In the book The Crucible Abigail Williams selfish crimes cause others to be blamed for her own witchcraft. Abigail has an affair with John Proctor, the husband of Elizabeth Proctor, causing tensions to rise between Abigail and Elizabeth. During act one Abigail is talking to John at his house and she was talking to him about what they did one night and how she believed he still loved her (Miller, 22). During Abigail and John’s conversation it showed how Abigail isn’t always a good person and she makes mistakes too. During The Crucible Abigail always tries to act innocent or if she's wrong bring others down with her.

Abigail Williams' remorseless behavior cruelly ended the lives of 19 in Salem. An example of this is when the girls are discovered in the woods,” Parris caught them dancing, with Tituba singing and one of the girls being naked ”(Miller,10-11). Once Abigail was caught, she desperately tried to conceal her actions of that night because Her option to kill his wife would reveal her affair with John Proctor and Have her accused of witchcraft. To deflect the blame from herself she accuses many of witchcraft. Abigail’s remorseless behavior caused deaths because the accused were arrested and many were hanged or died in the jail.

In The Crucible, Abigail accuses more than half the town of witchcraft to cover up her affair with a married man, John Proctor. She lies and accuses people to prevent being charged with attempted murder against Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor’s wife, because of jealousy. Abigail who is very similar to Joseph McCarthy, she starts to accuse people who share a glance towards her direction or even people that she dislikes or offended her in some way. The people of the town grow intimidated or fearful of her because she throws false accusations and evidence towards anyone who may have upset her. The play The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller uses an excessive amount of stage directions to establish the character of Abigail Williams. At the beginning of Act 1 when Abigail first enters, Abigail is described as a “strikingly beautiful girl with an endless capacity for dissembling.” Miller immediately established Abigail as a dishonest person because she is willing to lie to save her name in Salem. Another example, of Miller’s use of stage direction is when Parris and Abigail are arguing about her being discharged from Goody Proctor's service, Abigail spoke to Parris “with ill-concealed resentment.” The way Abigail spoke Parris shows that Abigail is short tempered and has a bitter personality.

Lies and Deceit Arthur Miller’s The Crucible reveals to the reader about lies and deceit in the small town of Salem. Abigail Williams, a 17 year old girl who lets her jealousy of Elizabeth Proctor turn her into this evil person and affect the lives of many. Several lies unfold from the actions of the two characters as the court questions them. The development of characters, setting, and plot are revealed through John Proctor’s growth. Miller reveals the central idea of lies and deceit in Abigail's actions throughout the play.

Hook: Lustful wretchedness consumed a young sinful girl, putting her in a state of delusion. This girl’s actions contributed to a mass hysteria that only she could have put a stop to. Exposition: The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller, is an analogy highlighting the mass hysteria of the Salem Witch Trials and the Red Scare. Thesis: The character, Abigail Williams, not only contributed to this madness but also had the ability to extinguish the hysteria but chose to feed into the idea of her being the person John Proctor would end up with. She vividly displayed signs of manipulation, menacingly actions, and conditions of derangement.

Gross corruption is when somebody is willing to procure anything out of greed or selfishness to gain money and power. One of many examples from “The Crucible” is Abigail Williams, Reverend Parris’s niece, she wants to be with John Proctor, but she is willing to anything to get rid of his wife, Elizabeth Proctor. Out of envy, Abigail accused Elizabeth of witchcraft, knowing that Goody Proctor would be executed. Envy is one of the toxins in our society today, and my assumption to get rid of envy is to praise each other, and be more grateful for what we possessed. Instead of bring another person down, bring yourself up, and work harder.

The Crucible reminds us that the abuse of trust and good standing to trick people into false beliefs, often leads to tragedy. Abigail Williams is the best example of this. Miss Williams wasn’t the most respected girl, but she was a young woman, and therefore held to a high standard. When Abigail was caught doing “witchcraft” in the woods, she used that standard to lie,and blame other girls for consorting with the devil and tricking her. Such as in Act 1 when she shouts at Tituba "She made me do it!

In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Abigail Williams and John Proctor are known to have had an adulterous affair with one another. Even though both John Proctor and Abigail are worthy of blame for their actions, Abigail is the most culpable of the two. In The Crucible, Abigail is the most to blame because of her “tempting” Proctor to carrying out the act more. During Act 1, Abigail is shown to keep egging on Proctor although he does not want to have the affair with her anymore.

Metamorphosis In prominent works of literature, there is always one character or a handful that cling to minds of readers. This could be due to the characters’ heroic deeds that are deeply admirable. On the other extreme, characters can encapsulate all we despise, making it a challenge to not link the story as a whole to the actions of one character in our minds. One such example of this extreme is Abigail Williams, easily the most despicable and vile character of The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller.

Whether a citizen wills to gain power or keep their power, accusing citizens of witch craft seemed to be the way to achieve power. Ultimate power and the ability to send anyone to their death becomes the same thing in Salem. Constantly the people in Salem struggle for power. Mr. Danforth, the judge in Salem has the characteristic of being power hungry, He maintains his power by sending people to death row. The Salem Witch trials are the response to power hungry individuals.

One may say John Proctor only did what he did because Elizabeth was his wife and any man would stand up for his wife and sacrifice himself. Ultimately though, in a time like this, if John Proctor stood up for his wife he’d be, in the worst-case scenario, put to death. Most people in today’s age wouldn’t do something like that. In times like this, most town folk seemed ready to do whatever they could do to help someone who they cared about, even if it put them to death, which shows John Proctor’s ability not to fear death. With Abigail Williams, on the other hand, being the villain, she might not seem courageous because of her wicked ways.

Abigail Williams’ Influence Is it okay for a person to lie and hurt other people just to keep him or herself safe? In Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible, Abigail Williams lies, a lot, to keep herself safe. Throughout the story, many people are accused of witchcraft. When a person is accused of witchcraft, it is very easy for them to get out of the accusation if they lie. The lies that are told shifts the belief of who knows witchcraft, and Abigail Williams uses those lies to gain influence over other people.

Abigail Williams' character is far from being innocent. She started the main problem in The Crucible and blamed whoever she could to keep herself out of trouble. This character
