Figurative Language In The Battle Royale

Most Dangerous Game Argumentation Paragraph The story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell is about Sanger Rainsford ends up on an island with General Zaroff, who hunts humans. Rainsford ends up playing General Zaroff’s game and becomes the huntee while Zaroff is the hunter. Zaroff loses the game and gets killed by Rainsford.

The black men did the same job just as hardy, but yet they were put in more danger than the white men. There were many racist comments thrown at the Harlem Hellfighters before, after, and during their fighting. One example of these statements are “the Negro brain just wasn’t “evolved” enough to handle the challenges of combat leadership…” The Harlem Hellfighters really earned their spot in this war. Even though they were getting beaten up every day they continued to try their hardest at every obstacle, they didn’t let the white mens’ comments decrease the amount of work that they did.

During the 1830s, the Great Depression took over America’s brightness and joy, shattering the American spirit. Citizens searched for a light to help people get their lives back together. During this searching, they found Seabiscuit to bring them hope. Seabiscuit is a racing horse that received the right trainer and rider to make him a legend. Seabiscuit’s story is beautifully portrayed in Laura Hillenbrand’s book, Seabiscuit.

In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game,” the author, Richard Connell uses the wonders of figurative language to spice things up in many ways throughout the story. Almost every page had something lying within itself, hidden behind metaphors similes, personification, and the list goes on. Some examples of how Richard Connell uses figurative language were clearly displayed on page 62: “Didn’t you notice that the crew’s nerves were a bit jumpy today?” This page also began to reveal the main feeling/emotion of the story(eerie/suspicious) came to be-which was set off by the example I used above. In this scene, the author uses very descriptive words and/or adjectives in his choice(s) of figurative language when he writes, “There was no breeze.

Tatum uses the conflict theory to look at racism, economic and social inequalities. The power structure of the white dominant society in the United States, does not often recognize white privilege, while others do not believe this is a privilege at all. They believe that the power structure in the United States is one that if you work hard, everyone will have the same opportunity for success. This is an example of how white privilege helps racism to continue to exist. The inability to recognize white privilege helps to creates perception and ideals that racism in our society is a thing of the past.

In the short stories “The Lottery,” by Shirley Jackson and “Harrison Bergeron,” by Kurt Vonnegut, and the theories of enlightenment philosophers, individuals can not change society. Tessie Hutchinson from “The Lottery,” tried to persuade her village that the tradition was wrong, but she faced death. While, Harrison from “Harrison Bergeron,” tried to overthrow society's ideas, through atrocious actions. The philosophers believed that the governors of society should be responsive and secure rights for the people.

The sense of security and love received from family members makes us feel empowered, and can teach us important life lessons that we internalise for our future. The language technique of metaphor is used in “red hot go”, when Anh’s father is telling him how it doesn’t matter if he wins or loses, as long as he tries his hardest, and this shows how when Anh feels as if he belongs, he is more likely to internalise the lessons learnt in that moment of time. Another example of when Anh interiorised his father’s lesson is when his father told him to “keep sailing near the edge of your capacity”, which uses a metaphor to show how the enormity of trying your hardest and operating outside of your comfort zone, which may not be enjoyable, yet it will

Smith says there are no stereotypes of “chicken jokes” in his movie and no more familiar bullets in the hero. Perhaps the most uncommon motive in this movie is “nobody kills the black boy, and nobody kills the black boy and nobody kills the black boy” (Smith, Dinosaurs in the Hood, 32). The repetition of this strong phrase and the poet’s insufficient punctuation creates an energy of passion that speeds up so the reader feels the intensity of the message being portrayed. The House on Mango Street shows women are held back by the inequalities that they face. Cisneros shows that racism prevents individuals from receiving job opportunities which leads to poverty and violence.

The conflict between the two cultures, black and white, the segregation and suppression of the African Americans by the whites are emphasized through various incidents. The fact is that the narrator himself unconsciously gives in to racism and as a black man longs for the approval of the white man. He considers himself superior to the other blacks. But the ‘battle royal’ that he is compelled to participate in finally makes him realize that in the society he lives he is “an invisible man.”
