It is also essential that the practitioner is interested in development of the children by using effective communication skills, building a positive relationship, approaching and responding in appositive manner, making feel comfortable or supporting which it’s required.

It can also enhance the relationship between a child and an adult. To encourage children to talk, it can be useful to have a bag containing toys, colouring pencils, paper, flash cards and worksheets. These items could also support communicating with a child with a learning disability. Older children may find it hard to communicate because they fear their private thoughts will be exposed. A range of things can be used to encourage an older child to talk.

Sometimes they may have English as a second language but some may only have their first language.

They can be directed specifically to address individual areas such as speaking and listening, or can be used more generally to support all areas as they are interlinked. Play is an ideal way to engage children to communicate with others, as they can interact in a non- pressured environment.
