The Nazi regime killed about six million jews during the holocaust.During the 1940s German authorities targeted Jew and many other people, they would be put in death camps and forced to do hard labored. The atrocities the Jewish people had to face was terrifying. Going day after day not knowing if you will be the one selected to die;having your love ones die and suffer. Doing hard labor and very little food. losing your humanity as they take everything away from you. The jewish people change because of the suffering, they lose faith and hope and give up on going forward or living on through the tough times.
“ I stood there petrified. What had happened to me? My father had just been struck, in front of me, and I had not even blinked once. I watched and kept silent” (39). This is one of the examples of the atrocities the jewish people had to face. They lost their humanity. They were forced to shave their hair and were not named by their name and number. They lived in

Why, but why I bless him? Every fiber in me rebelled. Because he caused thousands of children to burn in his mass graves?” (67) This is one example of how they lost faith. Wiesel wants to believe in God but he doesn't understand why this is happening to him and other people. He doesn't feel like celebrating the jewish holidays, even though many other jews still have very little faith. “Yes, man is greater than God. When Adam and Eve deceived you, you chased them from paradise. When you were displeased by Noah's generation. You brought down flood. When Sodom lost your favor, You caused the heavens to rain down fire and damnation. But look at these men whom you betrayed, allowing them to be tortured, slaughtered, gassed and burned, what do they ? They pray before you! They praise Your name!” (67-68). This show how anger Wisel is with God and what going on around him. They don't deserve this it show how good people died in death camps and they carried on in faith as some gave
In the memoir “Night by Ellie Wiesel '' Madame Schachter foreshadowed what would happen in the future. There are many literary devices used in chapter 2 but only some of them are the main points. At the beginning when she starts screaming they treat her like she's ill and she will stop but then it states . “We had forgotten Mrs. Schachter's existence and suddenly there was a terrible scream Jews look! Look at the fire Look at the flames and as the train stopped this time we saw flames rising from a tall chimney into a black sky” ( Wiesel 28).
During the book Night by Elie Wiesel the author uses figurative language to describe and connect the reader to the book. While reading it is easy to find out what types of figurative language are there to describe like similes and hyperboles which add to the text but don 't really make the reader think.
The Holocaust He’s hiding in someone’s attic! He’s scared out of his mind! Bombs are bursting outside! Windows are being smashed and shattered!
This account of Jewish survival is at once depressing, excruciatingly so. Unrelenting abuse and unspeakable crimes constantly bombard the reader. How does one feel having read it? Sick? Furthermore even Elie, a survivor, says, “My soul had been invaded -and devoured- by a black flame (pg.37)…my life… no longer mattered (pg.113).”
Where's God? How can I believe, how can anyone believe in this God of Mercy?" (Wiesel 75). At this moment Jews were being swept away from their beliefs and convinced that they were in hell. This employed symbolism of hell as never ending agony.
The Holocaust is the most significant historical event that I have studied so far. This tragic event took place during World War II and only very few survivors lived to share their shocking experiences. I have read a few of these survivor’s stories, such as Night, by Elie Wiesel and it has personally impacted me and influenced my thinking in various ways. The Holocaust was the greatest act of hate, violence, and anti-semitism.
Never shall I forget those things, even were I condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never. ”(Wiesel, 34) This was written at the end of the first day. It really shows how dehumanization can make someone feel. After all that the men, women, and children have gone through they never thought of revenge, and only thought of bread.
In the span of a lifetime one often faces many adversities that stand within their path. While some challenges will be overcome easily, others will take a lot more tenacity. When in the face of adversity it is key not to give up. One should always strive to persevere through their hardships, no matter how severe they seem to be. The author of the memoir “Night” Elie Wiesel, vividly describes his experiences in the concentration camp of Auschwitz.
There are many events in history but Holocaust left a permanent scar on the face of history. The event soaked in blood and tears of innocent would be unforgettable. Holocaust also known as Shoah (in Hebrew) was a genocide that took lives of millions of people from different backgrounds. Approximately 1 million Gypises were killed, 1.5 million mentally and physically handicapped people were victims of T-4 program, but Jews where the primary victims and 6 million Jews died in holocaust (Neiwyk and Nicosia). The Holocaust took place between 1933-1945.
Why do you go on troubling these poor people’s wounded minds, their ailing bodies?”(Wiesel 68) Wiesel clearly is losing faith in God because he has seen babies burned alive, families killed together. Wiesel blames God for what has happened. Additionally, Elie Wiesel is not thankful for God anymore because he is not in Auschwitz helping him and the rest of the Jews. Wiesel feels anger towards God.
The Holocaust affects Jews in a way that seems unimaginable, and most of these effects seem to have been universal experiences; however, in the matter of faith, Jews in the concentration camp described in Elie Wiesel’s Night are affected differently and at different rates. The main character, Elie, loses his faith quickly after the sights he witnesses (as well as many others); other Jews hold on much longer and still pray in the face of total destruction. In the beginning, all of the Jews are more or less equally faithful in their God and religion.
In which millions of Jews were innocently killed and persecuted because of their religion. As a student who is familiar with the years of the holocaust that will forever live in infamy, Wiesel’s memoir has undoubtedly changed my perspective. Throughout the text, I have been emotionally touched by the topics of dehumanization, the young life of Elie Wiesel, and gained a better understanding of the Holocaust. With how dehumanization was portrayed through words, pondering my mind the most.
Up to 6 million Jewish people died during the Holocaust. In 1933 Adolf Hitler became the leader of Germany's military, and formed an army called the Nazi. The Holocaust was a huge mass murder during the time of World War II. Hitler and his army put together the Holocaust in 1941 through 1945. Hitler had dozens of camps in Germany, the biggest one was Auschwits, where millions of people have died.
Losing faith is like clearing off a foggy windshield. The true pain and suffering of the world are revealed. During the Holocaust, the SS would often force prisoners to witness the deaths of fellow prisoners, to scare them into obeying the SS and to show the prisoners what would happen to them if they did not follow orders. In the memoir Night, Elie Wiesel uses symbolism and metaphors to show the theme that suffering will weaken religious faith.
Wiesel used foreshadowing in the story of Mrs. Schachter by having her yelling about a fire. Of course, no one knew of what she was talking about, so they quieted her. She continues to yell later as well and so the young men gagged her. When they arrived at Auschwitz Mrs. Schachter was screaming about the flames and the fire. When the train stopped, everyone jumped out avoiding the strike of a stick, they thenk smelled the stench of burning flesh from the fire.
