2, “Laura Weiner provides a new stance and explains … This new take on women covering as an act of rebellion solidifies the concept that choosing to cover does not contradict feminism, while also providing the Muslim woman a feeling of strength and triumph.” I used my sources to provide the reader a new view on the issue, while solidifying my opinion.
By consulting theses sources, it would be beneficial because the library or online library can help limited ideas to the topic/book and give a short brief summary about it before clicking on it. The library has many information about almost every book so it will be a useful source. The reason why it would be convenient to look online for people’s essay is because it would be helpful to see what they think about the topic and compare but not using their idea or thought process into this research essay, but figured out why they thought of that particular idea and used the process of scheme from there on. By exploring the internet, it would help by discovering more certain answers to be revealed. In order for that to occur, people have to dig deeper to retrieve the data first.

To sort out the information you have to ask if the information in the text can help out the topic that you are writing about or further any already known information that you already have. I went through this checklist in my head, and chose a couple different sources. “How Monty Python Changed the World.” CNN, Cable News Network, CNN is a very consistent source of good information. And they seems to understand how to interview and question things correctly.
