The Holocaust has affected people horrifically especially the less fortunate. The book Night, narrated by Elie Wiesel shows the experience of a young Romanian boy being a prisoner in the Holocaust. Based on the terrible treatment of the less fortunate as seen through the elderly and children in the book Night and the antisemitism in America, it is clear that humanity is essentially not good. Throughout the book Night, it is shown that humanity is essentially not good through the horrific treatment of elderly people. During the book Night Idek explodes and started to beat Elie's father, “And he began beating him with an iron bar”(Wiesel 54). This scene shows how Jews and other prisoners were treated on a daily basis. The Germans or Kapo would take their anger out on the Jews and prisoners in concentration for just doing the little things wrong. During the train ride, Mrs. Shachter kept repeating the word fire until the others had enough, “She received several blows to the head, blows that could have been lethal”(Wiesel 26). This scene shows how horrific ways people were beaten, even women were beaten. Those several blows could’ve …show more content…
During roll call Elie was told to lay on the crate, “I no longer felt anything except the lashes of the whip”(Wiesel 57). This shows how even the kids were treated horrifically. It didn’t even matter what age the children were, if they disobeyed orders or did something they were not supposed to do they would be beaten or even killed. When the child's rope got cut to be hanged, “The third rope was still moving: the child, too light, was still breathing”(Wiesel 65). A child hanging, a poor innocent child? The child wasn’t even heavy enough to cut his circulation off with the rope. The S.S. made a child suffer through his death. This shows the horrific treatment of the children and that humanity is essentially not
Throughout the book Night by Elie Wiesel, Eliezer, the protagonist, is transported and moved to numerous concentration camps. His story, which is corresponding to Wiesel’s biography, is representative to the lives of a billion other Jews. Jews were stripped away from their families, beliefs, identity, and freedom. They could no longer express their faith in God or have the human right to live where desired. During the holocaust, nothing was fair, everything was dark and cruel.
Elie’s treatment inside and outside of the concentration camp were inadequate as they were abused, ignored, and mistreated. One example is when a Kapo whipped Eliezer to make sure he kept
“The Holocaust, the state sponsored persecution and murder of European Jews by Nazi Germany… is history’s most extreme example of antisemitism” (USHMM). Elie Wiesel is one of the many Jewish people affected by the Holocaust. Night is a memoir about a Jewish boy named Elie during the Holocaust. Readers follow Elie as his hometown is turned into a ghetto, as he’s sent to concentration camps, and as he is walking on a death march. Throughout the memoir Elie is faced with the death of his loved ones, and deals with the cruel situations on a daily basis.
This violence and inhumane punishment clearly demonstrates how the men were turned into animals, being whipped just as a farmer would whip his cattle. Any punishment whatsoever was unnecessary to start with, as Elie simply walks in by accident on a Kapo sleeping with a girl. However, because the Nazis are attempting to turn the prisoners into animals, Elie is not allowed any benevolence or mercy, and is publicly whipped to the point of fainting. This is a clear demonstration of how the Nazis utilize physical abuse to dehumanize prisoners like Elie and his father. Moreover, Ellen Fine describes how during the time that Elie is witnessing his father being beaten, “rage against the aggressor has been displaced onto the victim, and concern for
In the memoir “Night” by Elie Wiesal, Wiesal himself is explaining his story, and personal experiences from the Holocaust of 1933-1945. This event is one of the most unbelievable times in history. Elie tells his story, in hopes that it will prevent history from repeating itself. The Jews went through not just internal hell, but had to live it everyday. They were treated like objects, animals, and nonentities.
Dehumanization is a psychological phenomenon that characterizes individuals with wholly negative connotations sequentially, encouraging violence and haterade toward them. Night, written by Elie Wiesel, is a memoir that embraces the consequences of dehumanization; it paints the reader with the reality of someone who experienced being a direct target of whole-hearted antagonism. In this essay, I intend to shed light on the horrendous tactics the Nazis used to control Elie, his father, and everyone involved. In addition, I will dismantle how Elie Wiesel's personality shifts before and after the events of the Holocaust. Upon first arriving, German troops wasted no time barking their perilous commands to the residences of Siget, Transylvania.
and so he continued to hit me harder and harder”

Wiesel is a 15 year old Jewish boy who was captured by the Germans or “Nazis” during WWII. The severely cruel conditions of concentration camps had a profound impact on everyone who had the misfortune of experiencing them. For Elie Wiesel, the author of Night and a survivor of Auschwitz, one aspect of himself that was greatly impacted was his view of humanity. During his time before, during, and after the holocaust, Elie changed from being a boy with a relatively average outlook on mankind, to a shadow of a man with no faith in the goodness of society, before regaining confidence in humanity once again later in his life. For the first 13 years of his life, Elie seemed to have a normal outlook on humanity.
Night by Elie Wiesel describes his experiences as a Jew in the concentration camps during World War II. During this time, Wiesel witnessed many horrific acts. Two of these were executions. Though the processes of the executions were similar, the condemned and the Jews’ reactions to the execution were different. One execution was the single hanging of a strong giant youth from Warsaw.
