The Shawshank Redemption is a cinematographic film that was directed by Frank Darabont and released in the year 1994. The film takes into prospect and delves into a contagious view of hope, and how it is considered one of the strongest influences there are. Ellis Boyd Redding, a dynamic protagonist in The Shawshank Redemption once said that hope “is a dangerous thing.” The values placed in hope shape the belief in that one day the incarcerated heroes would leave the prison and return to an adjusted society. Hope can inspire, and deliver a message to shape the perspective of an individual being; societies, collectives and individuals look towards a brighter path of fate--a destiny that could one day become a reality. “Geology is the study of pressure and time. That’s all it takes really, pressure, and time.” In most correctional institutions all you have is--time, plenty of time, and that’s the worst thing about it. It’s not the people, but the time you have to reflect upon the reason you ended up institutionalized. Brookes is a static character in the film, having spent his entire life in the correctional facility and hasn’t seen the outside world since his younger years. Marvelling at how much the world outside has kept going and advanced without him, he eventually had to find a way to cope-- Shawshank was all he knew of, and stepping outside of that “boundary” was abounding. Furthermore, you could look at life as an eyeglass. An eyeglass with lenses. With each lens being a new perspective, one might say that life would be an endless cycle of switching perspectives.
