Live to Achieve Your Goals Survival should always be the primary goal. Elie Wiesel in the book "Night" lived to achieve his goals. Although some people might think that survival should not always be the primary goal, it isn't true because surviving is the main one in the long run, we think about how we will live if we achieve some kind of goal. And also survival isn't only keeping yourself alive it's also the things that keep you going and motivate you to live, meaning its the primary goal in life. Some people may think that survival isn’t a goal, it is an instinct. It can be considered an instinct but it is what makes us live our lives, without the want to survive, we would simply be nothing. First, surviving is the main one in the long run. We think about how we will live if we achieve some kind of goal. For example in the book "Night" it says, "the only thing that kept me from abandoning all hope was that I knew that, at any moment, I was capable of being a victim rather than a witness" (page 34). This shows that Wiesel understands that the only way to ensure his survival is to prioritize it above all else. …show more content…
For example in the book "Night" it says, "YOM KIPPUR. The Day of Atonement. Should we fast? The question was hotly debated. Too fast could mean a more certain, more rapid death. In this place, we were always fasting. It was Yom Kippur year-round. But there were those who said we should fast, precisely because it was dangerous to do so. We needed to show God that even here, locked in hell, we were capable of singing His praises." (page 69). This shows that even though the people in the holocaust are going through hard times they still have beliefs in god which motivates them to keep
Survival In Night, And How It Impacts Different Characters Elie Wiesel’s Night is a true story, a memoir describing the experience of many Jewish people’s reality during the Holocaust. During this time, many people had to struggle with decisions to make, people to help, and understanding the harsh reality of what happened to them. In the end, everyone was simply doing what they needed to survive. The most impactful theme in Night is survival, demonstrated by the way certain people deal with surviving, physically, mentally, or emotionally.
So, how was Wiesel denied his individuality? Well in the book it says “ We no longer have the right to frequent restaurants or cafes, to travel by rail, to attend synagogue, to be on the streets after six o’clock in the evening.” (Wiesel 11). The way this quote from the book proves that he was denied individuality is that the Jews didn’t have a choice about what they could and could not do while the Nazis took over. Then soon after, the ghettos were made and every single Jew was forced to live there for three days.
The story follows the life of a young Jewish boy named Eliezer, who endures unimaginable suffering and hardship during the Holocaust. Despite this, he maintains an inner strength that allows him to keep going and never give up hope for himself or others around him. This resilience is exemplified through his steadfast faith in God despite all odds, as well as his refusal to let anyone else define what it means to be Jewish or deny him from having pride in being part of such an important culture and history. Throughout Night there are many examples that demonstrate how no one can take away someone’s sense of belonging even when faced with extreme adversity.
Despite some people being in such drastic situations, they still show humanity in their actions. In the book “night” by Ellie Weisel. It talks about his life during the holocaust and what he had to go through while they put him in a concentration camp. Many of the inmates that Elie Wiesel was in camp with had shown humanity in their own ways and actions, despite being in such dangerous situations. And many of those actions could have impacted their survival.
Ever since humans came to be, they have done many things to ensure their survival. It’s the reason why we humans have evolved as much as we have. Humans have invented devices, accomplished many challenges, and have even relied on nothing but willpower to survive. When somebody survives a tragic event they are left with some terrifying memories that haunt them forever, but a few survivors are courageous enough to share their experience. Obviously, one of the shared experiences is the book called Night by Elie Wiesel.
Survival of the fittest The theme of survival of the fittest is shown throughout the memoir Night. Night was written by Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel. In this memoir Elie explains as well as shows survival of the fittest, by sharing his story of his struggles along with countless other Jews during the holocaust. He illustrated the theme of survival of the fittest in the memoir night through the situations of Elie lying about his age during selection, the Rabbi's son leaving his father, during the death march, and the son killing his father over a crust of bread.
Hope is a helpful tool to push people through the hardest times in life. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, there are numerous examples of hope helping people and revitalizing their confidence. People used hope to help them through rough times. People hope that friends and family are still alive. Also hope that the Front liberates the camps and frees everyone.
In the book, Boys in the Boat, by Daniel James Brown, we learn the story of Joe Rantz and his struggle in past and his present life, where he fights for a spot on the Washington Olympic Rowing Team and fights to win the Olympics. Throughout each of the books, Elie Wiesel and Joe Rantz demonstrate resilience through losing the faith of religion, but still surviving and the struggle of losing family. In Night, Elie Wiesel demonstrates resilience by losing his faith in religion, but still surviving through the horrible and treacherous obstacles in the concentration camp. To illustrate, it says on page 69,¨I did not fast...
Courage is a word that used often or not, has it’s own meaning. Having courage to do the impossible is experienced in our everyday lives without even thinking, such as, taking out the trash, going to school, taking a step onto a unknown street, it happens to us all and can even have a dramatic impact on yourself, your future, and your life. In the book Night courage is experienced every single day of torture. Prisoners, such as Elie, face and fight for their own survival not knowing that their best weapon possessed in their hands was courage. Courage was a weapon, a very powerful weapon that could change your fate in an instant.
In the span of a lifetime one often faces many adversities that stand within their path. While some challenges will be overcome easily, others will take a lot more tenacity. When in the face of adversity it is key not to give up. One should always strive to persevere through their hardships, no matter how severe they seem to be. The author of the memoir “Night” Elie Wiesel, vividly describes his experiences in the concentration camp of Auschwitz.
Victim of Isis are experiencing death, suffering, and with no hope in sight. But the horrific events was not happening in the middle east during present times, but during world war II in Germany. In the book Night, Elie Wiesel explains his experiences during the holocaust. Elie Wiesel wrote this book so he can inform people who weren’t there or didn’t know what happened to prevent this from happening again. Elie Wiesel assert this by show loss of faith, brutality and suffering Elie Wiesel, for a period of time of his life, experienced many things witnessing many deaths and malnourishment for years.
People are intrigued by this suffering not just out of sympathy but as curiosity for other humans have endured and lived through increasing the fascination for historians to look at the Holocaust to see what other horrors besides starvation and brutal violence humans have suffered, survived, and conquered through. No matter the time and place it is human nature to have hope and optimism even in the darkest times. Even through the Holocaust some of the Jewish people hoped and believed they would be free one day without hate or prosecution. Hope can be shown not just through fighting or being happy but it can be shown through humor. For example in the movie Life is Beautiful the main character mocks a German soldier even when It could cost him his life by translating for the soldier but doing it all wrong in more comical tones.
Although people may think survival should always be the primary goal, I feel like survival shouldn’t be the most essential goal in everyday life because survival is not a goal but an instinct and Death is unpredictable & inevitable.
The human condition is a very malleable idea that is constantly changing due to the current state of mankind. In the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel, the concept of the human condition is displayed in the worst sense of the concept, during the Holocaust of WWII. During this time, multiple groups of people, most notably European Jews, were persecuted against and sent to horrible hard labor and killing centers such as Auschwitz. In this memoir, Wiesel uses complex figurative language such as similes and metaphors to display the theme that a person’s state as a human, both at a physical and emotional level, can be altered to extreme lengths, and even taken away from them, under the most extreme conditions.
In Night by Elie Wiesel the author shows resilience is how people survive through difficult times. Elie shows resilience by never giving up hope on surviving and working hard to keep his life going to make it out of the war. A specific instance is when they have begun the run from one camp to another with the SS shooting people who were left behind “I kept repeating to myself ‘Don’t stop, don’t think, run!’ Near me men were collapsing into dirty snow. Gunshots.”
