Freedom: The Patriots And The Revolutionary War

Chapter 5 “The Revolutionary Era: Crossroads of Freedom,” This chapter focuses on Revolutionary era and the war between Britain and the colonies. It shed light on the lives of the African Americans during the war and the decisions they made to fight with or against the colonies they were enslaved in. The first important topic is about Thomas Peters fight to get his freedom.

Were the Americans Patriots? I think they were, because they came to America for their own freedom. It was wrong of Britain to fight them about it, they were their own people. I think that if Britain had supported them, they would have been on better terms the Patriots would have helped them later on if they had needed it. I think people should be able to do where they want to.

The title of the book reflects the theme of the book. The book focuses on the revolutionaries who played a significant role in the American Revolution. The work brings the combats, the treasons, and the vibrant characters of the individuals that forged the freedom of the United States of America to life. It features revolutionaries such as Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Patrick Henry, and John Adams.

Massachusetts impact to colonial America was thoroughly important. Many events leading up to the American Revolution occurred in Massachusetts; events such as the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. The crown responded to these events by closing Boston ports in 1774. These events fueled colonist’s desire to fight the Crown, and lit the fuze to the American Revolution. Founding Fathers such as John Adams, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and Joseph Warren.

It was two years later after the Boston Tea Party the war began. Parliament passed four Acts collectively known as The Coercive Acts between the two, which made them angry. the Tea Party was a key trigger but not the only one, the war had been long brewing. There were many arguments over religion and government. Here are some other reasons The Revolutionary War started, the British (redcoats) were starting to take over, and the Americans didn 't like it.

American Revolution was a time period where there was a colonial revolt between the Loyalists and Patriots in the Thirteen Colonies, who struggled for human equality and natural right. The ideals for the American Revolution is emphasized in the Declaration of Independence. African Americans were aware of the causes and ideals of the Revolution. Some joined the Loyalists and some join the Patriots to fight in the American Revolution, where they forethought they are fighting for liberty for themselves. In addition, George Washington’s views on slavery is it’s a cruel practice that should be abolished and he felt guilty to be a part of it.

According to “Charters of freedom - A proclamation by the king for suppressing rebellion and sedition, august 23, 1775,” (n.d.), in the spring of year 1775, peaceful demonstrations gave way to violent ones. After outright rejecting the olive branch petition, a decree was issued by the king in response the ensuing violent protests and armed battles in Lexington and Concord (“Charters of freedom - A proclamation by the king for suppressing rebellion and sedition, august 23, 1775,” n.d.). The king declares that the colonies have rebelled against his authority, the decree warns that those responsible for rebellion will face harsh punishment, the same retribution shall be inflicted on any British agent who had failed to communicate any knowledge

There was more to the American Revolution than most Americans are aware of. It was political, violent, and strategic in many aspects. However, there is a larger theme in the American Revolution leading up to, during, and after the revolution, of authority struggle. More specifically, home rule. The colonies eventually adopted the idea that they wanted to secede from Britain, but did they ever think of who would rule among the colonies should they achieve independence?

The beginning of American society truly started on September 3, 1783 when the Treaty of Paris was signed and the British recognized the colonies as a sovereign nation. Through this recognition, the colonies established its own presence in the world, therefore creating a unique society. This further differentiated the newly formed states from the colonies and England. The end of the American Revolution marked the beginning of a new era and not only created the United States of America, but also shaped the newly formed country 's politics, society, and economy.

Gordon S. Wood, “the preeminent historian of the Revolution”, is a well known American historian who has received several awards such as the Pulitzer and Bancroft Prize for his historical books. In his book, The American Revolution: A History, he breaks down the key events based on his experiences and knowledge on the Revolutionary period. Wood was born in Concord, Massachusetts on November 27,1933. Wood teaches at many liberal renowned universities such as Brown, Cambridge, Northwestern , and Harvard. Now being eighty one years old, he recently retired from Brown University and lives in Providence, Rhode Island.

To me, freedom is expensive, rare, and absolutely necessary to America. Freedom can be expensive. During the American Revolutionary War, more than 25,000 American patriots died while in active service. This war also cost 151 million US dollars. The Revolutionary War was fought by citizens hundreds of years ago to grant the many freedoms that we, as Americans, experience today.

The Revolutionary war was not revolutionary because it did not protect some of people’s rights, made lives harder, and left Americans in despair. The Declaration of Independence clearly stated that all men are created equal and unalienable rights (Document 2). This, however, is not shown through the social classes. The Revolutionary War was fought to bring freedom, but that undoubtedly does not show. First and foremost, Abigail Adams wrote “Remember the ladies, and be more generous and favourable to them than your ancestors.

The American Revolution was said to have been almost lost on multiple occasions, however, because of the American’s courage, strength and perseverance they were able to defeat the British and earn their independence. Winning a war isn’t an easy task especially against the greatest army in the world at the time, but because of the unity of the American people or the colonists at the time, because of their courage, strength and perseverance they benefited from it and because of these factors they were able to win the war and claim what they so strongly believed they had the right to. Courageous people have been displayed throughout all of history, and especially in fictional tales and stories told by people. However, this is no tale,

The American Revolution brought independence to slaves, colonists, Native Americans, and women. The Revolutionary War made the United States and France allies go against Great Britain. France made a choice to assist the United States military until they received independence from Great Britain. The Revolution had a huge part in slavery, such as bringing conflict between slavery and liberty because the North prohibited slavery. The South did not believe that slavery should be abolished.

Freedom isn’t something that is just simply given to us, although needless to say, many of us do take these things for granted. I can also say that even I have taken freedom for granted once or twice. We are given the freedom to choose who we marry or even what we wear. In America, we may make ourselves whatever or whoever we like. In America, we can make a place for ourselves in the world, and “put our name in lights”.
