Abstract Copland comes from a different approach in this crime movie taking the good guy/bad guy plotline and flipping it around by dealing with corruption within the police department. This paper is analyzing how one sheriff from another town who no longer can deal with it. He has to figure out how to deal with it. As the accusations gets tougher to deal with, The sheriff, who is thought of as a joke by the corrupt officers, he must decide whether to keep ignoring the corruption and death surrounding him, or to finally find the nerve to do what is right.

The sheriff seems to be the only ethical officer in the area. The rest of them are corrupt in the movie the incident of the officer Murray shot a couple of African- American teens, because he had believed that he was being shot at. Another officer named Jack then plants a weapon in the vehicle to get Murray out of trouble. Another officer suggests that the officer that shot the men to fake his own suicide because of the fear that what he did will have bad results. Another officer Joey Randone gets into a fight with a suspect and thrown off the roof as Donlan watches and does nothing as revenge. Later in the movie another form of corruption incident occurs. As Moe begins the investigation superiors in the department demand that he shut down the investigation. Another dilemma is that the sheriff finds out that Figgsy burnt his own house for the insurance money. The Internal Affairs officer Moe who has had his own doubts about Ray Donlan and the town of Garrison for awhile. Murrays death has given Moe a reason to investigate. After giving some pictures to the sheriff that show Ray talking with known criminals. At Murrays funeral he’s asked to give any information he might have on corrupt officers. Tulsa, Oklahoma, on July 5 at around 11:45am in the north side of the city, former Marine 33 year old Craig Wingard was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Craig had been shot by a man that went inside the house that Craig was in front of, came back out to started to shot. After shooting Craig, the shooter fled the scene in a dark vehicle with paper plates, this according to witness. Craig was shot four times in his chest, hand, and legs. Not many PhD scholars or professors are able to get in a black crime neighborhood which is poor, stay for seven years and fail to answer this question: “how does it feel when a person is black and poor in addition?”Most of the studies done in this book were done in safe, sanitized ivory towers. This piece of writing portrays neoliberal capitalism on the lives of working class people among the blacks (Venkatesh, 2009). The community views government leaders such as social service workers, Chicago Housing Authority, government agencies and the police differently. Most of these government officials are perceived negatively.

In appealing to this entertainment factor a myriad of components are considered in the development of crime films and literature. In Old City Hall, Rotenberg’s inclusion of multiple perspectives allows the readers to follow the thought process of the different components that make up the criminal justice system, including legal counsel, police officers, judges, forensic analysists and witnesses. For instance, Rotenberg mentions the techniques often used by both lawyers and detectives in carefully phrasing questions to get a response from a witness or suspect. “He knew what impressed judges and juries most was not a witness who simply read from the notebook, but one who genuinely tried to remember what it was he had seen and heard and felt” (Rotenberg, 2009, p. 247).
In the book The Pact written by Dr. Davis, Dr. Jenkins, and Dr. Hunt; George ends the book sitting at his desk observing a group of teenagers up to mischief. The teens are dressed in red and hanging around a white Honda Accord causing a commotion. He asks himself “Where are their parents? Where are the cops?... Where are our young leaders to show the kids something different from what they see around here?”
Leo Tolstoy once said, “Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” This quote proves true for one of the main characters in each A Gathering of Old Men, and Julius Caesar. Sheriff Mapes from A Gathering of Old Men, and Marcus Brutus from Julius Caesar both try to change the world. Sheriff Mapes tries to change the world starting off small within his own community, while Marcus Brutus tries to change the world on a much larger scale, throughout the whole republic. Mapes is a law enforcer, so when there is a death he takes control and tries to get to the bottom of it.
The case starts off by Officer Gung Ho being on foot patrol during the day shift. He receives a call from dispatch about possible drug sales occurring on Main Street. Officer Ho sees three individuals standing on the corner. Officer Ho approaches them and asks what they are doing. Dan, one of the individuals, and another begin to walk away leaving the third person, Junkie Jane.
In the commencement of the story Mr.Chiu is a devoted law abiding citizen. He recognizes that the duty of law enforcement is to not only enforce the law for others but it is also to abide by the laws they are there to enforce. Furthermore, He also believes that the police force are harming the citizens by not obeying the law. “He[Mr. Chiu] has trusted that those with authority will operate morally and will honor, even revere, the truth, values he upholds as well.”
As defined by Bob Harrison in Noble Cause Corruption and the Police Ethic, “Noble Cause Corruption is the concept of officers acting illegally,not for personal gain, but to fulfill moral obligations, stands as a testimony to the difficulties encouraged by those entrusted with the public's safety”. It is “a mindset or sub-culture which fosters a belief that the end sjustify the means, law enforcement is engaged in a mission to make our streets and communities safe and if that requires suspending the constitution or violating laws ourselves in order to accomplish our mission then for the greater good of society,so be it” (Steve Rothlien). Throughout high school teenagers are going through many changes. These young people are trying to find themselves and seek out who they truly are. Along the road they encounter peer pressure from people utilizing illegal substances. Even though school systems educate young minds about the use and consequences of illegal drugs, they still take the chances. The predominant complication that these adolescents come across is that upon interacting with the police, they are unaware of how to manipulate the circumstance.

In the documentary, “The Seven Five” directed by Tiller Russell, he sheds light onto the story of former NYPD officer Michael Dowd and how he and his prescient were involved in committing numerous crimes, including running their own cocaine ring while on the job in the 1980’s, early 90’s. The Rampart Scandal took place in the Los Angeles Police Departments jurisdiction. The scandal started to unravel when undercover officer Frank Lyga took off-duty officer Kevin Gaine’s life. Lyga justified the shooting by saying Gaines threatened him with a gun. Due to police policy, the incident had to be investigated. The investigation showed that Gaines was connected with Death Row Records, which is a recording label owned by Suge Knight.
End of Watch Review In the movie “End of Watch”, directed by David Ayer, Officer Taylor (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Zavala (Michael Peña) aren’t your everyday ghetto cops. Officer Taylor is filming his police life for the art elective he is taking for pre-law. The numerous hours they spend together in their cruiser, constantly bickering and bantering, has formed a deep friendship and brotherhood. They have even earned the respect of some local gangs by prioritising the rule of the “street” over the book of the law.
‘’Most officers enter law enforcement with minimal experience in the field or in handling the moral dilemmas that officers typically encounter. They learn how to perform their jobs, as well as recognize the organizational norms, values, and culture, from their peers and supervisors. While supervisors provide direct, formal reinforcement, officers’ peers offer friendship and informal rewards that, in many cases, hold greater influence than official recognition from the agency’’ (Fitch, 2011). Officers who come across situations where they are unsure what is morally and ethically best to do often turn to their peers for assurance and guidance. Good ethical behavior can easily be influenced by officers and those in law enforcement.
