Contrasting Moliere 's "Tartuffe" and Voltaire 's "Candide" , each author took a different approach in expressing their true opinions of institutional religion. In "Tartuffe", the main idea of the poem comes from hypocrisy of moderation and religion. In the beginning, we find Madame Pernelle criticizing Orgon 's family and fellow associates about their way of thinking and living. She talks about how they are not living as Tartuffe is and how they are fools to do other wise. In reality, Tartuffe is an ungodly hypocrite who uses his priest identity to mask his crimes and true identity.

Tituba admits to doing witchcraft but has to blame other people. Soon enough people start blaming other people for personal reasons. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller abby is the biggest hypocrite. Abby claims to be a good puritan however she lies a lot.

At the opening of the play, we find that she eats forbidden sweets behind her husbands back. This is not a huge offense, but it is an action that gives us insight into her deceptive nature. We later discover that she borrowed money, forged a signature, and lied to her husband about it. She justifies her actions with the rational that her deceptive actions stem out of an act of love, thus making them right. She doesn 't see anything wrong with her perception and can often be found covering her deceit with phrases like, “You mustn 't say anything about it to anyone.

Moliere states to the King: “ it is a piece of great temerity on my part to come and importune a great monarch in the midst of his glorious conquest” (Moliere, Second Petition). Moliere is captivated by the King and believes that he is not worthy of his time, but seeks assistance regardless. Orgon, in contrast, believes that

The Crucible teaches its readers the true application of authority along with the misuses of it. To begin with, the people of higher social status utilizes their position for their own gain. Parris uses his position as minister to make absurd demands. For instance, he complains that he is underpaid and request for two items: a higher salary and the deed of the meeting house. To argue, he declares that he is “ the Lord’s man in the parish”(1250).
