Abigail’s mischievous behavior molded the start of salem witch trials. In Act 1 Abigail lie’s about what happened to Parris and threatening the girls to say what she want’s. Abigail tells the girls to say something or they wish they had never seen the sun go down. Abigail's type of behavior lying and threatening to cover her own self so she does not get in trouble. When Abigail is being questioned by Parris and Hale she is asked if she saw any one else with the devil and starts throwing out names in society they are low questionable reputation. When Abigail is questioned she says Tituba, Sarah Good Elizabeth Proctor and, Goody Osborn. Even though she has no evidence she starts throwing put names that seem like they would be a witch because
“She's a witch!” If you heard someone say that over and over again would you start to think differently about that person? Abigail is manipulative and a lair. Hev Parris found her and all the young girls of the town dancing naked in the woods, She claimed that someone made her do it a witch she said. This started a bigger lie, she started to blame anyone that crossed her on being a witch.
In the Crucible there are many heinous characters, but for me the most despicable is Abigail. The two reasons that I find her to be the most despicable is because she somehow got all her friends to perform satanic rituals with her in the forest, and also the fact that she and her friends all lied about it, which put many innocent people in jeopardy. In the beginning of the book, Parris sees a large group of girls dancing in the forest naked. As he was approaching the girls to see what was going on, all the girls ran away screaming, leaving behind a pot with a ladel and a frog in it.
Second, Abigail not only accused people herself, but she was able to convince other girls to accuse as well. For example, in Act 1, at the end of the scene, girls began to shout out names of people that they supposedly witness commit witchcraft. Translated, Abigail was so power
Crucible Essay Abigail was very questionable in the play. She could be very quiet. Being quiet actually turned out to be pretty powerful to her.
Imagine being accused of witchcraft and you have know idea why you're accused. In the Crucible, by Arthur Miller, In the village Salem, Abigail william has started rumor and accusation. Because of her of Accusing, it has led to many innocent lives put to death. This was one of the most dreadful times of Salem. Fear and Falsehood has been the main problem which led to Salem being corrupt.
Abigail had previously been in an affair with John Proctor, a well respected farmer, but he had called it off because of his wife's suspicions and uneasiness. As more and more girls start falling ill and appear to be having Devil induced fits, Abigail accuses more people who the town would have never thought of. In this time, courts didn't even require physical evidence so something as little as Abigail pointing a finger, got many killed. Abigail even threatened her own cousins and other girls around her age so they would join in on accusations. The whole town was in a state of panic and distress over possible witchery invading their homes or afflicting their own families.
People commonly say cliches like "good will always win" and "the truth will always prevail"; however, when led by a controlling governing power and manipulated by religion these statements can be proven untrue. In The Crucible, Abigail causes problems throughout the town by lying about witchcraft. She is seen as a reliable source and uses this to her advantage to manipulate people and accuse women of witchcraft. Abigail continuously lies with the intentions to pursue her past relationship with John, despite his many attempts to reveal the truth and get the town to see through her lies. Many people end up being hanged due to Abigail's deceit.
False charges were common for Abigail. Abigail was speaking to Danforth. Abigail says, "I saw Goody Osborn with the Devil! I saw Bridget Bishop with the Devil!" (Act 1.
As abigail states “She sends her spirit on me in church; she makes me laugh at prayer” Abigail is referring to Tituba and how Tituba sends the devils spirit to her in church. When Abigail is accused of witchcraft she does not own up to her mistakes of her attempt to summon the devil; She blames Tituba for her intolerable behavior. Abigail is a very Selfish person who hurt others numerous times to save herself. As Elizabeth states to the court “But in my sickness you see sir, I were a long time sick after my last baby, and I thought I saw my husband somewhat turning on me.” Elizabeth had gotten postpartum depression after her last baby, this left her very sick.
In Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible and in M. Night Shyamalan 's film, The Village both contained examples of jealousy transforming a character’s demeanor. In The Crucible, Abigail Williams had a loving demeanor towards John Proctor when they had an affair. However, after the discussion with John in Act One, it enlarged her jealousy towards his wife, Elizabeth. Abigail felt this way because she knew that his wife was in the way of their love (Miller 22-24). Over the course of the play, her desire for John had significantly increased and she jealously acted on the strategy to conspire against Elizabeth.
Have you ever read the story or watched TV show that has heroes and villains? I think that everybody has heard about this kind of stories before. There are different characters in the story. Do you think that it is going to be fun if stories have just only hero or villains? No, I do not agree with that.
Almost everyone in Salem can turn on anyone at any moment and Abigail picked up on this behavior and used it to her advantage. When questioned if she had danced with the devil with the girls in the woods Abigail confessed however she twisted her words to “I want the light of God; I want the sweet love of Jesus! I danced with the devil; I saw him, I wrote in his book; I go back to Jesus; I kiss His hand” in order to appear
In The Crucible, I believe that Abigail could have ended the mass hysteria in Salem by being honest and not having an affair at an age that you're still young, Abigail was wrong for just accusing anyone in her way to get them hanged which she could’ve stopped the hysteria just by owning up to her problems. Abigail never meant to get john proctor to hanged after all abigail just wanted proctor all to her self. Abigail was upset because she viewed Elizabeth as an inconvenience just because she is preventing Abigail from being with Proctor. “ Did you come to see me John I almost forgot how strong you are” To this moment Abigail was with Procter but he denied that he didn't want anything to do with her.
In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible Abigail Williams, a young, headstrong woman , is the main villain of this story. Most people will say Abigail is the victim but the only thing she is a victim of is a broken heart. The reasons of her being the fellon are she started the witch hoax and tried to rid of Goody Proctor. Abigail commenced the whole witch hoax in order to save herself from getting into trouble for ‘dancing’ in the woods.
When Abigail is accused of witchery and accuses someone else they start to fear who could be a witch and end up accusing multiple people. Witches are a threat to the Salem society therefore resulting in everyone having a fear of them. “I never called him! Tituba, Tituba…”(Miller 40) . Abigails accusation of another causes more drama, tension and fear because of how easy mass hysteria is to fall onto everyone and get them worried about how everything will end up.
