Martin Luther King struggle can be construed as an advocacy for a good society. I say this because according to Merriam Webster dictionary, advocacy means the act or process of supporting a cause or proposal (Merriam Webster). During Martin Luther King’s life, he supported a major cause in the African American society which was the Civil Rights movement. Dr. Martin Luther King made many recommendations for a policy to be passed to stop institutionalized racism. Martin Luther King goal was to raise the public consciousness of racism. Martin Luther King was an advocacy for a good society was one his first successful protest which was the Montgomery bus boycott in 1955 through 1956. Martin Luther King protested the bus boycott when Rosa Park was arrest for not giving up her seat to a white man. When the bus boycott started, Alabama transit system started to lose large amount of revenue and was in a huge deficit. The bus boycott caught attention from many people and this allowed the Supreme Court to rule on if segregated buses were unconstitutional. The Supreme Court in 1956 found that it was unconstitutional to have segregated buses. Another example of ways Martin Luther King was an advocacy for a good society was The Birmingham campaign of 1963. This campaign was too end discriminatory economic policies in Alabama. Martin Luther Kings was successfully in doing this by boycotting certain businesses that hired only white people or that had segregated restrooms. He also held sit-ins and marches to ensure that equality was in Alabama. At the end of the campaign, businesses finally accepted the change and took down segregation signs and the businesses became open to all

Martin had all the right words to say to keep whites and government officials from being completely against everything he had to say. Although, Martin did not have enough action steps to establish equal rights, Malcolm X certainly does. Consequently, it is likely that Malcolm X was an example of how to protest in an effective way. If Martin Luther King Jr. was more demanding and forceful like Malcolm X, the Civil Rights Act could have been established years before it was.
