After reading The Outsiders, The All American Slurp, and Cardboard, I recognized that being an individual is more important than following the crowd. These three stories support this idea through the characters and events. My position is right because the events, characters, and themes from these three books, support this idea. In the book, “All American Slurp”k by Lensey Namioka, the main character felt the need to fit in with the rest of the Americans.

Most well written and descriptive stories use many disparate tools to make it better. The author of the story The Veldt used figurative language, imagery, and diction to foreshadow the tragic ending of the story. In the end the children use the lions from Africa to slaughter their parents ,and you can kind of guess that the children are planning something evil because of the descriptions and figurative language in the story. The children give off a very negative aura throughout the whole story that leads you to believe that something cynical is occuring.

Often when the power to enforce a perspective is placed into the hands of the majority, it quickly develops into a widespread moral issue amid the public. It effortlessly becomes a regular part of life and engraved itself into the implications of society. Technology pulls strings within society to create an environment where it is prevalent and heavily dictates how said environment functions. Isolation has no choice but to subject itself to those who are unique and who don’t fit the government's criteria of a standard person. In Ray Bradbury's utopian and dystopian fiction, Fahrenheit 451, he creates an eccentric world in which books are banned and technology is a prominent aspect of everyone's everyday lives.

In life, people face the pressures of conformity in their everyday lives from school, to just going shopping for clothing. Throughout literature, protagonists face the pressures of conformity in their lives no matter the age of the character. Both The Giver by Lois Lowry and Number Twelve looks just like You by John Tomerlin deal with pressures of conformity, but they do so in different ways. Whether it be their bizarre hairstyle, their goofy teeth, or their impeccable style, humans will always critique and judge one another. Alden Nowlan’s story, The Fall of the City, introduces the main character, Teddy, as an imaginative and crafty individual— only for his self-confidence to be shattered by the defiling words of his uncle and aunt in mere seconds. The nature of conformity and individualism in Fahrenheit 451 is different compared to each other. Conformity is how everyone is in the novel while individualism is only shown outside of society.
