I believe that this grant money would be best used in a way that can give back to the community. I would much rather invest in a program that can help others, than one that merely helps me grow as a leader. I am very passionate about children’s rights to a safe and nurturing home as they grow up. No child should have to feel alone in the world, yet currently there are over 400,000 children in the United States foster care system. While about a quarter of them are in relatives’ foster homes, roughly seventy percent of them are stuck in strangers’ homes and institutions. A majority of these children feel abandoned and unwanted as they go from home to home awaiting adoption or reunification with their families. Additionally, many of them …show more content…
This would be an organization with the ability to raise even more money for these children until a substantial amount of financial aid is accumulated. This money could be utilized to develop an improved system. Perhaps a database that can effectively pair up orphans with waiting families. In the meantime, this program could develop a better way to match these children to healthy temporary living environments, ensuring that no child is placed in a detrimental home. Of course, this would require a much more thorough analysis of foster care homes than what is currently being used. This lack of meticulosity is often caused by the heavy workload placed upon social workers. Overworked and underpaid, many social workers are driven to quit their jobs, leading to the profession’s turnover rate reaching numbers higher than twenty percent. Assuming that a monetary insufficiency is the impediment keeping the current system from paying their social workers enough for their work and, consequently, from being as thorough as possible in where they place these children, my program will have the substantial funding to back these necessities up. My program will also offer services to children aging out of the system so that they can grow to be successful adults rather than end up in the same damaging environments that they are aging out of. Personal advisors and partnerships with workplaces and colleges can make a significant difference in the life of someone who has no one to turn to for guidance or
Protecting the child and provide an opportunity in which they will live a close to normal life is the goal. But with so many children in foster care and so little workers, children can be over looked. How can a child live in foster care their whole life? “It has been long stated and strongly held belief that foster care must not be a way of life for children, but rather that it is intended as a short-term treatment measure which, for the children’s welfare, must eventuate in their return to their parents or in legal adoption” (Kline,1972,p.51). Children eventually need to be put into long term, permanent homes.
That may seem like a small number, but it adds up quickly. With that many children entering foster care, our services are in higher demand. Unfortunately, we are a small organization. With your support and donations, we could expand our program. Then, we could reach out to more foster children and hopefully touch more lives.
They need to prioritize kinship care and make foster homes a last resort. This will allow children to remain in a comfortable environment. At least in kinship care, they are placed under the care of someone they already know and are comfortable with. This makes their transition
I was adopted as a child so this organization and what they are about speaks very loudly to my soul and my life. I was lucky enough to not have to go through any sort of abuse or neglect from either of my families, but I do know that it is very prevalent in today 's society. I was adopted when I was
Advocates of foster care programs are declaring that the need for foster parents is greatly needed. In New Orleans alone there was a ten percent decrease in foster families. In addition, children needing to find a temporary home has increased. Some obstacles affect the outcome of this system, but not many people would guess that environment changes the situation drastically.
Have you ever thought about how it feels to be ripped out of the only place that you know as home? To get no explanation of why your parents just did not want you anymore? Not a lot of people think about this. Usually, the only people that do think about this is children that are experiencing or have experienced this problem. The children’s rights website stated that, “On any given day, there are nearly 428,000 children in foster care in the United States.”
It will be 5 years this June that I have been in the Foster Care System, I can still remember walking home from school smelling the fresh breeze of air, all the sweaty kids running to their cars waiting to head home from school, or to the ice cream trucks that all had the same foul smell of cheese and takis that followed every breeze that came near. There was a black car, the one time is what we referred them to, this was something that was not out of the ordinary to see around my home. But today was different, two men wearing business suits stepped out of it and went into my home. I stayed back just to get a glimpse of what was going on. I see my mom rush out of the house and into the car, little did I know this would be the last time I would see her as a
There are many children that are stuck in the foster care system because they do not have a biological family or an adoptive
Every year, more than 100,000 children in foster care are available for adoption according to Children’s Action Network. Foster care is a temporary living situation for children whose parents are unable, unwilling, or unfit to care for them. Minors whose need for care has come to the attention, are placed with a state certified caregiver which is arranged through the government or a social service agency. The primary goal of foster care is to reunite children with their parents. With the history and known statistics, this many children entering the system every year, finding the right care becomes increasingly difficult.
With the help of volunteers, teachers and therapists, over 6,900 children were cared for in 2017. Throughout the year, Kids Ability has multiple events to have raise money for the organization. This is a great way for organizations to give back to the community by sponsoring a variety of events. Large firms such as Sun Life Financial, are a sponsor of Kids Ability. Not only is it good for Sun Life Financial to give back to the community but the firm uses it a selling point when talking to potential clients.

When children are taken from their homes at a young age and placed in a foster home they are already create a form of disconnection, yet when taking them from their siblings their familial connections are torn away ten times faster. Siblings provide leadership, care, and challenger in each other's lives, siblings are meant to guide one another and help their family in tough times. When one doesn't have their sister or brother to be their guide, the child may not join the right crowd. Then the serious issue of full disconnection from all relationships. When one is separated from so many things all at once, it is very rare for that child to form a bond, with the adults or the other foster children.
Social work is a career that I have recently become interested in pursuing. I spent many years with misconceptions concerning the sector. However, following three years of working close by these experts, I have picked up a more profound comprehension of the significance of the work. I am especially interested in working in child welfare along with terminally ill children. I have got to a stage in my career where I have started to search out instruction that will make me more efficient in creating plans and providing services for vulnerable people.
My passion for helping and supporting those whose economic and financial standings have hindered their growth in our society, has driven me towards social work. I feel I have exhausted every possible avenue in my current degree field. Pursuing a master’s in Social Work, will give me the diversity that I need, while aiding me in bringing my dreams of working more in depth with clients, by helping assist them with their individual needs and issues to reality. The Social work field also offers versatility which allows me to work in many dimensions, such as clinical, case management, and many other composites which enables me to help every population. Becoming a social worker gives me other benchmarks in which I can use to evaluate programs,
Literature Review Throughout the years, research has been conducted on the effects that foster care can have on children. In the United States alone, there are roughly 670,000 children who have spent time in the foster care system each year (“Foster Care,” 2017). Of those children, approximately 33% of them age out of foster care system. Studies then show that the foster care system has had varying effects on the children who are/have been a part of it. In many cases, studies have noted the effects of attachment for children in foster care.
