Health Assessment
A comprehensive family assessment provides the foundation to promote family health (Kaakinen, 2010). Gordon’s functional health assessment is a holistic approach describing the individual’s biopsychosocial-spiritual, interrelated behaviors in 11 different areas in a family/community life (Edelman & Mandle, 2010). The author of this report, assessed a family of four that live in Aurora, Illinois by asking open ended questions in the eleven categories of Gordon’s functional health pattern theory. The author then analyzed the data and developed a wellness diagnosis for the family.

They do not prefer processed food. Both the Children, prefer home-packed lunches than eating school lunch. They think that home food is much tastier and healthier than school lunch. Family likes to cook both Indian and Thai dishes. Mr. Kakunar prepares an Indian dish called sambar with lots of vegetables and lentil, which the family enjoys a lot and considers a very tasty way to eat vegetables. Mrs. Kakunar has a family history of diabetes and colon cancer, so she is very keen on choosing healthy diet. The children need to go to school early in the morning for extracurricular activities. On weekdays children go to sleep by 9 PM and 10 or 11 PM on weekends. Mrs. Kakunar works on evening shift in her nursing home. She usually gets only six hours of sleeping. She tries to compensate by naps and extended sleep during her off days. She complains that she has trouble sleeping and feel tiered due to lack of sleep.
Elimination
Mr. Kakunar and the children have regular bowl movements, while Mrs. Kakunar is constipated at times. She cannot sleep when constipated and feels bloated. She has increased fiber intake in the diet and sometimes uses laxative to get relief. She feels that the constipation at times interferes the lifestyle and family activities. The family members have no complaints about the urination.
Activity/Exercise
Mr. and Mrs. Kakunar find little time for regular exercises during weekdays, due to the work schedule and long commute. They are aware of importance of exercise and wish they could make a routine exercise. Mrs. Kakunar requires to walk a lot during her nursing duties and she, considers it as a form of exercise. The scope of practice of a family nurse practitioner enables them the ability to serve as a primary care provider for families. This includes providing care for each member of the family individually and for the entire family collectively as a whole. Family nurse practitioners typically work in either a family practice or community health setting, where they are often responsible for the care of the entire family. Within each setting, there are numerous cultural variations that a family nurse practitioner might encounter. It is important that the family nurse practitioner is able to meet the families’ and are culturally competent when doing so.
I am 17 years old currently at studding health and social care level 3. I am hard working, punctual, a good time keeper, honest, polite and good at listening. Another thing I exceed in is team work, I am good at contributing in groups, as I did extra curriculum activities such as netball which allowed me to work well as a team to achieve greater accomplishments. I am a very hands on person which will make me reliable person who will be always looking to pick up extra shifts, and making the company an even better success. Assessment: Client: N.H. is fifty-two and works at Marsha’s Buckeyes creating chocolate confections. Sleeping Schools Countless students all over the US struggle to keep their eyes open throughout the day because school classes start too early in the morning. If we were able to give an hour to students in the morning, we would see an increase in their physical mentality, their academic skill level, and an overall happier lifestyle. Many people will argue that starting school too late in the morning will cause after school activities -- such as sports and other clubs -- no time to meet before the night ends. But I must mention that we don’t need to push the start time that much later to see a huge improvement on student’s test scores, overall grades, and a student’s mood.
