Family In The House On Mango Street

Esperanza and her mother made the choice to leave Mexico and go to California to work, and escape Tio Luis, which I believe to be a good decision. Before going, Esperanza was spoiled, rich, and quite full of herself, living in a high social class family, and in general thought of herself better than others. At first, she was against leaving everything she knew and loved, but in the end, found herself liking California. Esperanza made new friends, in particular, Isabel, who taught her many things, even though she was younger.

Esperanza clinging onto her dream house indicates that she doesn’t want to belong on Mango Street. She also uses repetition to emphasize a few phrases. Furthermore, Esperanza finds freedom and identity through pursuing her writing. On page 61, it was mentioned that Aunt Lupe told her, “You just remember to keep writing, Esperanza.

Believe it or not, people are not entirely unique. It is certain that no one is truly the same as another person, but it would not be ridiculous to think that everyone does in fact share many similarities. After all, the majority of the population grows and develops opinions or values based on what they see or hear. For Esperanza, the protagonist of Sandra Cisneros’s, The House on Mango Street, the perspective she has is built upon her childhood on Mango Street. This coming-of-age novel illustrates how Esperanza’s experiences on Mango Street play an important role during her period of growth.

You can't imagine how hard people had it during the great the depression? Well, Esperanza couldn't either until she got a taste of the hardship in the book, “Esperanza Rising.” Where young Esperanza went through a lot of personal growth after a series of events. These events lead up to her going from riches to rags. Esperanza’s experiences changed her and flipped her world upside down, in a good way.

She is also one of the strongest women in the plot of the story. This makes Esperanza look up to her mom and make herself want to be a strong woman when she grows up. Esperanza's mom helps influence the way Esperanza wants to live her life in the future. The last of the three most influential characters is Marin.

As a child, Esperanza wants only escape from mango Street. Her dream of independents and "self-definition" also means leaving her family behind without any responsibilities to her family. Throughout the book, her has also faced some situation where is feels ashamed to be part of the Mango Street community and in some instances refuses to admit she has anything to do with mango street. At the beginning of the book near the earlier chapters, Esperanza feels very insecure about herself in general along with the house that she lives in. As mentioned before, she doesn’t want to discuss her name nor where she lives.

Many people are undermined by the drawbacks of belonging to a low socioeconomic status. In The House on Mango Street, Esperanza is raised in a poor, Latino community, causing her to be introduced to poverty at an early age. This introduction of poverty affects Esperanza in many ways, one including that she is unable to find success. Esperanza struggles to achieve success in life because the cycle of poverty restricts her in a position in which she cannot break free from her socioeconomic status.

Esperanza does not realize that by her doing those things, just like Mamacita she is stopping her growth. If Esperanza would have kept with that constant cycle and not accepted her home and what she was

“Isabel, I will tell you about how I used to live. About parties and private school and the beautiful doll my papa bought me, if you will teach me how to pin diapers, how to wash, and…”(p120). This is significant because it proves that Esperanza will do anything to get that job. She doesn’t want to work, but in order to achieve her goals, she has to. And she is willing to do that for her family.

Just by having a positive attitude and trying so hard, already makes Esperanza overcome the obstacle of being out of place in her

Everyone is affected by life’s circumstances. The responses to those experiences can have a positive or negative outcome in one’s future.
